' -J I lilt for farmers and homemakers will be held November 25 to 29. The address of William A. Benitt of Hastings, Minnesota at the gen eral meeting Friday afternoon, No vember 29, must be interesting in deed to match his own background. Graduated from the Minnesota law school, he practiced for a time in New York. Preferring rural life, he and his wife took a year's addi tional training at the Agricultural College in St. Paul. They now have a 200-acre farm, a modern home, and a 1,500-tree commercial apple orchard protected by a 5,000-tree shelter belt. They have a breeding herd of 10 beef cows, fatten feeder cattle, mar ket 50 to 60 fall pigs each year, and have an 1100-hen commercial laying flock. Mr. Bennett will also speak Friday morning before the farm equipment section; and Friday after noon at a joint meeting of the farm equipment and home economics sec tions. Keen interest is also expected in the address of Prof. O. R. Johnson, chairman of agricultural economics at the University of Missouri. Every one interested in the development of local land use planning should make it a point to hear his talk at the gen eral meeting Thursday afternoon, November 2S, on "The Need for Co operative Effort in Land Use Plan ning."" He will also speak at the rural economics meeting that after noon. Dr. Caroline Hedger of Chicago, returning to Nebraska by popular demand, will precede Dr. Benitt in addressing the general meeting Fri day afternoon. And the general ses sion Tuesday will hear Dr. Edvard Hambro, noted Norwegian refugee. At the Nebraska T'.ll of Agricul tural Achievement meeting, Wednes day afternoon, W. B. Banning will honor the memory of "Archibald Loui3 Haecker, Pioneer Dairy Edu cator." The public is invited to these meetings as well as to the various group sessions. Growing Ewes from Feeder Lambs Farmers interested in starting a farm flock of ewes should not over look the possibility of buying ewe feeder lambs from the western ranges. With ample atlas sorgo fod der and a little alfalfa or one of the oil meals lambs can be wintered very cheaply and will be Increasing in weight and fleece as well as value. According to Professor M. A. Alex- nder of the College of Agriculture the wool clip in May will practically pay for the feed and sometimes a ittle more. This makes it possible to have a low cost but good, strong, healthy yearling ewes on the farm in July or the first of August for breeding purposes to produce early spring lambs when it is practically mpossible to buy breeding ewes un til the latter part of September or October. Feeder lambs weighing 0 lbs. now will cost around $5.50 per head. Lamb3 being carried over for breeding purposes as well as older ewes should be given all of the low grade roughage they will eat and if a liberal supply of alfalfa hay is not fed it will take about one-fourth pound of protein supplement such as cottonseed, linseed, or soybean meal. Somo bone meal at the rate of a pound a day for every 35 head is also to be recommended. RECOVERS FROM 270-FOOT FALL ST. LOUIS, Nov. 18 (UP) Jesse William, 15-year-old school boy, was recovering in City hospital today from a 270-foot fall into 90 feet of water in an abandoned quarry. Fire men who raised him, conscious and able to talk, from the quarry bot tom said they did not understand how he survived. Williams told hospital attendants that he managed to hit the water with enough wind left to swim about 50 yards to the shore of a deep pool, where he climbed onto a pile of rub bish and waited for a rope basket to be lowered by firemen. He and a companion had gone to the quarry to hunt pigeons around its edge. THE HEADLINES of an$ newspaper should con vince every car owner oi the necessity for com plete automobile insur ance protection. We are in position to give you that complete protection at a very mod erate cost. Searl 5. Davis OFFlCKSi 2XD FLOOR Platts.
