PLATTSMOUTH SEMI - WEEKLY JOURNAL PAGE FOUR Boy Scouts to Observe Roll Call on November 18 Every Troop with parents are Urged to Assemble During the Week to Hold Program Perry Branch, president, announces that the Cornhusker Council, Boy Scouts of America, will co-operate with the National Boy Scout Emer gency" Trogram. He has requested that all Cubs, Scouts, leaders and their parents assemble during the week of November 1. At this time they will carry out the Roll Call and inventory of the National pro gram. "The Boy Scouts believe that the most important aspect of our nation al defense is the strengthening and invigorating of the democratic in stitutions," said Mr. Branch. To make such a program effective in Nebraska, the Cub Tacks, Scout Troops antl Sea Scout Ships of the Cornhusker Council will assemble in the regular meeting rooms during the week of November IS. They will participate in a patriotic program with special emphasis on the duties' and respects due the flag. They will plan how better to give citizenship service to their homes, their church, their school and their community. Three Roll Call officers represent ing Cornhusker Council will visit each of the 200 troops and 30 Cub Tacks in the Council. These citizens will direct the thinking of the boys and their guests toward what it means to be an American and how Scouts may better serve in their own communities. The Roll Call officers will check on the Tacks, Troops, or Ship and help its leaders develop a vigorous program for the coming months. "We want the people in every community of Nebraska to know that Scouting will be ready for any ser vice to our country," the Council president stated. Here in Tlattsmouth plans are be ing made to conduct this Roll Call among the three troops now in ex istence. These troops are sponsored by the American Legion, the Metho dist church and the Catholic church. Each will assemble at its regular place of meeting during the week for that purpose. Adults who will repre sent the Council will be named thi3 week and given report cards on which to report to the Council their find ings. Parents are also invited to at tend the meetings at which patriotic programs will be rendered. COLUMBIAN SCHOOL OB SERVES AMISTICE DAY The Armistice Day program in the Columbian building was under the leadership of the principal, Miss Margaret Iverson. It was opened with the flag salute and "America." Following a discussion of the mean ing and purpose of Armistice day, two war stories were read, "A Little Soldier of France" by Madge A. "HAM" CHOVANEC Following is a play by play account of the Plattsmouth-Nebraska City game last Friday: First Quarter Maybee kicked off out of bounds on Plattsmouth's 39. Plattsmouth s first play lost a yard before Yelick picked up 4. Noble made 6, and then kicked. Jordan fumbled the kick and Shifter recovered tor Flattsmouth on the Pioneer 27. A 15-yard penalty on Nebraska City placed the ball on the 12. Platts mouth made three, then lost three. Yelick caught Martin's short pass on tne ten ana scorea scunums. Noble made the extra point, and it was Plattsmouth 7, Nebraska City 0 after four minutes, fifteen seconds of play. Against the wind Yelick kicked off 38 yards with a 15-yard return to the 37. Nebraska City lost one, made G yards on two more plays, and kicked out of bounds on Platts mouth's 37. Yelick and Noble made a first down on the 47. Yelick made 2 more but a 5-yard penalty put the ball back on the 4 4. Yelick made 4. before Noble got good blocking and was 'loose to Nebraska City's 21. Martin passed to Yelick on a sleeper play and Jim scored, but the try for point failed. Plattsmouth, 13, Nebraska City 0, after 9 minutes, 15 seconds. Yelick kicked-off out of bounds. and Nebraska City scrimmaged from her own 33. The Pioneers' running attack began to function and Ne braska City on straight power plays brought the ball to Plattsmouth's 37 at the quarter. Plattsmouth 13, Ne braska City 0. Second Quarter On the 37 the attack bogged down and the Pioneers kicked out on the on In five plays Plattsmouth made 23 yards before Noble kicked out on Nebraska City's 32. Three plays netted 9 yards and Nebraska City's kick was downed on the Plattsmouth 37. Noble's 9-yard gain was nullified, and Plattsmouth was penalized 15 yards for holding. Noble made 4 and Yelick picked up 10 more. Two plays netted 1 yard and a 5-yard penalty put the ball back on the 31. Noble's 49-yard kick was returned 14 yards to the Nebraska City 34. Two plays netted 3 yards, before Martin returned a Pioneer quick kick yards to his own 47. Parriott recovered Yelick's fumble after an 8-yard gain. Noble gathered in a lateral and made 11 yards, then plunged for 4 more. Yelick found a nice opening in the line and raced 30 yards over the Nebraska City goal. However, a clipping penalty on the one nullified the score and brought the ball back to the 16 with 15 sec onds to play. A pass was incomplete at the half. Plattsmouth 13, Nebras ka City 0. Third Quarter Nebraska City kicked out of bounds on the 30. From the 35 Plattsmouth lost 7 yards before Ne braska City recovered a Platter fumble on the Plattsmouth 43. A penalty put the ball on the 28. Three runs made 22 yards for the Pioneers before Westfall took a lateral from Jordan and scored standing. The point failed. Plattsmouth 13, Ne braska City G. Nebraska City kicked off to Plattsmouth's 35 with a G-vard re- f urn. From their own 31, Platts mouth put on a sustained drive of 69 yards to a touchdown. Plattsmouth's forward wall was driving hard, and the backs were elusive as rabbits. YeMck finally scored from the 1-yard line. Noble's placement was blocked and Plattsmouth led 19-6. Yelick kicked off 40 yards with a 9-yard return. Wescott were at Pacific Junction Tuesday after noon to participate in the funeral services for Mrs. Charles Abshire, wife of one of the veteran Burling ton switchmen at the Junction and well known here. The services were at the commun ity Methodist church with Rev. RaTph Fager, pastor in charge. Rev. Claude Cooper of Atlantic, Iowa, a former pastor and friend of the fam ily gave the sermon. During the service Mrs. Wescott .save three numbers, "He Holds the Key," "City Four Square" and "It Is Vv'ell With My Soul," Mr. Wescott playing the accompaniment. Mrs. Abshire was a native of Paci fic Junction where she was born on January 16. 18S2 and died there on November 10. 1940. Raynor's of Glenwood had the services. GIVE RAILROAD VALUATIONS From Monday's Daily State Tax Commissioner W. II. Smith today released a break-down showing valuations of all Nebraska railroads by counties. Valuations included Cass county 124.24 miles, Burlington, Missouri Pacific, and Rock Island, $1,995,740. Otoe 96.31 miles. Burlington, Mis souri Pacific $1,170,S75. Richardson 72.21 miles, Burling ton, Missouri Pacific, Rock Island $1,150,939. CAMP FIRE GIRLS Sunowa Camp Fire girls met last week at the library. Mrs. Hilt Mar tin was in charge. We discussed a party that we are planning soon. The group purchased a cupboard and it was installed in the basement during the meeting. Plans to sing at the Masonic Home this month were discussed.
