Rural Mail Carrier Thomas Mason and Fred Miller hunted pheasants in the vicinity of Coleridge Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. John O. Yeiser and children of Omaha were guests at the A. F. Sturm home here Sunday. N Mr. and Mrs. Martin Ross and sons were Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Rough of Weeping Water. Albert Anderson, Feter Spangler and Rev. L. D. Lenker hunted pheas ants near Colburn one day during the past week. Henry Ilild, living northwest of Murray, has completed picking his corn and reports a yield of 55 bush els to the acre. The Busy Workers of the Methodist church met last Wednesday. Hostesses were Mesdames A. F. Sturm and Al bert Anderson. Miss Jane Sheldon, employed in Lincoln, spent the week end at home. Her father, Vilas Sheldon, took her back Monday morning. Miss Ruth Ann Sheldon, attend ing Nebraska University at Lincoln, spent Sunday with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Sheldon. Mr. and Mrs. James M. Dunbar, Sr. and their son, James Dunbar, .Jr. and wife( of Auburn, were Sunday guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. James Palmer. Miss Carolyn Kennedy, Nehawka school music instructor, was in Lin coln Monday night to attend the con cert given by the Lincoln Symphony orchestra. L. R. Benson and wife of Austin. Texas, have been guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Martin Ross, while en route home from an eastern trip. The ladies are sisters. Members of the Woman's club of Nehawka will hold a card party this coming Friday as the first of a series of entertainments for the members during the fall and winter season. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Dodson were supper guests of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Harshman Saturday night. On Sun day they were dinner guests of Mrs. Lenna Dodson, mother of Harold Dod son. j Leo Roddy and wife, living east of Union, were visitors in Nehawka on Monday, coming to consult with Dr. R. R. Anderson. Mr. Roddy has not been in the best of health for some time. Miss Lillian Small, teacher at Wil ber, attended teachers' convention in Lincoln Thursday and Friday and then came to Nehawka to spend the week end with her parents, Rev. and Mrs. A. B. Small. R. II. Chapman, C. C. Trotter and son Robert left Saturday afternoon for Elwood to do some hunting and also visit Mr. Chapman's daughter, Mrs. Carl Pierce and Mr. Pierce. They returned Sunday night. The Misses Edith Bertha Seho maker, Betty Ost and Charlotte Lund berg, all attending school in Lincoln, were spending Sunday at their var ious homes. Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Ost took them back Sunday evening. Mrs. William Van Horn of Nemo, South Dakota. Mrs. M. E. Whipple and Mrs. William Whipple and daughters of Nebraska City were dinner guests Saturday of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Whipple and daughter. Supt. and Mrs. R. E. McConnaha and sons of Harvard were guests of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. B. Stone from Wednesday night until Sunday afternoon. Supt. McConnaha was at tending teachers' convention in Lin coln. Mr. and Mrs. Granville Heebner, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Thiele, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Philpot, Mr. and Mrs. Glen Heneger, Jack Thilpot, Sr., and son Dale, Mr. and Mrs. C. J. (Seal) O10-4T Don Philpot for their pheasant din ner Tuesday night. The men had been hunting at the Philpot ranch near Gandy. Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Stoll, Mr. and Mrn. Elmer Stoll and son, Mr. and Mrs. John Chandler and Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Snavely and son of Elmwood were guests for the day Sunday at the Henry Horstman home in Una- dilla. With the discontinuance of the cream and produce station of Mrs. Lyle Kruger and her departure for Nebraska City to make her home with her son Lawrence, J. A. Lyon3 has come here from Iowa, to operate a station. Sheldon Mitchell returned to Ne hawka last Wednesday night, having been with his father at Amarilla, Texas, the past year. He expects to remain here and again make his home with Mr. and Mrs. Marion Tucker. Miss Lizzie, Frank and Charles Thiele, of Syracuse, were Sunday din ner guests of their brother and his wife, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Thiele. Ac companied by Mr. and Mrs. Thiele, thev called at the Leo Switzer home in the afternoon. Miss Mabel rollard, daughter of the late Dr. rollard, who has been making her home at Ludlow, Ver mont, where she has been connected with a girl's school as instructor, has resigned her position and has been visiting relatives here. The Bluebird club met Wednesday afternoon with Mrs. Lewis Royal. There was a good attendance. Guests were Mrs. John Van Ackern and Miss Bertha of Talmyra, Mis3 Grace Horn of Syracuse and Miss Beatrice Beverage. Refreshments were served. Mr. and Mrs. Martin Ross and Mr. and Mrs. J. II. Steffens went to Crete last Saturday to attend the football game between the Doane college and Hastings college teams, which ended in a tie score, 6 to 6. They also en joyed visiting their daughters, Betty Ross and Maxine Steffens. Mrs. Hallis Akin recently came to Nehawka to visit her mother, Mrs. Elmer Philpot and husband. On her return to her home in California, she was accompanied by the mother, who has not been feeling very well and expects to spend the winter in the mild climate of the west coast. Due to teachers' convention, school was closed for a two day vacation Thursday and Friday of last week. Supt. E. C. Stimbert attended conven tion in Omaha, also the Misses Eliza beth Feemster and Helen Christian sen. Other members of the faculty attended convention in Lincoln. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Jameson and Billy and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Will Jameson of Weeping Water were guests for the week end of Mr. and Mrs. Royce Fish of Central City, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Will Jame son. They also did some pheasant hunting while there and returned with the limit. Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Benson of Uistin, Texas, were over night guests of her sister, Mrs. Martin Ross and family Friday night. They were en route home, having been to Cleveland, Ohio, where Mr. Benson attended an engineer's convention. They also vis ited the Harold Dane family at Iowa City. On Saturday night Donald Wilson and sons Stuart and Roger were over ni-?ht guests of Mr. and Mrs. Martin Ros3. They were en route to their home at Alton. 111., having visited Mr. Wilson's parents at Iloldrege, where they also did some pheasant hunting. Mr. Wilson is a brother-in-law of Mr. and Mrs. Martin Ross. Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Pollard drove to Kansas City Saturday afternoon to spend Sunday with their daugh ter, Mrs. T. J. Pollard, Mr. Pollard and their new grandson, Thomas Julian. E. A. Nutzman attended an execu tive meeting of the American Legion in Lincoln Friday and Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Van Jeffery and children of Imperial were guests of relatives several days last week. They were stopping at the home of Mrs. Jeffery's aunt, Mrs. Lewis Ross and family. On Thursday night the Lewis Ross family and their guests were dinner guests at the Dan Anderson home. The Lewis Ross, Dan Anderson and Van Jeffery family were guests Saturday night of Mr. and Mrs. Al bert Anderson. Mr. and Mrs. Lee Faris of Union entertained at a family dinner Sat urday night honoring her father, C. F. Harris of Union on hi3 75th birth day. Mr. and Mrs. Hall Pollard' and family of Nehawka were among the guests. Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Stoll enter tained their supper pinochle club Saturday night. Those present were Charles and Miss Imo Heebner, Mr. and Mrs. George Dickman, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Murdock, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Stoll and Mr. and Mrs. John Chandler. Mr. and Mrs. Will Ost and Mrs. Albertina Ost took W. G. Ost to Om aha Wednesday evening, where they were guests for a pheasant dinner at the A. C. Anderson home. Later in the evening, W. G. Ost left for his home at Palatine, Illinois. Mr. and Mrs. F. A. Hansen with Mr. and Mrs. Fred Ilild of Murray spent Sunday with the ladies moth er, Mrs. Cecilia Wulf of Avoca. Dr. Munn left for Idaho Monday. Mrs. C. D. St. John accompanied her as far as Brush, Colorado, to visit her husband and daughter, Mrs. Will August, Jr., and family. Mr. and Mrs. George McFadden of Avoca honored her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Silas Munn at dinner Sun day in observance of their 45th wed ding anniversary and also Mr. Mc- Fadden's mother, Mrs. Charles Mc Fadden of Eagle on her birthday. Other guests were Charles McFadden and Mr. and Mrs. Ellis Lacy. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Lemon enter tained Mr. and Mrs. Albert Anderson at lunch Sunday evening. They all attended a show in Nebraska City in the afternoon. Orlah Kuntz celebrated her birth day last Wednesday night by treat ing the girls in her class, the Fresh man class, to a weiner roast and theater party. Guests were Dorothy Sands, Ruth Edwards. Virginia Schwartz and Barbara Gansemer. Mr. and Mrs. Lee Conrad and son and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Short of Omaha were guests Saturday night and Sunday of Mr. Conrad's mother, Mrs. Jack Ilines and Mr. Hines. Gordon Peters of Burwell was a guest last Wednesday and Thursday at the John Hansen home. Ivan Hansen accompanied him home Fri day for several days of visiting and pheasant hunting. Mr. and Mrs. Mark Burton, with Mr. and Mrs. John Stones of Murray were guests for the week end of Mr. and Mrs. George Cooney of McCook, brother of Mrs. Burton. They enjoyed pheasant hunting while there. Mr. and Mrs. Lester Heebner and Mrs. Mabel Lewis and son, George, were Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Lee Creamer. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Balfour and Kent were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Balfour and Kathleen of Union at a pheasant dinner Monday night. Mrs. W. II. Kruger, Miss Clara Marie, Alice and Billy, Mrs. Clara Murdock and Miss Bessie were guests at a pheasant dinner Sunday at the Earl Murdock home near Weeping Water. Vance Balfour of Sidney and his friend, Miss Jeanie Eedson of Lin coln were guest3 Sunday of his par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Balfour. Junior and Norman Lundberg, Kenneth Anderson, Billy Kruger and Jim Sturm were guests of Robert Trotter at a pheasant dinner at his home Tuesday noon. Corn husking in the vicinity of Nehawka is on in full swing. Many of the farmers report a yield of 60 bushels or more to the acre. Many Attend Football Game Those from Nehawka who attend ed the Nebraska-Missouri football game in Lincoln Saturday were: Mr. and Mrs. Vilas Sheldon, Mr. and Mrs. Oren Pollard, Imogene, Doris and Marie Anderson, Mr. and Mrs. John Steffens. McConnaha of Har vard and Neil Pierce of Union, Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Sturm, Margie and Jim, Doris and Norman Lundberg, Mr. and Mrs. George Pollard, Mr. and Mrs. Will Ost, Dr. and Mrs. R. R. Anderson, Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Nutzman and their guest, Dr. Eliza beth Munn, Victor Ross and Bob Wunderlich. Following the game, Mr. and Mrs. Oren Pollard and daughter, Imogene, and poris and Marie Anderson were guests at a pheasant dinner of Mr. and Mrs. James Kitchen of Lincoln. Miss Ruth Ann Sheldon came home with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Sheldon to spend Sunday. Miss Betty Ost, Miss' Edith Bertha Schomaker and Miss Charlotte Lund berg, all attending school in Lincoln, came home with Miss Ost's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Will Ost, 'who also took them back to Lincoln Sunday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Anderson of Omaha, having attended the game with their son, Dr. and Mrs. R. R. Anderson, were dinner guests of Dr. and Mrs. Anderson at their home in Nehawka. Victor Ross was an over night guest of Austin and Robert Moritz in Lincoln Saturday night and he with the Moritz boys were Sunday dinner guests of their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Moritz of Nehawka. Held All Day Meeting The Ladies Aid of the M. E. church held an all day meeting at the church Wednesday, October 30, with a covered dish dinner at noon, IIos- tesses were Mrs. A. F. Sturm, Mrs. Clarence Hansen and Mrs. Albert Anderson. The ladies spent the day making hospital gowns and layettes for the American Red Cross. To Hear Convention Reports The Nehawka Woman's club will meet Friday, November 1st at the home of Miss Imo Heebner. County and state convention reports will be given. The Ways and Means committee of the Woman's club are busy making plans for the card tournament which they sponsor annually. The first ses sion will be held Friday night, No vember 1, and there will be two more, one on November 8 and the last on November 15. Gaines played will be pinochle (junior and senior groups), auction and contract bridge. Single session admission is 25c or 50c for all three. Proceeds will ge for maintenance of the Nehawka library, a very worthy cause. Dr, Elizabeth Munn Guest Here Dr. Elizabeth Munn, niece of Mrs. C. D. St. John and cousin of Mrs. E. A. Nutzman, arrived last Friday and was a guest for several days at the E. A. Nutzman home. She was en route to Idaho, having just complet ed a three year fellowship at the Mayo Brothers clinic at Rochester, Minn. On Saturday, Dr. Munn and Mr. and Mrs. Nutzman were in Lin coln visiting her brother, Wade Munn and attending the football game. Mr. and Mrs. Cornelius Janssen of Syracuse entertained at a Munn fam ily dinner for Dr. Munn on Sunday. Guests from Nehawka were the E. A. Nutzman family, Mrs. C. D. St. John, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Ross, Mr. and Mrs. Silas Munn and Mr. and Mrs. Ellis Lacy, the last four being afternoon guests. Study Club Meets The Let's Study club met with Miss Imo Heebner on Friday, October 25th. The lesson on "Know Nebras ka; It's a Great State" was discuss ed by Mrs. Paul Murdock. Guests at the meeting were Mrs. John Hansen and Miss Frances and Miss Elizabeth Fletcher. Refreshments were served. Hallowe'en Party Marianna Schomaker and Bessie Linder entertained a number of their high school friends at a Hallowe'en party Saturday night at the Schomak er home. Games, refreshments and dancing furnished entertainment for an evening of jolly fun. Won Their Game Nehawka's six-man football squad motored to Underwood school just west of Omaha to play last Wednes day afternoon. The final score was Nehawka 31 and Underwood 13. Supt. Stimbert, Coach Schmadeke and Bob Jameson., drove cars to take the boys. Mrs. Melvin Sturm and Walter J. Wunderlich took car loads of the pep squad. Dr. and Mrs. R. R. Andersen and Oscar Brandt also attended the game. Returns to Home in East Miss Mabel Pollard of New York City left from Omaha Saturday for her home after a two weeks' vaca tion with relatives and friends here. On Friday afternoon a num ber of ladies were guests at an after noon party in her honor at the home of Miss Evelyn Wolph. Hostesses at this event were Miss Wolph, Mrs. George Sheldon, Mrs. Oren Pollard, Mrs. Will Ost, Mrs. Conant Wolph and Mrs. Paul Wolph of Avoca. The afternoon was spent at visiting and musical numbers. Mrs. Harold Dod son and Mrs. E. A. Nutzman each sang and Mrs. II. L. Kuntz and daughter Orlah, also Doris and Marie Anderson played piano duets. The hostesses served refreshments from the dining table centered with yellow chrysanthemums. Mrs. Ruth Pollard served ice cream and Miss Evelyn Wolph poured. On Saturday at noon Miss Pollard, with Miss Wolph and niece, Alice, were guests at a pheasant dinner, of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Olive and family of Weeping Water. Miss Wolph took Miss Pollard to Omaha in the afternoon.
