Entertained at Country Home Sunday evening Mr. and Mrs. Don rid Born entertained at their coun try home west of this city at a very delightful steak supper and followed iy a sleighing party.' The guests were Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Klinger and Gary and Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Robinson and Larry. Entertain at Dinner Sunday evening Judge and Mrs. A. H. Duxhury entertained at a very pleasant dinner party Mr. and Mrs. Fred Lugsch, Mr. and Mrs. E. G. Ofe, and Mr. and Mrs. M. D. Brown. After the 6:30 dinner party the members spent the remainder of the evening in games. cf Colusa, California: Mr. and Mrs. Alex Campbell, Jr., of Plattsmouth; Mr. II. Garringer of Plattsmouth; Miss Alice Campbell and Mr. and Mrs. Pat Campbell and Arvil. A very nice time was had by all. Former Resident Entertains Mrs. Herman Thomas, former Plpttsmouth resident, was hostess at two lovely Valentine luncheons at brr Nebraska City home last week. Friday afternoon she entertained twelve guests and Saturday she had sixteen guests. Card honors Friday went to Mrs. Curtis Brice. first; Mrs. W. L,. Stev enson, second; and Mrs. Walter Arm strong, third. A color motif of red and white was used each day. Quests at Gering Home Misses Mia and Barbara Gering had as their week end house guests, Misses Ruth Quade, Lucille Nielsen and Elsie Meezes, of Omaha. The members of the party remained over Sunday with their hostesses. The ladies are connected with the busi ness concern in Omaha in which the Misses Gering are interested. to enjoy a sleighride. Donald Born and Franklin Wehrbein were the drivers of the sleighs. After the sleighride refreshments of doughnuts and coffee were served by Mrs. Don ald Born. Announce Engagement Mrs. Bessie Dearden of Omaha an nounces the betrothal of her daugh ter, Miss Helen Bernice Dearden to Albert Sedlak, son of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Sedlak of this city. No date has been set for the wedding. The fiance resides in Omaha at the pres ent time where he is employed at the P. F. Petersen Baking company. A picture of the fiancee appeared In Saturday evening's World-Herald. Entertained at Cards At the Petersen home, 424 Granite street, Mrs. J. C. Petersen enter tained a small group of friends at a social evening of cards. The guests comprised four tables, bridge and pinochle being played. Bridge honors went to Mrs. Frank Mullen and Mrs. John Hadraba and the pinochle honors were awarded ta Mrs. John Woest and Mrs. John Alwin. The Ace of Spades prize was won by Mrs. John Wolff. In the serving of the luncheon Mrs. Petersen was assisted by her sister, Miss May Rath, her daughter. Miss Shirley Petersen and by Mrs. Mullen. Entertains for Birthday Mr. and Mrs. Pat Campbell had a birthday dinner at their home Sun day, January 28 in honor of their son, Arvil, age 8 and their grand daughter, Patsy Ann Carr, age 2. A very delicious dinner was served Including two large cakes for the oc casion. Those invited were: Mr. and Mrs. Glen Campbell and son, Robert of Plattsmouth; Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Carr and Patsy Ann of Plattsmouth; Mr. and Mrs. Arley Van Laningham Trom Tuesday' Parly Attend Show at Paramount Accompanying Misses Agnes Ma honey and Dorothy Van Ackren of Omaha, Miss Vivien Moore of this city saw the picture "Gone with the Wind" at the Paramount theater in Omaha last evening at 8. Sleighriding Party Eighteen members of the Junior Woman's club met at Hotel Platts mouth last evening and from there went out to the Donald Born farm Enjoy School Dance One of the January social events at the Plattsmouth high school was the school dance that was given Monday afternoon between 4 and 5:45. The following from "The Scroll," j publication of the Santa Ana, Cali fornia, chapter of the Order of De- j Molay, tells of the advancement of Courtney Chandler, former Platts mouth resident, Mr. Chandler having just been installed as master of Sil ver Cord lodge A. F. & A. M. of Santa Ana. Mr. Chandler resided here in the early twenties and was a charter member of Cass Chapter of the De Molay, being active in that organ ization from its establishment in 1921 until his removal to California. Going to California Mr. Chandler was married to Miss Cleone Meisin- ger. daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Meisinger, who also live at Santa CARS HAVE SMASHUP Trom Wednesday's Dally This morning about 11:30 an auto accident occurred on the Louisville road west of this citv when the cars of Fritz Sehoemann. of Louisville and Guy Heil crashed headon. The road during the heavy snow is a one track road with high snow banks. One of the csrs was coming east and the other headed west, meeting at the crest of a hill. Ed Gess, a passenger in the Sehoemann car was cut on the face and bruised. Others in the car with Mr. Sehoe mann were George Miller and Henry Franke of Cedar Creek. played for the occasion. The attend ance at the dance proved favorable in the eyes of the faculty members. Of special interest and enjoyment to the students present, an amateur radio program was presented with Warren Allbee serving as the master of ceremonies. A microphone was available for this feature. A large number attended the combined business-social meeting. The social meeting consisted of playing bingo and Mrs. Joseph Kvapil received the first honor and Mrs. Charles F. Janda jwas awarded the second honor. As sisted by her daughter-in-law, Mrs. 'John V. Svoboda the hostess served a luncheon shortly after 4 p. m. FUNERAL OF HENRY UTTERBACK Congratulations are being extend ed to Advisor Courtney Chandler upon his installation as Worshipful Master of Silver Cord Lodge No. 505, k. F. & A. M. ' 'Court' was formally inducted into his high office Tuesday evening, December 19. at a public installation ceremony. The regular DeMolay meeting was called off in order that i-hapter members might attend the ceremonies. " 'Court' was born October 15, 1S03, at Falls City. Nebraska. His entire childhood and youth were spent in Nebraska. In 1922, he moved to California. " 'Court' has been an employe of the Standard Oil Co. for the past 15 rears. He is a chemist by occupation. "Married in 1924, his family con sists, besides his wife, of a daughter, , and a son, 7. Chandler was initiated into the Order of DeMolay in 1920, by the sec ond chapter instituted, at Omaha, Nebraska. Made a Mason in Silver Cord Lodge in 192S, Chandler has proceed ed steadily in the lodge offices, and on December 19, was installed as Worshipful Master for 1940. He is also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, serving in 1937 as VVorthy Patron of. Santa Ana Chap ter, i 'Court' has served as a member of the Santa Ana Advisory Council of DeMolay for the past six years. He is secretary of that group and in ad dition is chairman of the important Friday Night Dance Committee, which supervises the weekly dances of the chapter in conjunction with Job's Daughters. No small part of the success of these affairs is due to Court's' untiring efforts and capable direction. Mrs. Chandler reports that with nis . DeMolay. Rev. J. W. Taenzler, pastor of the First Christian church, conducted the religious services. During the service Mrs. Hal Gar nett and David Robinson gave two of the old hymns, "Jesus Lover of My Soul" and "Nearer My God to Thee." with Mrs. O. C. Hudson at the piano.
