The Daughters of Rebekah were hostesses at a card party at the Ne- hawka Auditorium and Avhere a most enjoyable time v.as had. Grover C. Iloback and son, Randall were in Lincoln last Saturday, guests of the oil company "of which they are representatives. and also enjoyed the banquet in the evening. Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Watson who are located at Grand Island where they appear on a radio broadcast were in Belden last Saturday where they attended the funeral of the late W. A. Lewis. Albert Scutter has been painting the home of Goldie Snodfirass and as well the building which he has near the old livery stable which the "ounty is using for the housing of their road machinery. Enno Ahrends was in town last Monday morning looking after some business and said that he had com pleted the sowing of his wheat on the Saturday before and received the benefit of the nice rain last Sunday. The county convention of the Am erican Legion Auxiliary was held Tuesday in Nehawka with represen tatives from all parts of the county. There was much business to come 'lefcre the organization after which they enjoyed a very pleasant social hour. Mrs. Vm. Kruger who has been in delicate health and who was re quired to undergo an operation at mi Omaha hospital has been showing good improvement and after her re turn home has continued to improve. Her many friends are pleased with 'ier improvement. Mr. and Mrs. Albert Anderson who were expecting a visit from the parents of Mrs. Anderson, Mr. and Mrs. C. Steffens, but as it rained Mr. and Mrs. Anderson and their son drove down to Lorton to visit with the parents, where notwith standing the weather all enjoyed a very fine visit. , Mrs. Buff Harmon of Weeping Water and a sister of Mrs. Harmon who lives at Imperial wora visitinp last Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Chapman, coming to visit with Grandmother T. S. Pitt man. They were also accompanied by Marion Pittman and wife, the for--nfr son of Grandmother Pittman on Thursday. . Mrs.: Attie Nutzman of Vvoca was also visiting with Grand nother Pittman. Form.fr Citizen Passes Away. For pome time a former citizen f Nehawka and vicinity, Mr. W. A: Lewis has been ill at his home in Laural, in the northern part of the -tate. Mr. William A. Lewis was orn in Ohio on June 3, 1863 where ''p spent his childhood and came to Nebraska, settling near Nehawka -ome 54 years ago and engaged in "arming. He met and married Miss Roberta Troop, they being married 4pril 19, 1888, living here for a number of years, but some thirty wo years ago went to the northern oart of the state to make their home where they farmed until about ten years ago, when on account of poor health they ceased farming and ;iioved to Laural to make their home. During the past few years Mr. Lewis has been very poorly and last Thurs day at his home in Laural he passed away. The funeral was held last Saturday it the Methodist church at Belden vhich is a short distance from Laural. Some thirty-four years ago Mr. Lewis; became a member of the United Brethren church and remain ed faithful during the remainder of his life. Mr. and Mrs. Lewis cele brated their fiftieth wedding anni versary April 19. 1938. There were born to this couple five daughters and one son, Mrs. . G. Cisney, Nehawka; Mrs. C H. Peck of near Avoca; Mrs. Fern Ar- duser of Coleridge; Mrs. Marie La- thrope of South Dakota; Mrs. Mont - vtrier of near Cedar Creek and Millard Lewis of Craig, Nebraska. holds a meeting once a month at some church in the county. A very nice luncheon was served . at the close of the meeting. Celebrates Second Birthday. Little Barbara Geade, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Geade who make their home at Unadilla, was cele brating her second birthday at the home of her parents last Sunday. There were there for the occasion Mr. and Mis. Lyle Kruger, grandpar- ants, of Nehawka, the family of Law ence Kruger of Nebraska City and Mr., .ind Mrs. Harry Bucholz and family of Syracuse. Make Trip to Sonth. Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Steffens made a trip to the south last week and a portion of this week which included Enid and a number of other cities where they had some business mat ters to look after and where also at some places they visited with 'riends. While they were away Mrs. Albert Anderson was assisting with the work at the store. NEW BOOKS AT THE LIBRARY Plattsmouth Public Librarian Miss Olive Jones is announcing the arrival of two new books, which have been added to the library's pay shelf. These books are now at disposal to the members of this shelf. "Tudor Wench" by Thane is a very readable biography of Elizabeth, Queen of England. The second book is "Microbe Hunters" by De Kruif.
