    ROYAL
BAKING
POWDER
Absolutely Pure
The official Government tests
show Royal Baking Powder to be
an absolutely pure and healthful
grape cream of tartar baking
powder, and care should be taken
to prevent the substitution of any
other brand in its place.
With no other agent can bis
cuit, cake and hot-breads be made
so pure, healthful and delicious.
Royal Baking Powder costs only a fair price per pound,
and is cheaper and better at its price than any other baking
powder in the world. It makes pure, clean, healthful food.

If you just talk to be talking you

No one will appreciate your joke
as much as you will.
A small boy isn't generally consid

Did you ever know of a bore who
was told that he was a bore?
When your feet are tired, you are
pretty apt to be tired all over.
And sometimes a son thinks he
knows just because his father knows.
The only way some men can attract
attention is by getting a tiueer hair

A woman's idea of a great triumph
for her sex is ‘when an old bachelor
gets married.
A comfortable shoe never looks as
proud as it should over such an

This country needs better spellers 1
good deal more than it needs more

It is every married man's opinion
that the hair receiver doesn’t attend
to business as it should.
It may help you to be agreeable
when you remember how well the
clairvoyants make it pay.
It doesn’t take a mechanical genius
to make an instrument of torture out

A man who has had several wives

Although a good many people keep

When a man commences to say he

You may have observed that the
man who says the truth hurts no one,
is apt to lie about other things.

Gorgeous Ceremonies Attended the
Mexico Function.
DIAZ SEEMS IN GOOD HEALTH
This is the First Time in the Nation's
History That a Ministry Has
Been Pledged to
Reform.
Mexico City, Mar. 2!1.—In the roy
ally ornate hall of Ambassadors in
the National Palace, members of the
new cabinet were sworn in at noon
An aisle way was formed by a double
row of high military officers in gorge
ous cermonial uniforms. At one end
stood President Diaz and a subseere
tary. The latter administered the
oath of office.
Escorted by two generals each
minister was ushered into the furthei
end of the military peristyle areway
and advancing, bowed formally three
times, the last Genu Ruction bringing
hirn face to face with the battleshit
prowlike countenance of the presl
dent. At the conclusion of the oath
the ministers would say: ‘‘I protest
that 1 will do my duty” and the
president replied to each, "If you
do the people will approve; if you
do not, the people will oondemn.”
The President Vigorous.
Gen. Diaz, looking not over 60,
spoke in a firm, distinct voice and
gazed fixedly, with impassive face at
eacn minister.
Immediately after tho ceremony
the ministers went to their respective
offices and began their duties.
A noticeable incident was tho pres
ence of the Americans and not a
word or look conveyed any resent
ment or hostility. Extreme polite
ness was evident. The president's
face was entirely free from any
wrinkle of anxiety and appeared ex
actly as potently serene as when
seen a year ago.
Physically ho looked his ability tel
put any three men in the room over
his shoulder.
People Not Excited.
There was no sign of excitement
among the people. All who could
gain admittance to the hall, crowded
in and several hundred stood quietly
iu front of the palace during the
ceremony.
This is the first time in Mexico’s
history of the induction of a cabinet
pledged to radical reforms demanded
by both the peaceful citizens and a
large number of revolters.
Senor Limantour was present but
was not sworn as his resignation had
not been accepted. When he entered
the hall there was a rubbering and
whispering showing his possession ol
the center of the stage. Limantour
has become notable in the American
fashion and shops advertiso Liman
tour cigars,Limantour collars, Liman
tour shirts and Limantour more inti
mate and bashful garments. It is
evident that in his cameo-like head
he earriees either the renassance or
the ruin of Mexico.
Corroboration of Cen. Diaz’s inten
tion to quit as soon as he can do so
without appearing to act under com
pulsion was received from a friend
who quotes the president as saying
to him that as soon as the reform
program is instituted and the objec
tionable governors changed, he will
resign ana go to luuropo.
Evidences of tho administrations
good faith In the promised changes
is found of tho assured truth in
tho rumor that Gov. Ladi of this
province will soon resign and he suc
ceeded by Gen. Fernandes. Tho lat
ter is a pronounced adherent of G«u.
Keyos, which shows to what extremes
tho government is ready to go to sat
Isfy public opinion.
Vice-President Corral is to sail for
Europe on April 12. Paris will soon
bo a center of Mexican dignatarles.
Tho situation is stlil very promis
ing and the volcana wo are sitting
on keeps quite respectably quiet
though it grunts once In a while.
Chiloueo’s New Head Ceosen.
Arkansas City, Kan , Mar. 23.—Ed
gar A. AJlen, supervisor of Indian
schools in Oklahoma, was chosen to
succood John It. Wise as superinten
dent of tho Chilocco Indian school
near here. Mr. Wise was clioson su
perintendent of tho Haskell Indian
school at Lawrence, Kan.

RUSSIA WANTS DIRtCI RtrLi
Is Upon the Point of Addressing to
China an Ultimatum Fixing
a Date.
St. Petersburg, Mar. 25.—Russia is
on tlio point of addressing to China
an ultimatum fixing a dale for entire
satisfaction of her demands.
The Chinese’s replica to Russia's
suocnsslvo notes dealing with tho de
mands, of Russia in Mongolia have
been described by tho Chinese govern
ment as conciliatory, but tho text In
each caso has been unsatisfactory to
Russia, because it has evaded (he

The last Chinese note received by
the Russian government consents to
tho estubHshmeut of a dousuiate at
Kobdo. whereas Russia actually de
manded Its location at Sharasumo, to
which place tho Chinese transferred
the administrative sent of tlie dis
trlct. The Chinese reply also attempts
to limit Russia’s rights in lrude to
articles of foreign origin, whereas the
treaty specifies that Russia's right ex
tends to merchandise of any origin
and coming from any country.
