Mrs. Mattie Hodge moved from her farm last week and is now occupying Mrs. Lydia Hugh’s house Mr and Mrs. Mart Gilbert and son Fred were called to Illinois last week by the serious illness of Mrs. Hu bert's brother, K. Church last Sunday night A large and attentive audience greeted the speaker, Lee MeVey was hurt Saturday while working across the river with Ous Johnson's gang, by being struck in the back of the head with a wagon tongue. He was brought home and his injuries were attended to. C. en tertained the members of the G. A. it. at a dinner Tuesday. Mrs. Roy Edwards and daughter, Lucille,x spent a part of last week in Stella with relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Willard Sliubert left during the week for week for an < x ternled visit til Lincoln. Mr and Mrs. Rraumn are enjoying a visit from their son, who lias made Ids home in Kansas for some time. Tile Nemaha Dramatic Co., played "Away Down East" at this place on Tuesday evening. They were greet ed by a large house The fourth number of the lecture course was given Friday night bv Mrs. English. The audience was well pleased with tile entertainment and the lecturer was greeted by a large house. The Womans Literary dub met Saturday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Plshburn, and a most delightful time was had by all present. The hostess served her guests with dain ty refreshments. Mrs English, who gave a fine lec ture Friday evening at the opera house'. also visited our school and gave a very interesting talk and ren dered some fine music, which ■, was greatly enjoyed by all. Fred Stotts and wife left Monday for Anglin. Wash., where they expect to make their future home. Mr. and Mrs. Stotts have many friends here who regret to lose them, but wish them success in their new home. The W. It C. and <L A. It. lodges held a joint installation on Tuesday evening. A general good supper was served, after which three members were Initiated, then the officers were installed. A company of friends gathered tit the home of John Fink Saturday ev ening to spend a few hours, The evening was pleasantly passed play ing cards and dancing. Ilerwig left Monday for Kansas City, where she visited with friends. Ralph Philpot and wife returned Monday from a few days spent in Lincoln. Mrs. .1, K. Liggett returned Sat urday from a visit with her brother, Fred Cote, in Omaha. Beulah, the daughter of Henry McConnell and wife, is suffering from a severely sprained ankle. Miss Emma Frank and little niece, Iluth Tanner of Lincoln, are guests tit the home of Dr. E. E. Meyers. Elmer Smith returned Sunday from a trill to New Mexico, where he had been looking after land interest. Miss Iva Creed, after a visit with her brother, Ben Creed and family, returned to her home the last of the week. Mrs. W. IS. Alexander and little daughter were up from Dawson the first of the week visiting Dr. Morris and family. Carey Cooper and wife entertained a company of friends Wednesday ev ening. Whist was the amusement of tin1 evening. John Hobbs, who has been sick for several days at. the Central ho tel, was removed Saturday to the county farm. .1. K. Liggett, who recently return ed to this city from Burchard. has accepted a position as cashier of the National bank. Mrs. Ida Wittwer returned from Kansas City Tuesday after spending a few days with her husband. Dr. Ed Wittwer tit that city. Otis Cnkcfer, wife and little son, Linn, returned Monday from Lin coln, where they had been visiting Mrs. Unkefer’s sister, Mrs. Perrin. O. A. Cooper and wife were in Omaha the first of the week attend ing the Millers’ Association, and vis lting friends in Omaha and Council Bluffs. Bernie Cooper came in from Beav er City Tuesday with a car load of horses. He will remain in the city a short time with his brothers, O. A. and William. Mr. Waffles, who has leased the Charles Atwood farm, and came the last of the week to made arrange ments to locate, was joined by his family Monday. Mrs. 11. L. Haekett entertained a company of friends Tuesday afternooi complimentary to Mrs. Veits and dau ghter, Mrs. Winn, who are visiting Frank Butterfield and family. .lack Walsh and son have purchas ed the business of the Farmers & Merchants’ Loan Trust Co., and have opened tin office in the south room of the Kentner building. Workmen were engaged the first of the week in laying a foundation for a residence for Frank Moritz, on his farm adjoining town, which he recent ly purchased of Henry Kuper. Walter Billings and family of A1 liatiee. Neb,, visited 1 lumboldt friends the first of the week. They were en ronte to South Omaha, where they have made arrangements to locate. Frank Hynek, the genial clerk in N. C. Campbell's grocery store, and Miss Ella Hanna of Table Kook went to Falls City Wednesday of last week, and returned as husband and wife. Mrs. John Lichty and Marie of Falls City, Frank Lichty and family and Chester Stump and family all spent Sunday with Guy Lichty and wife. Sophia Brandt of Columbus, Neb., is visiting her many friends here. On Monday evening she was given a sur prise party at Mr. Huebners. A large crowd was present and a fine time is reported.
