Bessie Anderson left Sunday for a two weeks visit with relatives at For est City and Mound City, Mo. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Henderson of Verdon visited with their son, Hr. Robert Henderson and wife at this place last week. Mrs. Cunningham and daughter, Alice, arrived from California the first of the w'eek, from a visit with iclatives. An excursion train was run from At chison, to accomodate those who wished to attend the picnic Friday and Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Ben Zigler are the proud parents of twin boys,who came to make their home with them last Friday afternoon. Mrs. Edna Mullen and child of For est City visited Rulo friends last week. Mrs. Mullen was formerly Miss Euna Wills and resided here a uumber of years ago. Cured Hay Fever and Summer Cold. A. S. Jasper Clark and wife have been visiting in Auburn the past two weeks. C. F. Reavis was up from Falls City looking over his farm this week. Fred Hartman is having a new foundation put under his house this week. Everett Goff of Nemaha is very ill at the home of his brother, Will. J. C. Wileman is very ill with ty phoid fever. E. E. Bolejack and family spent Sunday with Ed Murphy. Rollo Franklin and wife of Daw son are visiting relatives in this vi cinity. Dr. Andrews reports a son at the home of John Gerdes and wife, born August 11. Miss Ella Kuhlman attended the teachers’ institute al Falls City this week. Mrs. Rudolph Fuller was the guest of Mrs. Nellie Peters one day last week. C. H. Martin was in the city last Friday. Mrs. E. A. Thompson and Mrs. J. T. Isabel were up from Falls City on Monday. D. E. Spickler was in Shubert last Saturday. Herbert. HtoKes recently purcnaseu a hay baler and keeps it busy these days. J. S. Spickler returned Monday from Bellvue where he has been at tending camp-meeting. Mr. and Mrs. D. E. Spickler enter tained Guy Lichty and wife Sunday. Joseph Hoover of Shubert was in Barada Sunday. Mrs. Lillian Stephenson of Falls City visited at the Wileman home Monday. Her sister, Miss Buth Oli ver returned home with her. Rev. Roy Bixler conducted servi ces at tlie Christian church Sunday. Miss Gertrude Clark of Mo., is vis iting Misses Ella and Louisa Kuhl tuau. .M. M. Hendricks sold his farm two and one-half miles south of Barada, and then purchased the fine farm of J. S. Spickler, just west of Barada. Mi-. Spickler expects to make his future home in South Dakota. The Misses Kuhlmau entertained at. their home just south of Barada in honor of Miss Gertrude Clark on Friday evening. Gaines and music furnished entertainment for the even ing. Delicious refreshments were served. A very pleasant evening is report ed at the home of Harry Hendricks on Wednesday. All had a jolly time and there was plenty of ice cream and cake. A number of friends were entertain ed at, the home of Mahlon Spickler on Saturday evening. Misses Marie Riggs and Hattie Lil ly, both of Shubert are the teachers employed to teach our shools this year. Remember the ice cream social on Dunn's lawn tomorrow evening, Aug. 21st. Floyd, tHe little son ol Clrich Stal der and wife was taken to St. Joseph Saturday to be operated upon for ap pendicitis, Charles Goddard and wife, ae aceompanied by the mother of the former, returned Sunady from a visit with relatives in Indianola, Iowa. Charles Mann and Lou Marburger started Sunday for South Dakota, the former to look after liis interests in that state and the latter to invest in Dakota land if suited witli the coun try. Bruce Dorian passed a creditable examination in Omaha last week for entering the civil engineering depart ment of the U. S. navy and will leave for San Francisco,where he will com mence his new duties. Sheriff Fenton passed through this city Sunday night having in custody the boys who burglarized Homer Howe’s jewelry store, several week:, ago, the officer and the hoys being enroute t,o Kearney, whore the cul prits were placed in the reform school.
