Jack Brinegar, Robert Nitzsche and William Hunzeker went west. Jack went to Haley, Idaho, where he will visit an uncle and will look over the country in that vicinity. Robert and William went to Seattle to view the exposition and stay if they like it. PRESTON. The weather Is now looking fine for crops this year. Goff Weddle was transacting bus iness in Salem Saturday. Chris Sheely and Mr. Arnold were in Falls City last Friday. Elmer and Garnett Wilson were on our streets Saturday night. Mrs. Tracy Courtright is home visiting her mother this week. Fella Martin of Rulo is visiting her cousin, Myra Bush this week. Elmer Hoselton sold a car load of horses in Falls City last Saturday. Miss Alice Banks who has been on the sick list is rapidly improving. Stella Lippold who had her ankle sprained some time ago is improving. V. m. Zoeller had the misfortune to run a mower guard in his leg last week. Mrs. Powell and her sister, Miss Flint are visiting here a few days this week. Mart Thomas is now visiting in Preston, on his way home to St. Joe from Denver. Mrs. Jennie Aruglii of St. Joseph, Mo., is visiting her brother, Mr. Nor ris *and family. James Sinclair returned Tuesday from a short visit with his mother at Kidderville, Kas. Men from Margraves ranch and also from north of town drove 'hogs to town Monday evening. A large crowd from Preston expect ed to attend the Chautauqua at Falls City Sunday, but the rain interfered so they could not go. OHIO. Will Stevens spent Sunday with John Hutchings. _ Phineas Fisher was the guest of Rev. Zike Monday. Phillip Shouse of Illinois is here visiting his brother John. I Miss Nellie Hikes of St. Joseph is visiting with her grandmother, Mrs. A Ogden. Hollis Stouffer who has been quite sick for some time is able to be out again. Foy French returned to liis work in Edgemont, S. D., Sunday after a week at home. Rev. Hall of Wheaton, 111., conduct ed services on Sunday in the Gospel Union church. Alfred Shrimpton of Iowa is visit ing a week or two with his uncle, G. T. Shrimpton. Tom Gist and family of Falls City were up to Salem Friday visiting S. P. Gist and wife. Mrs. Hannah Vandervort and Hugh Vandervort returned from Wellington, Kansas Thursday. Mrs. M. L. Dowell and Mrs. Tro.us dale and Luella spent Tuesday with relatives in Verdon. Misses Jessie McDermet and Cecil Shec-ly went to Peru Saturday and visited until Monday. H. E. Boyd of Humboldt was in Salem Tuesday visiting his brother, VV. R Boyd and family. A number of Salem people attend ed the Chautauqua at Falls City on Tuesday to hear Mr. Sunday. Mr. Record returned from Sabet ha Saturday. He has been visiting his parents and attending the Chautauqua Mesdames Windle, Rantsma and Sheely were in the country spending the day Thursday with Mrs. 11. Stit zer. Mrs. VV. B. Boyd entertained at fix o’clock dinner Tuesday in honor of relatives who are visiting from Ohio and Missouri. Mr. and Mrs. Will French of Lin coln have been visiting the latter’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jas. French the past week. The big dredge boat No. 37 has started to digging. This is a very big boat and ought to do a large amount of work. Mrs. Ralph Moore -returned to her home in Ainsworth Friday. She has been visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Stewart. Miss Fdna Weddle, who has been visiting her grandmother, Mrs. C. D. Baker for the past two weeks re turned to her home Friday. Mrs. Cora Lippold and son of Falls City were the guests of Mrs. George Fogle Thursday. Oden Saylor returned home from Auburn Friday where lie went to view the wreck on the M. 1’. George Knapp’s new drug store is nearly completed and will be a neat addition to Main street. Cora Fastnau left Sunday afternoon for her home in Nebraska City after a visit to her sister, Mrs. Leefer. It is reported tlmt Ralph Garriss. who is still in tbi' hospital at Omaha is improving slowly at this writing. Mrs. Oden Saylor returned home from Falls City, where she has been visiting her sister, Mrs. John Walker. Miss Laura Helnzelman is enjoy ing a visit with her uncle, George Jorn and family at Norcatur, Kas. Mrs. Bowers and son of Illinois arrived Saturday morning for a visit with the former’s brother and his wife. Bert Waggoner and wife are the proud parents of a ten pound boy that came to gladden their home last week. Harrison Mark and son John were visiting Martin Goolsby and family at Falls City a few days the first of the W'eek. Walter Veach, James Ayers and Charles Weaver and their wives went to Auburn Thursday evening to view the wreck on the M. P. . Mrs. F Stuber and daughter Gert rude returned the first of the week from Falls City where they were *he gue-sts of Mrs. A. G. Wanner. Mike Meliza, wife and daughter. Katherine and Miss Meda Heineman left last week for Los Angeles, Cal., from there they will go to Seattle and take in the Exposition. They wi visit several places of interest before returning home. T. Baldwin is having her house treated to a coat of paint and 1 lias added a fine large porch in front. Mrs. Gertrude Shellenberger Swan is visiting her mother here before1 moving to her new home in Malcolm. Agent Elchert moved into his new , house, in the west part of town last : week. They have a beautiful mod-1 ern cottage. Mrs. Thompson and Miss Jennie I left Tuesday for a three weeks' vis it with John Thompson and family at Parsons, Kas. There will probably be some "big auto stunts” at the Stella picnic, as Harvey Hogrefe is practicing tree climbing with his machine. Mr. and Mrs. Jess Shrimpton and Misses Olive Tilden and Grace Har lan of Salem took supper with G. L. Slocum and wife Saturday evening. Miss Kivu Wagner's maiim planned a party as a surprise, on her birth day, Monday evening. The little ones had a fine time and nice refreshments were served. Mrs. Ona Foster of Kansas City is visiting at the home of her parents Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Moore. Mr. and Mrs. Foster will make their future home in Oklahoma. Mr. and Mrs. R. J. Pritts returned from Davenport Saturday and visited with their son Will and wife until Wednesday when they left for their home in Oklahoma. Mrs. E. W. James entertained the Social circle of the Methodist church, Tuesday afternoon. A very pleasant time was had by all present. Re freshments were served. Mr. Squire of Omaha, state agent for the Mutual Life Insurance Co., of New York, spent Saturday in Stella. He was accompanied by his little dau ghter Katheryn, who spent the day with Byral Baldwin. Miss Vera Brown of Oklahoma ar rived Monday to visit her grandmoth er and other relatives. She was ac companied by her little sister Lola and brother Harry. They will stay until time for school to commence. Mrs. Danahay and little dau ghters of Wellsville, Kas., who have been visiting relatives here left Fri day having received word that her husband, who is a railroad man. had met with an accident with his engine.
