Mr. McCabe of Salem visited here a few days recently. Miss Charlotta Imler is now visit ing friends at Lincoln. J. Arnold of Salem visited his children here this week. George Wixou of Stella made this place a business call Saturday. Jacob Arnold and wife visited with Fred Boatman and family Sunday. Lewis and Charles Schulenberg were business visitors here Tuesday. Mrs. Buckingham of Montana ar rived here Tuesday for a visit with relatives. John Rumbaugh and family of Bar ada visited Henry Leslie and family on Saturday. Miss Gladys Taylor arrived home during the week from a visit with rel atives at Richfield, Nebraska. Misses Dora Fishburn and Donna Albin are now enjoying a visit with relatives at Garnett, Kansas. J. C. Shulenberg returned home on Friday from Haskill, Co., where he purchased quite a strip of land. Lewis Schulenberg and wife of Bar ada were guests of Charles Schulen berg and wife near town on Tuesday. C. A.Lord and family returned home during the week from an extended visit in Michigan, making the return trip in a Reo. Fred Colzlazier and family were entertained at dinner at the home of J. Ritter and wife near Salem one day last week. Verna Taylor of Burchard, Nebr., is in the city visiting his parents. He has spent a part of his time while here looking after and repairing the telephone lines. Miss Ona Martin entertained her Sunday school class at her home near town Wednesday evening which was greatly enjoyed by all present. Re freshments consisting of ice cream, cake and lemonade were served. Friday night quite a number of our young people gathered at the home of Mr. and Mrs. George Brieker to re mind them of their daughter’s birth day. A general good time was had by all. Truman Knisely and sisters spent one day recently with relatives near here. Jake Gibble and family spent a few days recently with P. E. Shaffer and wife. John Lichty and son Frank ship ped a ear load of cattle to Kansas City one day last week. Mrs. Henry Fritz and Emma Last were guests of Mrs. A. Dowty and daughter one day last week. Everett Higgins, wife and two cous ins spent Sunday in Verdon the guests of Taylor Johnson and family. Charles McWain and wife and H. A. Burk and wife spent one day re cently with O. A. Burk and family. Mrs. Edith Yellton of Kansas City is visiting with the families of F. S. Lichty, Guy Lichty, and Chester Stump. F. S. Lichty and wife entertained Chester Stump, H. ,1. Prichard, E. M. Kimmel, Guy Lichty and their fam ilies in honor of Mrs. Yellton Sunday. About seventy-five friends of Miss Mamie Fisher gathered at her home last Saturday night to help celebrate her seventeenth birthday. A good time is reported and refreshments were served. Mrs. Letta French of Kansas City visited relatives in Humboldt this week. Mrs. Winnie Pearl and children left Monday for a visit with Hlawath friends. Mrs, Claud Linn and sons, Claud and Donald,left this week for Denver, Colorado. Mrs. H. E. Boyd went to St. Joe for medical treatment the last the week. Mrs. N. Davis of Lincoln visited at the home of Jim Davis and wife this week. Mrs. 0. Hummel was summoned to Streator, 111., on account of the death of a sister. M. W. Truxon of Riverside, Iowa, is improving his several residences in this city. George Reid left this week for Su perior, where their skating rink has been located. Mrs. S. and B. CoX and children of Lincoln are visiting Dr. Cox and wife in this city. Lewis Edwards of Kalis City came up Monday to visit friends in Hum boldt a short time. Mr. and Mrs. J. K. Ligget of Burch ard spent several days with Hum boldt friends this week. Mrs. J. Curtis of Stella Is this week visiting at the home of her parents, Bishop Arnold and wife. Mrs. Bernie Cooper and daughter, Ruth of Beaver City visited relatives in Humboldt this week. Fay Sanford left the last of the week for a visit with her brother in Vancouver, British Columbia. R. B. McNulty, wife and children of Table Rock are visiting at the home of Walter Leggs* this week. Mrs. L. S. Hackett and son Breese returned Monday from Cotton Wood, Falls, Kansas, where they visited rel atives. Matta Oberly came home Thursday from Belville, Kansas, where she has been visiting her sister, Mrs. Archie Hoagland. Tom Smith left one day last week for Washington, Kas., where he will join his wife and children, who have been visiting at that place. Jean Chartrow, a former Humboldt girl, and George E. Bridgman were married at the home of the bride's parents in Burchard, Thursday even ing, July 8. H. P. Marble, wife and daughter, Zora accompanied by Miss Hazel Wooley of Tecumseli, left the last of the week for a several weeks’ so journ In Colorado. Mr. Heinzelman and wife are en tertaining relatives from Indiana. Frank lirannen and family moved to Falls City the first of the week. Rev. Jones of the Congregational church will leave in September to attend school. H. N. Timmerman has his hard ware store papered and other needed repairing done. The Misses Horn and Miller of Lin coln are the guests of Mr. and Mrs Quinton Stump. Mrs. E. A. Harden left Saturday for Burwell, Neb., to visit her son, Clyde and family. Miss Katie Crouch returned home last week from Oklahoma, where she has been for some time. John Mark and wife returned home from Falls City Sunday, where they visited Mart Goolsby and wife. Clair Coleman and wife and Miss Eunice Cornell and Jennie Stump at tended the party at Reese Williamson last week. The Misses Zentner of Tarkio, Mo., arrived here Tuesday afternoon for a visit with their sister, Mrs. Frank Dietrich and family. Wes Stump has accepted the po sition as (ashier in the Farmers and Merchants bank here. Mr. Stump has been a business man for many Verdon. and will be greatly appre ciated by the stockholders of the bank. Several friends of Joe Williamson planned a surprise for him one even ing last week and reminded him of his twenty-first birthday. The even ing was spent in playing games and the guests departed at a late hour, wishing Joe many happy returns of the day. Frank Mority came down from Council Bluffs, where he has been in the employ of a threshing machine company, and after spending a week with relatives here he left for Fur nas county, where he will operate a threshing outfit.
