Charles Huber is having cement walks laid in front of his house this week. Mi's. Joe McVey and two children of Ha' i loc k are visiting relatives in Rulo. Charles Maze went to Peru the last of the week for a short visit with his friends. Mrs George Taylor returned Mon day from a visit with her daughter in Atchison. Sam Ward went, to Peru Friday evening for a visit with his sister, Miss Hope. Mrs. John Hopkins and children left last week for Creston, Iowa to visit her mother. A cr,owd from Rulo went to St. Joe Sunday to attend the big celebra tion given by the Elks. The Holiness people are having a new concrete walk placed in front of their church this week. Mi Watts, wife and three child ren of Grand Island visited relatives hero and in Kansas this week. Helen Edgecomb returned to her homo in Geneva Tuesday after a visit to her grandparents in this city. Mrs. D. Vanvalkenburg and little granddaughter, returned Sunday from a visit to relatives at Smith Center, Kansas. Re'. Davis, who assisted Rev. Maze in the meetings last, week has gone to his home near Lincoln. At the annual school meeting Mon da.' evening J. A. Hinkle and I). Van valkenburg were elected. Mrs. Herman Kloepfei was taken suddenly ill Monday morning but is some better at this writing. Carrie and Bessie Harrison, who have been in Lincoln for the past six months, returned home Sunday evening. On Thursday of last week at the Catholic church fifty-eight were con firm! I. also a number took their first comm union. In the afternoon a pro gram was given at the school house which cloned the school work of the year A large crowd from Arago took part in the services. NIMS CITY. A baby boy was born to Wiley Mine) and wife last week. Fred Warren preached at the Christian church Sunday evening. Mrs. Anna Bacon left Sunday for . an extended visit with her daughter in Idaho. Mrs. J. G. McGinnis went to Hum boldt Saturday to have some dental work lone. This section was visited by two heavy rains last Sunday, accompan ied by much thunder and lightning. At the school meeting Monday even ing E. J. Duryea was elected moder ator, to fill vacancies, and F. A. Ba con vas re-elected treasurer. Quarterly meeting service was held at the Bethany church last Sunday, conducted by Presiding Elder Smith, who also preached Saturday evening. Tom Amos, with his wife and two youngest children, were here from near Seneca, Kas., the latter part of last week, visiting the Page, and Par ker families. E. J. Duryea went to Humboldt, last Saturday in his touring car. He was accompanied by his daughter, Mrs. Myrtle Bacon, and Miss Gene vieve Nessmaker. Dr. Van Osdel reports a fine new girl born to Mr. and Mrs. Win. Koso, June 25. Jacob Peters and Wilson Waiusley were business callers in Falls City on Tuesday. The Spiekler Bros, delivered a new Maxwell auto to Fred Colglazier in Shubert Shubert. Miss Audrey Wileman went to Falls City Monday to commence tak ing a course in a dressmaking school. The hardest rain of the season fell at Barada Sunday afternoon. About a t.h i •ee inch rainfall in about one hour. .Mr. C. R. Hendricks and George Sailors went to Shickley, Neb., to visit the latter’s daughter, Mrs. Mable Nelson. Messrs. Richard, Edward and Har ry Slagle attended a surprise on their cousin, Ray Slagle, Saturday, near Shubert. Mr. and Mrs. George Krazee and granddaughter, Olive Reddick spent Sunday with York Michaelis and fam ily near Stella. Grandma Thompson, who has been visiting relatives in this vicinity for some time, returned Sunday to her home at Falls City. . Dr. Van Osdel purchased an auto mobile of Omar Sailors last week which will be a great help to him in making his calls. Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Martin and son, Melvin, and Mrs. .1. A. Mr. and Mrs. James Overman of Stella and Mrs. Elizabeth Clark and daughter, Mrs. Ilhoda Collap of Hum boldt and James Stephenson and fam ily spent Sunday down on the river. Evangelist Jacobs preached at the Metohdist church last Thursday and Friday evenings. Mrs. S. R. Freed and Mrs. J. L. Hays were Auburn visitors Friday and Saturday. Mrs. Jennie Griffith spent several days last week at the home of her son, George, in the country. Mrs. Noah Allen and children of Omaha are visiting her parents, Mr. aand Mrs. Norman Smiley. Misses Effie and Maud Sarvis of Norton, Kansas, are visiting their uncle, Dan Sarvis, ami family. Mrs. Ed. Hammond and son. Ralph, of Lincoln visited old Stella friends several days the first of the week. Dan Hinds lias rented Mrs. J. L. Hays’ farm for a year and he and his wife took possession last week. Mrs. Ann lia Nusbaum of Cordon visited at the homes of Mrs. Harris and Mrs, It A. t'iat'k the first of the week. Mrs. Mitchell's sister from Liberal, Kansas, who lias been visiting her for a week, left for her home Tues day. Mrs. John Southerland left for Dakota the first of the week, where site will join her huabond uml they will spend the summer. Mrs. Schick and daughter, Iona, left last Friday for Seattle to visit relatives and also the exposition. They will he gone two months. Word was received here by the Press, Tuesday, that the regiment from Fort Omaha would he here on next Monday and camp for the night. Bert Harris left for his home at North Yakima last Friday. He was accompanied by his sister, Lucile, who will visit Seattle before coming home. Miss Berta Lawson of Kansas City and her little neioe, Albert Maj Hooper, of Atchison, are visiting at the home of their sister and aunt, Mrs, Shirk. Mis. Clias, Sloan and her daughter, Mrs. Temple and baby of Noreateur, Kansas are visiting at the home of he brother, J. M. Goodloe. Miss Florence Nombalias and her cousin. Miss Francis Gilbert, who is visiting her from Johnson, went to Peru last Monday to engage a room so that they could attend school there next year. Mrs. Jacob Hinkle, sr.. and her sister-in-law, Mrs. Robinson, visited in Falls City several days last week at the home of Jess Brown and' wife. Mrs. Robinson then went to her home near Seneca, Has. "Cap" Derstine received a letter a few days ago stating that the ap plication of the (}. A. H. had been placed on file and the first available cannon would be shipped to the I’ost to be used on their plot of ground in the Stella cemetery. The union Sunday School picnic was held in the park June 24th. The day was an ideal one for a picnic. The schools met at the Lutheran church and marched to the grounds where they had prepared tables and seats. Dinner was soon spread and such a variety of good things to eat is rarely ever seen. After dinner the young men played a game of base bull and the little folks drank lemon ade, ate ice-cream and gave a very interesting program. Miss Vernie Leslie is spending the week with relatives and friends at Stella. Mrs. Lizzie Schmidt is spending this week at the home of Joe Lord, southwest of town. Mrs. Harlin returned from St. Joe Thursday, where she has been visit ing her daughter. Miss Helen McCool went to St. Joe Wednesday to spend some time with sister, Mrs. G. C. Curtis. Mrs. George Jennings of Falls City is visiting at the home of her parents J. R. Campbell and wife. Mrs. Marry McLain and children of Denver are visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs, J. R. Campbell, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Schrader and daughter spent Sunday at tIre home t.i Hiram Shildreck and wife. Miss Pearl Seitz visited in Salem Iasi week. From here she went to Peru io visit for a few days. Mr. \V. H. Davis left for North Dakota Tuesday, where he will visit for some time with a brother. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Hillings spent several days in Salem visiting the former's sister, Mrs. Hay John son . Mrs. Pearson, Mrs. Ranger, Mrs. Hamilton and Miss Jessis MeDermet will visit Mrs. Kllza Goolsby in Ver dun Saturday. Mrs. Frank French and children came down from Humboldt last week and will spend some time at her mother's, Mrs. Moe. Miss Anna Fickle, who lives at Jesse Shaw's, went to Rule, Wednes day to visit relatives. She returned to Salem Sunday. Mrs Lulu Patterson of Lincoln re turned to tier home after spending several weeks in Salem, visiting her mother, Mrs. Dingle. Mrs. W. H. Hunt returned to her home in DesMoines, Iowa, Thursday. Her sister, Miss Ada Allen, and-niece. Miss Timmerman, accompanied her home for an extended visit. Miss Carrie Wright, secretary for the drainage board, was called to the bedside of her sister in Ohio. While absent her nephew, Donald Kling of Marion, Ohio, fills her place. Mrs, H. A. Rose left for Portland, Oregon, Tuesday. She will spend some time in the west to improve her health. While there she will vis it our former citizen and wife. Geo. Hansell. Misses Fthel Coon and Anna McConl entertained about forty young people Saturday night at Miss Coon’s home. Games anu various amuse ments were enjoyed until a late hour.
