Wilson s MARKET LETTER From Our Regular Kansas City Stock Yard Correspondent Kansas City Stock Varda, Apri It*. Cattle receipts here last k were IS,(Nai head, niiout the same as in the previous week. Prices advanced slightly first two days of the week, hut the market was draggy thereafter, and the advance was wiped out by the close of the week. Tile run today is lO.Oon head, market steady on steers, strong to steady on butcher stuff. Killers claim they have difficulty in moving the heavy cuts of beef, and reports from Chicago say that buyers were harder to trade with on heavy steers last week than in several mouths. The general talk concerning the market is that the best that may be expected now is a steady market, even with re strieted marketing, and any heavy supply will precipate a had break. An increase in the purchasing power of consumers in the heavily populated districts in the east is the only thing that will brighten up the situation. Top steers here today sold at $6,85 as compared with a top of $6.75 last week, bulk of feed steers $5.50 to $6.15, heif. era $1 to $6,20, cows $6.25 to $5.-10, bulls $•'!. I" to $5.25. calves 50 tn 75c lower than a week ago, $'),7.i to $6.50. Stockers and feeders have been scarce and the market firm, stockers at $1 to So .ill, feeders -SI. 15 t o $5.60. Farmers are too busy putting in crops to figure much on buying stock or feeding cattle. Hog supply i s beginning to show a shortage as compared with April last year, though the de crease is less than It) per cent so far this month. The market broke last week after Tuesday and some country shippers were stung as'a result. Prices were 5 higher Sat urday, and are up 5 to 10c today with a top of $7 25, bulk $0 80 to $7.1.7, practically all the hogs weighing above 200 selling at >0.07 and upwards, and light hogs up to $7.03, Buyers for eastern killers were the most active today and are responsible for half the advance noted, as packers hung back from the start. Outside buyers have taken one-tifth of the total receipts of hogs last 10 days. Hie good dtniaud from Eastern butchers, incident to shortage of hogs in that territory was predict ed by a big packer 2 months ago, Sheep and lambs sold a shade lower last week, but the market is firm today with top lambs again at $>. Bulk of lambs today sold around $7.00, top yearlings $7. In, wethers $0.50, ewes $3, Grass muttons from Texas are beginning to come freely, and sell at So to $3.70, but short horn stock from native territory i s scarce yet. Goats bring $-1 to$1.3o. and brush eating eating goats ate available at $3 to $3.7)0.
