Who wouldn't have a ittle “old wheat in the bin.” In a tew short weeks The Tribune will be buiidimr news items on a linotvpe machine. There is a world of difference between beinjj a gentleman and trying to look lure an aristocrat The saintly thinir about a wo man is how she can adore a man that nobody else can toler ate. If each one would ust do his own little duty toward "clean ing up" wouldn't Kails City be a much nicer town? Mr. Patten, of wheat market fame, must at least be given the credit for giving the cause ofcnrnbread the biggest kind of a boost. If the bad weather this week prevented that clean up you ;n tended, around your place and in the alley, ust bear in mind that it's not too late get busy. As we said before. Mr. Hurst possesses t li e most essential qualifications for the superin tency he's a leader o l t h e youth, they honor him, they re sped him and they'll obe\ him. it is wonderful how exceed ingly poor in this world many 1 people are when the assessor makes his annual call. If you really desire to put a few hun dred out of the assessors reach, invest in a new church- it is a good work and fret from tax a tion. The strength of a child. It is surprising to hnd how few parents know the great strength giving qualities of good oatmeal. Most of them think of it as a food for the sturdy Scotch or the brawny Englishman, and overlook its value as a food for children. Every now and then a mother will take to feed ing her children on Quaker Oats and will be astonished at their improvement in strength and vigor. Of course, she tells her friends, and they prove it for themselves, but every mother in the country should see that her children are strong and vigorous. Plenty of Quaker Oats, eaten often, will do it. Put up in two sizes, the regular pack age and the large family size which is more convenient for those who do not live in town. Don't miss a day; cat Quaker Oats *vcry morning for breakfast. Quaker Philosophy! Said the geo a old Quaker to his bc> Nathan it is not what thee reads that makes thee smart: it is not what thee eats that makes thee fat it is not what thee earns that makes thee rich BUT WHAT THEE SAVES Try one of our Vest Pocket Banks and watch results It will help you save many a dollar. THE Falls City State Bank Capital and Surplus S70 000.00 TWO EXCELLENT LECTURES LECTURES WERE HEARD ATTHE TEACHERS ASSOCIATION Charles Fordyce of the State Uni ve'Sity ane Pres J W Crab tree of Peru Here Tin- addn -s delivered b \ Pres ,1, W. Crabtree, of the Peru State Normal, .it tin teach ers "in ation. ast Saturday, was “t an unusual hiph -tand ar«l ■ excellence. H» took for his s u b ject “School Virtues,” Be o n o m y he said, is one of tin virtues a school teacher should possess and teach her children, and one which is too often neplected. Can ot text books, scrap paper, pern ils and all school property, is a thinp that should be insist ed on, as much foe the training of ti e futun men and women as the 'avinp expense to the dis trict Industry i s another virtue which should receive much at tention, Children should be kept busy and so should the teacher, but the teacher who does the most fussing, is not al \va\s the most industrious. He mentioned honesty as one of the virt tes to which too little at tention is often paid, and in fact dis lonesty encouraged bv some. Such practices .is giving prizes, and having an honor roll for those who have not whispered durmg the day. depending upon tin student to tell whether lie has or not. can only breed dis honesty. The teacher should always be absolutely honest with the pupils. Any attempt at deception in any wav. ruins the teacher’s influence for good. The address was overflowing with snch helpful suggestions. Pres. Crabtree is one of the most able school men in the state and for the teachers of K chardson county to have an opportunity of hearing a nd meeting him again, was a rare treat. .''lull <i( tlie enthusiastic in -erest in the inerting Saturday was due to his presence. Mr. and Mr-. Crabtree were the guests of |)r. and Mrs. Wil son. while in our city. Hr. Wil son being a brother of Mrs. Crabtree. T h e y returned to I’eru Monday, Mr. Charles Kordyce of the State I'niversity. delivered an address before the teachers as sociation Saturday afternoon, on “Tilt Irrepressible Hoy and his Teacher," that should have been heard by every parent and teacher in the county. He said in part, that at all times tin* “bottled up’’ energy was finding means of escape through our bodies. That tlie greatest possible per cent the brain can use is three, while the muscles use twentv five and that it is wicked and unjust to xpect tile children to sit for any length of time quietly — tudy ing. The \ icious bad boy is very scarce, but the American boy, lull of < nergy bubbling over, is plentiful everywhere. This en ergy when used in tin right way m a k e - genius, i f properly trained skill, and if neglected or stamped o u t. criminals. The laws of the gang" are rules made by the crowd for ac Con. If those rules be broken the culprit is the oik who is laughed to scorn by the others. The familiar expression “the [fellows will laugh at im lias led many well meaning boys in to trouble. These laws are things the children cannot escape and an outsider cannot reach. The on lv way to guide them in the right paths is to be one of the “gang." Make them feel you are interested in them and their ! friends, and you cannot deceive them, you must be interested. The appetite of the growings lad is almost his master The boy who steals a watermelon or enters an orchard, does it be 1 cause he is I nyrv and nut be cause he !s a thief at heart The child w il naturally dc veiop alone me animal n<— more quickly than others, as shown from is tayerm>> to wrestle, to 'i e and yet into the dirt. This instinct mtist be trained into usefulness, ids animal way of eatiny trained to yood table manners. His reyard for the laws of the “yany" trained into a reyard for the laws of society and his muscles be trained to skillful work or he is turned out from the home and the school a finished product on the markets of the busy world of business. Vv Resolutions of Sympathy Whereas our Heavenly Father hath called to rest the husband of our beloved s ster, Radical McDowell, we in the name of the Relief Corps, Extend to the sorrowiny wife a n d children our tenderest sympathy a n d pray God, that He. in His infi nite wisdom will bless and com fort them as He alone can do.
