Fred Boatman and wife entertained out of town friends at their home dur ing the week. * John Evans and wife and Guy Hut hings and wife visited relatives in the county seat Sunday. W. J. Hanley and wife of Lincoln after spending some time here with relatives returned home the latter part of the week. Saturday afternoon the ladies of the ftl. E. church had a flower sale and in he evening served supper. A neat sum was realized, I. M. Hupard and family left Sunday or Boise City, Idaho, where they ex nect to make their future home. They uave a host of friends here who wish Tor them great success in their new borne. The Literary Club met at Taylors ball Friday evening with Mrs. Taylor as hostess. The room was beautifully decorated in club eolers. white and preen. The husbands of the ladies, all of the members being married, were guests of honor and royally entertain ed. Refreshments were served and games of various kinds were engaged in until a late hour when all departed or thi ir different homes. The ladies of the Christian church gave a 16c tea in Parsons hail Thurs day evening. A large crowd was in attendance and a good t’me was bad by all. Dr. Philipps and and family left last •vaek for Meeteetsie,Wyo., wuere they vill make their future home They will be missed by a large circle of 'riends here who wish them success in their new home. Herman Fisher had an exciting ac cident last Saturday. His team be tame frightened at the train and ran away throwing him out of the buggy. Zimmerman, Leo Wintz, Mr. Grumps and J Michel- were in Pre ton Saturday. Jacob Solrner who has been visiting Mr. Grumps has permanently located at Coffeeville, Kan. Mr. Grumps is building an addition to his cottage and also adding anew porch among other improvements. Tom CrolUers has been suffering this week from a dislocated shoulder sus tained while unloading hay, but is now recovering. Mr. Grumps and wife entertained a party of friends at flinch Tuesday eve ning. Mr. Grumpe and Mrs. Croter carried off the honors of the evening while Mrs. Grumps sustained defeat. Refreshments were served and the evening enjoyable spent as was shown by the late hour when the guests de parted for their homes. Mr. Brim of Sabetha, Ivan., spent a few days here recently with fcis daugh ter Mrs. Knisely. E. C. Peck and family, C. E. Peck and family,Sadie Peck and Lloyd Peck and family all from Kansas were here last week to attend the funeral of Grandpa Peek. Quite a severe storm struck through this vicinity Sunday night demolishing buildings, windmills, uprooting trees and breaking over quite large trees. The telephone lines are torn down. Almost all the line running north of Falls City is down the post? being broken down and lying on the public road. Rut so far we have not heard of any one being killed or hurt, but some had some very narrow escapes. NIMS CITY Frank Nims and wife were county seat visitors Saturday. Haushahn brothers are farming the Hosford place this year. Charles Gentry and wife went to Sabetha, Kan., Saturday. Sopia Wittwer was a guest of her brother Hiram and wife last week. Tom Koades is prouoinced out of danger if nothing else sets in. Mrs. Uaeon and Miss Genevieve Messmaker drove to Sabetha Saturday. The Christian church near here is being pupered this week by the mem bers. Mrs. Fairbanks and son James made a trip to Humboldt last T1 ursday in the latter s touring oar. On account of the ,-torm Sunday night a number of our young men did not get home until morning. F. G. Tritts, Oneonta. N. Mark F’hilpot is suffering from a broken collar bone received while at play. Mrs. Hlavaty went to Lincoln Satur day to complete arrangements for mov ing here. Mrs. Saulak entertained the Royal Neighbor lodge at her home Thursday afternoon. Claud Fergu- consigned a ear of hogs to St. Joe Friday. The stock topped the market $7.17 L Rev. Cantrall went to Hebron Mon day to attend a meeting of the Ne braska City Presbytery. Percy Glasser returned recently from British Columbia where he has been spending several months. Lydia Schwan returned Thursday from St. Joe where she underwent an operation for appendicitis. A.A.Tanner was down from Lincoln recently on business, and his children who had been visiting here accompan ied him home. The farm residence of George Smith east of town was destroyed by lire Sun day. A defective Hue is supposed to have been the cause. Jesse Goodale and wife of Burcburd are the parents of a daughter born to them on Wednesday. The mother was Lida Crawford formerly a deputy postmistress here. Cora Drakes bus returned from St, Joe, where she had been in attendance at the commencement exercises at the nurses training school, from which she received a diploma last spring. Harry Pennington and Maggie Wan row were married in Lincoln Wednes day returning to this place Friday, They will make their home in Osceola where the groom is employed as a meat cutter. The following teachers have been elected to positions in the city school for the ensuing year: several vacancies still remaining to be tilled: R L. Orange Mount and family have re turned to Barada and ha will e em ployed at the Forest Hill fruit farm for the season. The eundy was home made and all sold readily. Last Thursday being Mrs. Hermun Boabma- birthday, a number of her neighbors brought h nice rocking eiiHir and came to spend the i vening with her in an informal way. All report a good time. A large number of gypsies camped north of town Saturday. Two wi ri dings were soleminzed Sunday noon, unJ they held a days celebration. All day Sunday was spent in feasting, which was shared by all visitors who cared to partake. On last Thursday evening Miss Grace Cronin was hostess at a miscella neous shower given in honor Mi-- Mag gie Malian whose marriage to Will Story is announced for Wednesday, April 21st. The evening was spent in nleasant games, dainty refreshments were served and it was quite a late hour when the merry party broke up.
