Mrs. Wm. Doty of South Oma
ha came down Monday for a
weeks visit with her parents, J.

Mrs. Bruno Hanson, who has
been visiting at the home of W.
H. Kerr for some time returned
home the latter part of the week.
Prof. J. Carl Leister was up
town Wednesday for the first
time in several days. He has
been suffering from a severe at
tack of the grip.
D. D.Ravis was called to Salem
Saturday to assist Roe Moore in
some undertaking work. Mr.
Reavis has made several trips of
like nature since January 1
Mr. and Mrs. O. Radinsky re
turned to their home in Sterling
the latter part of the week after
spending a few days with their
daughter, Mrs. James Pickett.
Another trouble at the present
stage of the game is that there
are too many self appointed col
onels standing around waiting for
the people to furnish them a regi
ment to command.
Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Prior
spent a short time visiting in Ne
braska City, returning home the
first of this week. They report
several cases of diphtheria in that
city.
Mrs. John Babb and two chil
dren spent a few days in the city
with her parents, Mr. and Mrs.
George Albright. Mr. Babb is
moving from Humboldt to Stella,
which place will be their future
home.
St. Joe has just completed a
fine new jail at the expense of
$100,000. Richardson county
could do well to follow in St Joe's
footsteps and build them a jail.
There should be a modern padded
cell placed in all jails for the in
sane. This is something needed
for the suffering humanity.

A. I). Gise, wife and little girl
took their departure this week for
Salt Lake City where they will
make their future home. Mr.
Gise is well known to many of
our readers as he was a Verdon
merchant and at different poiuts
in Southeastern Nebraska he has
been engaged in the grain and
implement business. He will
have charge of a branch house
for the Moline Plow Co., at Salt
Lake.
Frank Harrison, editor of the
Nebraska Capital was in our city
Saturday. Mr. Harrison has his
paper and work in such a shape
as to be able to accomplish many
things for the republican party
and especially during this session
of the legislature. While in the
city he was the guest at the home
of George A- Abbott.
C. B. Moore and G D. Jenkins
came down from Peru the past
week to call on Jesse Harris, who
was injured in a runaway here a
short time ago. He is getting
along nicely at this writing, and
as soon as possible he will be
taken from P. S. Heacock’s to his
home near Shubert.
Charles Wilson, who is a travel
ing veterinary with headquarters
at Omaha, arrived in this city
Tuesday night to visit his brother,
Wm. Wilson. Charley for a num
ber of years made this city his
home and is well acquainted with
many of our people.

Me La tie of Kansas City for a very
liberal check to be applied on
subscription. She expresses a
great comtort in reading the Tri
bune and so has paid for it in ad
vance.
The Christian people have hir
ed a pastor who will take up the
labor in his new field next Sun
day- He is Rev. Dav of Nelson,
Neb., and comes to this place
highly recommended.
A. Graham went to Crete Fri
day where he was called to attend
the funeral of his oldest sister.
The deceased is the oldest and
Mr. Graham the youngest of the
family.
Miss Lois Spencer returned
home today after attending a
library meeting in Lincoln. She
also spent a short time with her
brother Guy and family at Oma
ha.
II. Clay Yutzy, wife and two
children left Tuesday for their
home in Minneapolis, Minn.,after
a visit to the iormer's father,J. C.

Rev. C. M. Strong will fill the
pulpit at the Baptist church Sun
day morning and evening during
the absence of Rev G-F. Reichel
Mrs. Hayden Prater came up
from St Joe Sunday to visit rela
tives a few days before going to
her new home at Hutchison, Ks.
J. S. Brannum left Friday for
Armour, Neb., where he will
visit his son, Harve and family, a

Mrs. Elliott left yesterday for
Oneida, Kans., where she will
spend two weeks visiting her
mother.
Mrs- Lucinda Smith called at
this office Saturday and advanced
her subscription one year.
Jennie Prater and Edna and
Tom Murphy attended a dance at
Preston Friday night.

this city to his farm near Rulo

he will remain permanently. He
is employed as a scenic painter
at the Burwood theater.
Mrs. Dennis McCarty spent
most of the week in Rulo, where
she is helping care for her lather

Supt. L. B. Lvrnan of the Bur
lington of Sterling, Colo-, with
headquarters at Wymore was in
this city during the past week.
Mrs. Jno. Crook and little
daughter returned Saturday from
Marysville, Mo,, where she was
called by the serious illness of an
uncle.
Clarence Smith and wife left
Tuesday for California where
they will spend some time with
the former's sister, Mrs. Will
Wherry.
Miss Lillie Moran returned to
her home in Belleville, Kansas,
this week after spending a few
days with relatives in and near
this city.
A. B- Pirie of Wytnore was in
the city during the week. He is
master mechanic of the Burling
ton railroad. From here he went
to Nebraska City.
Ernest Vincent came in from
Denver, Monday to help care for
his wife who is in the city <|uite
ill at the home of her parents, W.
L. Sears and wile.
Mrs. Minnick is in Atchison
where she will spend several
weeks with her son Herman and
wife. Before returning home she
will visit her sister in Hiawatha.
On Friday morning G. J. Crook
called at this offie and renewed
subscriptions for Mrs. Belle
Weaver at Eos Angeles, Cali., W.
K. Crook, Paonia, Colo., Jesse M.
and Z. E. Crook of Denver
Some of the people in Crook A
Towle’s addition were missing
wood from tneir wood pile and
decided to load a few sticks on
the top of the pile with powder.
The result was a stove was blown
up in the neighborhood and it
was necessary to remove it to the
junk shop. We did not learn
either the name of the owner of
the wood or the borrower. But
in weather like this we could sym
pathize with the man who is

Charles McWain and wife are
in Rnlo for a short time at the
home of the former’s mother.
Their baby has been very sick
since they left their home in this
city.
W. R. Cade returned this week
to his home at Osburn,'Kansas.
He spent several days in this city
being called here by the sickness
and death of his father,
George Cade returned the last
of the week to his home in Os
born, Kansas. He was called
here a week ago to attend the
funeral of his father.
The cold wave has awakened
the people to the fact that Jack
Frost is king these days if lie did
let Old Sol have a little extra
time before.
Mrs. A. R. Dittmar left Satur
day for New York City where she
will visit relatives. She will re
turn to her home in this city
about March 1.
Babies are lots of trouble when
they are little and young, but the

working for the Gilligan Bridge

Iowa has returned to his home in
this city.
