Dr. Lewis of Welch, La, who bed been visiting friends here departed Thursday for It is southern home. Mrs. Myrtle McCallum of Beatrice arrived here Sunday for a brief visit, returning home Sunday accompanied by her mother Mrs. Sutton. Herb Mooney arrived in the city the paste week from Hiawatha, Ks, and has accepted a place in Fisher’s barber shop. He will move his family here in the near future. L. J. Segrist and family are now domiciled in their line new residence property. Harry Bowers and family will occupy the cottage vacated by Mr. Segrisy?. Claud Filson who had been in the city renewing acquaintances with his boyhood associates lias returned to his home in Seattle. Wash., where he holds the position of city water com missioner. John Lampe, one of the progressive young stockmen of this section, won first prize in the St. Joe stock show last week on one of h:s Aberdeen An gus cattle. W. E. Veits ami wife and daughter Mrs. Jesse Winn, having been in Hum boldt visiting friends the past week. The family have recently moved from Nebraska City to a ranch near Grant, Neb. A young son of John Gerdes, resid ing north of town was seriously injur ed one day the past week by being run over by a wagon load of cement one of the wheels partially passing over the boys chest, breaking several ribs and badly brusing bis body. L Hartman and a very pleasant so cial evening was spent. Rev. Teeter of Falls City,prohibition candidate for governor will lecture at the Bethel on Friday evening in the in terest of the temperance cause. Otis Spiekler had as an honored guest on Thursday Hon E J Burkett in malting the trip to Auburn from Falls City by auto after Mr. Burkett’s speech at the latter place. Fulton I’eters went to Rosalie, Neb; last week to visit his children who live there and from there he goes to South Dakota to take up land at the opening of the new reservation. On last Saturday evening a gather ing of many friends at the home of Mrs. Emma Kuhlman In honor of her birth, day tended to make a regular holiday celebration. As a surprise w, was a success entirely. All report a splen did time. On Wednesday of last week the many friends of Otis Spiekler gather ed at his home to spend a merry even ing. The purpose of the party was to surprise Otis, but he seemed very much prepared aud at his ease. A delightful evening's entertainment was enjoyed by all. Nice refreshments were serveu. Last Wednesday evening the teach ers of the Barada schools and adjoin ing districts together with the pupils of the high school met and organized a reuding circle to meet every Tuesday evening. Jesse Cox was elected presi dent and Alice Yoder secretary. The study will follow the course laid down for Nebraska 'eacbers. Esther Young is visiting her sister in-law, Mrs. Caroline young the past week. The ladies of the Methodist church are going to feed the hungry on elect ion night. The Happy Whist club has again enjoyed a pleasant evening in the bank office. M. L. Ldehliterof Auburn is visiting her daughter. Mrs. Bessie Haskett this week. Miss Katherine Mourer will attend the Midland College of Atchison. She will take music. J. O. Hopper sold his farm to E. E. James of Falls City. Mr. James was in this city Tuesday. Mrs. F. G. Wixon of this place went to Horton, Wednesday to attend the wedding ot a cousin. J. M. Goodloe and family and M. Anderson made a trip to Falls City Wednesday morning. M. W. Knapp of Nemaha City was visiting his son, E. F. Knapp here Wednesday afternoon. Gene Cain, of Falls City was a visitor with Mr. Fuller and his auto party Wednesday evening. Hen and Dorn Atwood went to Oma ha, Friday to consult a specialist in regard to the formers health. Rev. E. H. Gould was again chosen by the conference to have charge of the. Methodist church for another year. Chas. Pearson, who has been work ing in the west for the past few years returned to Stella to spend the winter. Pearl Cunningham is taking a course in the Ensworth hospital at St. Joe. She is studying to be a trained nurse. The Research club met with M. L. Hays and wife Friday and a large number of members and friends were present. Mrs. Arabell McCullough received a nice box of pears from tier daughter, Mrs. J. M. Messier of Caldwell, Idaho, the (>ast week. Mr. Phipps of Iowa was again at this place visiting his daughter, Mrs. J. E. Winfrey. He returned to his home the last of the week. Elmer Re'mers left Thursday for Atchison to spend a few days. From there he went to Wichita, Kas., to spend a few weeks with relatives. Dora Atwood of near Humboldt, while working oyer his threshing machine Thursday morning, fell and in some manner nearly tore the lingers off of one hand. He had the hand dressed and is getting along nicely. Hill accompanied by his daughter Edith made a business trip to Falls City recently. Johu Speece of Ord, Neb, is here looking after his farm interests also enjoying a visit with relatives. Judd Parsons has purchased a new touring car, having made their first trip with their family on Tuesday. Mrs Quiggle who has been absent tor several years arrived here from New York for a visit with relatives and friends. Chas. Shuienberg had charge of the Burlington Cafe during the absence of his father in St. Joe. Chas. reports having a splendid tr&de. Mrs Walker arrived here from Ohio during the week. She expects to visit with her daughter Mrs Wm Albin and fartrily here for some time. Mrs. G. Ralderman of Pike county. Ohio, arrived here during the week for a visit with her brothers Henry and Win. Albin and families living near town. Allred Kiuton and Miss Mamie Hall went to Fails City Tuesday where they were married This couple has a host of friends here who extend congratula tions. John Shook returned to his borne at Epworth Monday after a pleasant visit with relatives here. He was accom panied by Mr. Thompson of Falls City and John Whittle who expect to look up a location. In an impressive man ner Rev. Bennet Maze spoke ti c words which united them for life. After congratulations all repaired to the dining room where a three course luncheon was served. The bride wore a white princess empire and carried a boquet of white roses and ferns She is well known having spent most of her life here. She was one one of Rich ardson county’s successful teachers. The groom wore the conventional black. He made this place bis home for the past three years, and in that time made many warm friends. The happy couple will make their home in Wymore. With showers of rice and good wishes the young couple left for St. Joe, Atchison, Kansas City and Omaha. Only the relatives and inti mate friends were present. Tho»e present from out of town were Will Carico and wife, John C'arico and wife and Fred Deitrich and wife all of Fulls City. Harry Bradford and wife spent a short time between trains Sunday with relatives here. They were on their way to visit relatives in Nebraska City. Mac Anderson, foreman of the depot gang, was called to his home in Ash land last week by the serious sickness of his little daughter. OHIO. John Hutchison spent last week in Omaha. Frank Houtz and wife and Frank Zorn and family spent Sunday with Everett Higging and wife. Edith Peck and Nellie Knisley re turned from Waterloo, Iowa, Friday after spending the summer there. A surprise party was given at Frank Schulenberg’s Tuesday evening. The surprise was for Mr. and Mrs. Schulcn berg. Refreshments wer e served and all had a nice. time. FRANKLIN Edith McNeely is on the sick list. Harry Hanna returned to his home in Table Rock. Less Elmore attended the dance at Humboldt, Monday night. Mr. Geesrnan’s visited at the borne of Mr. Gossmau. Sunday. John Church and Gilbert Dodds were Falls City visitors Thursday evening. One of Mr. Hardings mules was cut on the disc, Monday. The veternary was called and the wound was soon dressed. C. C. Pollard sold at public sale. Tuesday all his property except a few cows and household goods. He in tends to leave here in the spring.
