Barada is quite proud of the fact that her townsman Otis Spickler, made good in the auto race at Stella, making the five mile run in a tritle over eleven minutes. A. C. Harbaugh of Dawson had three car loads ot toppy steers on the St. Joe market Monday. He says lie will still remain ill the cattle feeding business next winter, despite the fact that coru will be a little high. He has 250 steers on hand which he will soon put on feed. He has on his ranch about 600 hogs and is well ilxed all around. Recently Mr. Harbaugh bought of his neighbors about 5,000 bushel of corn at 60c per bushel, “I was greatly surprised when I commenced to look about for some corn for immediate use,’’ said Mr. Harbaugh. “I sup posed there was very little corn left in the country, but to my gredt surprise I found that thous ands of bushels of corn are lay ing around in the hands ol the farmers. When the new corn comes in a great deal of it will be held for higher prices and in that way we may see corn sell ing cheaper next spring than now.’’ Carmichael Causes Disturbance On Monday evening Mrs. Koeh ler was disturbed at her home in the southwest part of this city by a man trying to enter her house. She called her neigh bor, John Wiltse, who sent for the police and when Officer Cam blin arrived he found Joe Car michael to be the man who was causing the disturbance. He was intoxicated at the time and was arrested and on Tuesday morning was fined $9.80in police court. John Richardson, a former Richardson county' man, was struck by lightning at his home at Long Island, Kans., almost a week ago, and it was at that time thought he would recover, but grew worse and died Wed nesday morning. He was a son in-law of Stephen Prior of this city. Mrs. Prior left Tuesday for that place. Badly Burned Tuesday while Mrs. Hayden Bowers of near Verdon was can ning fruit a can tilled with hot fruit exploded and in some man ner she overturned the can of sealing wax and the hot wax poured out over her arm. The doctor was called and dressed her arm. She is resting nicely but has a badly burned arm. Carl Leister on Mon day opened school at the Busi ness College with a good enroll ment. His pupils have started with the right spirit and we are sure with a leader with the abil ity that Prof. Leister possesses they are sure to accomplish much during the school year. He is making penmanship one of the strong features of his school and surely a good hand writing should be the pride of every young person. He will begin Jiis night school in about two weeks and at pres ent the outlook is ver}' promis ing. When fall work on the farm is over the attendance will be ma terially increased. At this school pupils may enter at any time, a fact that is greatly appreciated by young people who are too busy on the farm to enter at the opening of school.
