James Morris came down from Stella Friday and spent a short time with old friends here. Miss Clara Tanner left Satur day on her western trip. She ex pects to be absent about a month. Miss Margaret Coupe of Effing ham, Kans.. arrived in the city Saturday tor a visit with relatives. Lillian Oswald returned Sun day from her visit in Buffalo, Wyo. She reports a splendid time. Larry Dore, formerly of this city and having many friends here, is quite ill at his home in Omaha. Nell Snyder left Tuesday for Bozeman, Mont., where she will spend some time visiting with friends. John Hossack and daughter, Nellie, returned home Saturday from a few days visit with friends in Rulo. Miss InezNGriffiths came down from Verdon the latter part of the week to visit with her sister, Mrs. D. M. Davies. Mrs. Riley Shafer is in Hot Springs, Ark., trying the curative powers of the water of that great health resort. Corn has made a wonderful growth the past two weeks and with a few good showers will make a bumper crop. Miss Lois Keeling is looking after the money order department at the postoffice during the ab senca of Miss Tanner. Mrs. George Prater and daugh ters, Chloe and Hazel, and Miss Angie Glen of Sabetha, are spend ing the week in Lincoln, Dr. C- K. TetTt is the new den tist who has decided to cast his lot among us. He has fitted up quarters in the Maddox building where he will be glad to see all desiring his services. Mr. Telit is from Lincoln and comes high ly recommended. He is a most pleasant and agreeable gentle man and we feel sure he lias made no mistake in locating here. l’at Casey and family who have been in this city tor the past two months visiting with relatives, left Sunday for their home in South Dakota. Mr. Casey is much improved in health since coming here- They were accompanied home by their daughter, Mrs. Clem Firebaugh, who will make quite an extended stay in the west. The Tribune will fit up head quarters at the Falls City chautauqua grounds, where they invite their friends to come and rest and feel at home. There will be a supply of Daily Trib unes each evening at six o’clock which will be free to everybody. When you are tired go to the Tribune headquarters and rest. Mr. Ridley and family came down from Auburn and spent Sunday with tV; families of Cass Mead and Judge Gagnon. Mr. Ridley injured his hand quite bad ly in a railway accident, and be* ing a member of the Missouri Pa cific stub crew, came down to con sult the railway physician, Dr. C. T. Burchard. J. A. Williams, state railway commissioner, who addressed the republicans at the court house Thursday night, made this office a very pleasant call Friday morn ing, and we found him a most pleasant gentleman. Mr. Wil liams is a candidate for re-nomi nation. Emancipation day was cele* brated in great style in Hiawatha last Saturday and as a result yery few of the colored, population was left in our city, most of them join ing with their Hiawatha triends in a big time. Henry Wyatt tells us that he has lost his crop of spring pigs. It may be that at the price of corn he will be financially bene fitted even if they were the best crop of thoroughbred Polands in the state Mrs. Frank Clegg returned Saturday to her home in Excel sior Springs after a very pleasant visit in this city at the home of her parents, Mr- and Mrs. Wm. Gossett. The ladies of the Episcopal church realized a nice little sum through the kindness of Mr. Primley in giving the benefit at the Lyric last Thursday evening. Many of our people woke up Friday morning to find themselves a little shy on wearing apparel, the same having been consumed in the laundry fire. Miss Clara Stockton returned Saturday from Washington, Kas., where she had been a guest of Mr. and Mrs- Jesse Whetstine for the past few weeks. Dr. Greene is a new physician in our city. He has established an office over Lyfords store in the rooms formerly occupied by Dr. Wolfe. There are times when to “loye thy neighbor as thyself” requires more effort than any other com mandment. The neighbor wont stand for it. Mrs- W, D. Easley went over to Hiawatha Friday to spend a few days with friends before return ing to her home in Kansas City. The news reaches us that our old friend George Ilansell is seriously ill at his home in Salem Prof. Harnack and family drove over from Hiawatha Sunday and spent the day with Peter Kaiser and wife. We are sorry to hear that our old townsman, Gus Haller, is again quite ill at his home in Grand Island. Ben Nicholson is advertising a public sale for next Tuesday. Mr. Nicholson has decided to go west on account of poor health. Little Mary Cain who has been a guest at the home of Mrs. Fred Cain in this city for some time, left Tuesday for her home in Montana. » Oddie Lapp left Tuesday for a trip through Dakota. She will also visit with Mr. and Mrs. Frank Norris at Hardin, Mont., before returning. Albert Maust and wife left Monday for an eastern trip. They expect to visit many places of interest, and will make most of their trip by water. They will be absent about six weeks. Dr. Roberts is making quite extensive improvements in his dental office in the way of a gen eral clean up and removing par titions, thus giving him much larger and more convenient quar ters. Dave Brannin and wife and Ben Morgan and wife left Sun day for Alcova, Wyo., to spend a portion of the hot weather. Mr. and Mrs. Morgan will visit Yel lowston Park before their return, and Mrs. Biannin will stop at Colorada Springs for a visit with her niece August time, tells on the nerves. He was accompanied by his sis ter, Miss Carrie, who will visit home folks here for a time Misses Florence and Rita Hoose went to Salem Saturday to be in attendance at a house party. Miss Florence will visit friends in Te cumseh before returning home. Mrs. I4 rank Eversole and daugh ter, Miss Reba, came down from Elk Creek the first of the week and will visit with their many Falls City friends for a time. Miss Nellie Rule returned home the latter part of the week from Atchison, where she had been the guest of relatives for the past two weeks. W. A. Greenwald and wife re turned the latter part of the week from their western trip. They report an excellent time. Mrs. Grant Windle apd daugh ter, Thelma, returned Sunday from a few weeks spent with rel atives in Colorado. A street fakir entertained a crowd on the street Saturday night by sticking pins in himself and displaying his wonderful strength.
