M. , where he expects to remain for a week or more , looking over the pros pects for investments. > George Cleveland and Chester Fisher returned from a two weeks' trip through Canada , Sunday. They are well pleased with that country and may invest. L. A. Ryan and son were up from St. Louis to attend the funeral of M. Riley at Dawson . - .J. last week. When Postmaster Crook opened up the mail sacks on Easter morning it was to find an Easter greeting for himself in the shape of his postofiice commission from President Roosevelt. We offered an even exchange for a very pret ty Easter card we had received but Mr. Crook could not see in that way. T. C. O'Gorman , who has been manager of the Matthews store since its opening in our city , will sever his connection with that in stitution and leave the 1st of May ' for Grand Island , whore he ex pects to embark in the insurance business. Mr. O'Gorman has proven himself a thorough business - ' \ ness man ; he and his wife have - > ' made many friends during their short stay here , who will be sorry to see them go. We understand that Mr. Little will assume man agement of the business. M. J. Byrne was down from Dawson Wednesday. Miss May Maddox was a visit or in St. Joe , Tuesday. John Gunsenhauser was down from Ilumboldt Wednesday. George Cleveland made a busi ness trip to St. Joseph , Thursday. Bert Vcach , out on Route 4 , is one of the faithful to remember us this week. J. R. Dunn and wife of Barada , visited with Mrs. Elliott in this city the first of the week. Mrs. Ross of Sparta , Wisconsin is in the city visiting her sisters Mesdames Ed. Fisher and Maud Wigton. Byron Dunn of Barada , left Monday for Jamestown , S. D. , where he expects to spend the next j'ear. Falls City has some of the most jeautiful lawns imaginable , and also has some that are not so pretty. Clean up. Most of the Falls City students it the State university returned to their studies Tuesday , after their Easter vacation with home folks. John Hutchings and sisters are this week busily engaged in moving into the Abbott property recently vacated by GeoSchmel - /el and family. That Falls City possesses some of the best musical talent , was shown by the beautiful song ser vice rendered by St. Thomas' choir Easter Sunday. Miss Stella Knickerbocker will resign her position in the office of Judge Gagnon and expects to leave soon for an extended visit with relatives in Kentucky. Chas. Loree's new home is fast assuming commanding proportions tions and it will not be long be fore Charley is owner of one of the coxiest homes in our city. Mr. and Mrs. Nick Arnold and baby of Barada were in town the first of the week on their way to Omaha , where they go to give their little one medical treatment. Opie Ross and family returned from Georgia where they have been making their home the past year Friday last and will again take up their abode in our midst. Little Johnnie Holt is grieving over the loss of his pony , which has been his faithful companion since Johnnie has been old enough to know what a horse was. The animal died Monday night and Johnnie is beyond consolation. Ed Nolle and wife have dis posed of most of their property in this city and will leave soon for Colorado Springs , where they expect to locate. They will still keep their home place , however , for fear they will not like their new home. It begins to look as though our people will have to go over to Hiawatha if they want to enjoy band concerts this summer. This seems too band when } 'ou consider the amount of good musical talent in our city. Get together , boys , let's have a band. The mayor has designated Tuesday , April 28 , clean-up day. This is a good move and should meet the hearty co-operation of every citizen. All should have enough pride in their home town to lend their aid in making it one of the cleanest places possible. The First Regiment band con cert given in Hiawatha one night last week was the best ever. The people over there arc loud in their praise of Prof. Ilarnack and the rapid advancement the band is making under his direction. They appreciate Mr. Ilarnark over there. A general clean up about your premises at this season of the year is a good start toward mak ing a presentable town to the stranger who chances to come our way. When you do your duty along this line it has a tend ency to awaken a pride in the neighbor who perhaps is more in dolent in such matters. Easter was a perfect day Perhaps it is spring fever. How many trees did von plant Arbor day ? What is a town without a band ? A dead one. Charles McCool was down from Salem , Monday. John Gcrdcs was here from Ilumboldt Monday. Heck was called to Ohio Monday by a telegram annoum- ing the death of his mother. The message was a shock to the fam ily here , as they were not aware of serious illness in the old home until notified that the end had come- Five officials made a raid on a gambling house over in Hiawatha recently. There were eight men found in the place , three however , made their escape , but each officer i had one man to his credit. Who would have thought this of jrood , , old Hiawatha. ! The members of the Deutsche Gessellschaft enjoyed their annual Easter entertainment at their hall on Monday cvcni'ig. The pro gram consisted of an operetta , dance and refreshments It was for members only and a very pleasant evening was the result. The Easter services at the vari ous churches were well attended and the effort in decoration pro duced a very changed effect in each place of worship. In the Reserve items of the Hiawatha World we notice the following : "A Falls City outfit composed of two negroes and two white girls were here Saturday on their way to Hiawatha. A Reserve citix.cn who was at Falls City that day says the girls se cured the rig from a livery stable and drove to a point south of town , where they met the ne groes.
