Miss Leah Poteet , who has been quite ill for some time , is better at this writing. Mrs. Martin Kanaly returned Saturday from a week spent with her parents in Rulo. The local Odd Fellows will be the guests of the Shubert lodge October 24th. Gus Ruegge came in from Gordon baturday night , and will spend the winter at home- Glen McMillan arrived in the city Sunday morning from Broken Bow for a visit with home folks. The dinners served at the National on Sunday from 12:30 : till 2:15 : are unsurpassed in quality and service. A 11-pound boy was born to Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Hedges last Friday. All concerned are doing nicely. Mrs. A. Graham is visiting in St. Louis and from there will go to Cleveland , Ohio , for an ex tended stay with relatives. Herbert Hedges came in from his railroad duties Saturday and spent a few days at home trying to teach the new baby how to say papa. Sharts went to Kansas City Saturday afternoon , return- ingMonday. He was accompani ed home by his wife , who had been there for the past two weeks visiting her son and other relatives. The High School band played a few selections on the street Saturday. This is the band's first appearance in marching order and our people were agree ably surprised at the splendid showing they made. Mrs. Sedlmayer and grand son , Harry Huber , are spending the week in this city visiting their many friends. They like their new home but have to make a trip to Falls City once in a while to get a glimpse of old familiar faces. John Bruhn was given the second degree work in the Odd Fellovs lodge Friday night. It was a hard tussle but he finally pulled through and will be in good shape for the third tonight. Mr. B. Goat is a little worked up over treatment received at the last meeting , and has declared himself , so a warm time is ex pected tonight. Goats and "Bruins" make a bad mix up. Maddox suffered a severe fall while picking apples on his farm north 'of town last Monday. Messrs. Marts , Inskeep , Loree and Fallstcad attended a meeting of the grand lodge of I. O. R. M. in Aurora this week. Wednesday was cleanup day on Stone street , each merchant contributing his share of labor to the improvement. Mrs. Willard Searfc has return ed to her home in this city after spending a couple of weeks with her parents in Beaver City. Dr. Craft's subject at the Court House Wednesda } ' evening will be , ' 'Worlds progress , as related to Markets , Morals and Missions. ' Chas. Hargrave and family accompanied by Miss Bessie Bohrer and Master Roy. were Sunday visitors at Sycamore Springs. The ladies of the Christian church will give a ten cent tea at the residence of Judge Wilhite , Thursday afternoon. Oct. 24th. There will be plenty to eat and a general invitation is extended. Mrs. M. C. Stoughton and grand daughter , Beatrice Bellman - man , returned Monday morning from a two weeks visit in Kansas City. Owing to a freight wreck ahead of them it required about ten hours to make the trip. Mrs. Custer returned Friday from an extended visit with her daughter , Mrs. Norton , in Col orado Springs. During her absence she also visited relatives St. Paul and Minneapolis. She reports a most enjoyable trip. Prof. Harnack has consented to give our people another band concert this evening , at 7:30 : , o'clock , if the weather is favor able. That's right , professor , give us as many as possible , as it will be a long time until next summer. Wm. Wilson of Oregon , writes his friends that he has almost re covered from his accident of a few months ago whereby he sus tained several fractured ribs. He also states that he will soon be settled in a nice new cottage he is building , and writes all his friends to come and see him. Mrs. E. E , Mettz is visiting relatives in St. Joe. George Abbott informs us that his wife is quite ill at Omaha , where she went'some time ago to visit her children. The first freeze of the season was that of last Friday evening , but it has been almost a nightly occurence since. Frank Stump of Kansas City , came up Saturday evening and expects to remain in the city during the winter. He was enroute to St. Lenis on a visit to his parents. Miss Florence Wylie , who has been sick at her home in this city for the east two wofk < ; , has so far recovered as to be able to resume her school work. Mrs. Mary Kollman and son , Fred , of Rapid City , 111. , arriyod in the city the latter part of the week to be at the bedside of the former's sister , Mrs. C. Gehling. They will visit in the city for a short time. W. J. Moran of this citj is one of the lucky ones in the land draw ing of the lower Brulc reservation , which took place at Pierre , S. D. , on Monday. His name appears in the first fifty list. Will's many friends here congratulate him in his good luck. Jack Crook and wife left Wed nesday for quite an extened east ern trip. They will go direct from here to the Jamestown ex position , and from there will go to Washington , D. C. , making the trip by boat , where Mr Crook will attend the postmasters' con vention Oct. 22-23-24. They will return home via the north ern route visiting many places of interest along the way. They will be absent two weeks. George A. Abbott made us a pleasant call on Tuesday and has our thanks for $2 on subscrip tion. George holds tax receipt No.l for 1907 in payment of $74.70 on 69 acres of land a fraction over $ MO per acre. Mr. Abbott has been accused of being a rebel and hobnobbing with Jesse James and like des peradoes , in fact has been repre sented as about the worst ever , but has never been accused of not paying his debts. Those who have saved the files of the former trial will do well to com mence reading them now and save time , as we suppose it will be a re-hatch of what we all waded through a few months ago. Wm. Nims , one of the earliest settlers of this county and among the first business men of Hum- bold t , was in the city Friday and made the Tribune a pleasant call. Mr. Nims is now waxing rich and fat in the stock business through out the west. His success will be good news to his many friends in this community. The Hiawatha Democrat came to us last week in the form of a souvenir edition. It is full of good write ups illustrated with many half tones of the different buildings , business men and enterprises of that town. Mr. Martindale the editor , is a good writer and proves his news paper ability in this last weeks , edition which is indeed a work ot art. Mrs. Grant Windle and daugh ter , Thelma , accompanied the former's sister , Mrs. Chas. Dock- horn , to her home in Oskaloosa , Kas. , last Saturday. Mrs. Dock- horn has been confined to her bed most of the time for the past ten months. She had consulted many physicians , and getting none no relief , came to this city about three months ago and placed her self under the care of Dr Hous ton. She is much improved and there is every chance for her re covery. W. II. Wylie made his usual weekly visit here Monday. G. W. Inskeep spent Sunday in this city with his family. Col. Ed Stock spent Sunday with his parents in this city. Elder Yoilcr and Rev.
