Pete Frederick returned the last of the week from the differ ent race meets of the Nebraska circuit Mrs. Emma Sawyer of Wheaton - ton , Ills. , will arrive Friday to be the guest of Mrs. T. L. Him- melreich. Mrs. Orville Schoenheit and son , Luthain , went to Kansas City Tuesday morning for a visit with friends. MrsJ. . C. Lord and daughters , Miss Vera and Ethel left Friday 'for a visit or several weeks in Lenapah , I. T. Miss Bess Alexander of York this state , is the guest of the Misses Lyford and other friends for a couple ot weeks. George W. Holland and his son- in-law , Mr. DePutran left Tues day morning on a business trip ! to Garden Citv Kans. Last week closed with a few delightfully cool days. A fine shower fell Sunday night but the heat since my , but its hot. Sam T. Jinkins and family who has been visiting their mother and other relatives left for his home in Keewana , Ills.Tuesday of this week. Mr. and MrsE. . F. Sharts and D. W. Easley went to Stella Sun day morning , spending an un usually pleasant day with the family of W. H. Wheeler. Mrs. D- WSowles went to St. Joseph Tuesday morning to see her sister Mrs. George Boone who underwent an operation at the hospital Wednesday morning. Mrs. Mary Mettss and daughter , Lucile , went to St Joe Tuesdaj morning to be with Mrs , Mettz's sister Mrs- George Boone who underwent an operation Wednes day morning at St Joe hospital. Mrs. Robert Cain jr. and little daughter of Stella were guests at the Cain home in this city a few days this weekMr. . and Mrs. Cain will leave next Mon day for quite an extended trip in the East- Word was received Wednesday of the serious illness of typhoid fever of H. W. Grinstead in Oklahoma City. Mr. Grinstead visited his father , George Grin- stead and his sister Mrs. Gilligan here last Spring. C. A. Tim bury was down from Salem last Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Windle came down from Salem Monday. C. O. French of Auburn was in our city Monday on business. Sol Anderson was over from Hiawatha Friday of last week. John L. Pigsley of Freemont , this state , was the guest of Mrs. D. W. Reid this week. Miss Lillie Oswald is at the Missouri lakes this week camping with a party of friends. T. L. Himmelreich was down from Lincoln over Sunday , re turning Monday night. H. A. Atherton of Geneva , Neb. , is in the city , a guest of J. L. Cleaver and Fred Sebold. C. F. Reavis is at the Mar grave's big ranch in Sheridan county this week on business. B. E. Schlater , of Lawrence- burg , Tenn. , is here visiting his son Philip , and other relatives. Rey. John Boose of Rockford , 111. , is in the city , the guest of his father , Wm. Boose and family. Mrs. Dave Davies and sons are camping at the Missouri lakes this week having left Tuesday morning. Fred Sebold left today for Lake Nakoma , Minn. , where he will spend his vacation of about two weeks. Thomas Katen of Alliance Neb. , is here visiting his daugh ter , Miss Katen and his sister , Mrs. Mike Mahoney. Miss Florence Wylie is assist ing in Wahl's store this week in the absence of MrsRieger who is taking her vacation. James Lively and daughter , Miss Vesta , left Tuesday morn ing for Ninton , W. Va. , where they will visit relatives for about three weeks- Miss Ida Frederick went to St. Joseph last week where she will remain for some time. She will be a reader of The Tribune dur ing her absence. Mrs. Ernest Vincent left Sun day to join Mr. Vincent in the new home in Council Bluffs , la. Mr. Vincent is working in the Martins' jobbing office. Hon. L. M. Pemberton of Be atrice was in town last Thursday greeting friends. Mr. Pember ton is one of the strong candi dates for the nomin Mon of judge , fifth district , and wao here in the interest of affairs political. Mrs. Mary Katen Minnick of Chicago arrived last Sunday to visit her sister , Mrs. Mike Mahoney - honey , and renew acquaintance with her man } ' old friends. Jesse Nicholson was a Verdon visitor Friday. H. C. Lapp was quite ill a few days this week. L. L. Corn was down from Verdon Monday on business. Miss Carrie Slocum went to Omaha Tuesday to visit Mrs. Ray Gould. Mrs. John Hossack is visiting her daughter , Mrs. Sloan , in Verdon this week. Mrs- George Goolsby returned to her home in Verdon last Fri day after a weeks visit with friends here. Mrs. Harry Birkett , Mrs , Bert White and Miss Josephine Cran of Lincoln spent chautauqua week with Mrs. Geo. Prater. Mrs. J. E. James returned to her home in Sidney Iowa Tues day after a pleasant visit with her daughter , Mrs. Laurence Snyder. Jerry Hollenbeck , formerly of Falls City but now of Sterling , Nebr. . spent a few days last week the guest of Gee ( Prater. He was enroute home from a busi ness trip to St. Louis. Mr. and Mrs. C. N. Allison left Tuesday night for a two weeks visit with Mr. Allison's parents in Florence Kans. A little later he decided to hunt a cooler place , slipped his halter : and started off. He probably found it hotter the further he went for he stopped up in the addition i- dition ; no damage was done. Chas. Yutzv , wife and daugh ter , little Miss Viberta. and Mrs. Yutzy's sister , Miss Bertie Hoch , of Chicago , arrived from Cadillac , Mich. , last Friday to visit Dr. and Mrs. Yutzy and other rela tives. Charlie has sold his in terests in Cadillac and expects to locate in Chicago after a visit with his parents and sisters here , having been away from Falls City for over twelve years. In that time he has given a great deal of time to the study of the violin , mandolin and cornet at present giving private instruc tions in each ; also he has made a thorough study of piano tuning which profession he follows with marked success. George Barrett is at home again after an extended visit with her sister , Mrs. J. R. Schoenheit in Kansas City and her mother near Rockport , Mo. Mrs. Emerson Beachel of Norcatur , Kans. , is very ill with malaria fever at the home of her parents , Mr. and Mrs. Levi Nedrow. Mr. Beachel was sent for and arrived Tuesday. R. Sutton traveling freight and passenger agent for the Col orado Midland Railway was in the city a few days the latter part of last week and while here made this office a very pleasant call. _ Mrs. Amanda Schuylcr who has visited friends and relative here for several weeks went to Lincoln Monday. And after a short visit there will go to Traverse City , Mich. , where she will make her home with her ser Will Schuyler. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Fisher o Des Moinesla. , arrived Saturday for a short visit with Mr. am' Mrs. T. L. Ilimmelreich. Mr Fisher returned Sunday while Mrs. Fisher remained until Tues day when she went to Kansas accompanied by her daughter Miss Gladys who has visited Mrs Ilimmelreich for some time. Wylie of Forest City visited Monday and Tuesday of this week with relatives here- Miss Erma Schopnheit of Kan sas City , Kan. , is the guest of her grandmother. Mrs. J. R. Wilhite. l Misses Mable and Carrie Greenwald arc camping with a partj' of friends at Missouri lakes this week. Mrs. Jim Pickett went to Lin coin last Friday. She will stop in Sterling and Tecumseh on her way home. Miss Helen Brcbeck left today for St Joe to buy millinery goods . She will also visit St. Louis and Kansas City before she returns. Brown Schoenheit returned to his home in Kansas City , Mo. , today after an extended visit with his grandmother , Mrs. Wilhite. Tim Cummings was down from Dawson a few days the latter part of last week meeting old friends. We were glad to receive a call from him Frank Kieth who has been time keeper for Kilpatrick of the B. & M. road gang went to Omaha this week having a better position offered him. Miss Evans has returned to the 1Ct home of her niece , Mrs. Herbert Hedges after an extended pleasure trip in Colorado where she vis ited a great many places of in terest and beauty. The tea given at Mrs. P. H. Jussen's on Wednesday evening was well attended inspite of the excessively warm weather. Nine dollars were realized from this tea. The Burlington , la. , Gazette of August 31 has this to say of D. W. Ried of this city : HOMK-COMINGS "A unique souvenir post card of the Home Coining has been put out to retailers by D. W. Ried. This card is a very catchy one and will prove a great advertise- mcnt of the event. Mr. Ried , a newspaper man , who is visiting his old home , noticed the absence of a souvenir postal typifying the event , and stepped into the breach with his customary enter prise and furnished the people of Burlington with a novel postal to mail to friends. It must be seen to be appreciated. Mr. Ried may be found at the Gazette office. " Mrs. Rieger is spending her two weeks vacation in Colorado Springs and Denver.
