Broadmen of Hum- baldt , was the guest of J. R. Wilhite Tuesday. T. L. Himmelrich came down from Lincoln to spend Sunday. He returned Monday. Mrs. Willis Yoder , wife of one of the rural mail carries , is very low with quick consumption. Fred Cain came in from his Western territor } ' the first of the week for a visit with his family. Mrs. Harriett Abell left Friday for Ainesworth , Neb. , for an ex tended visit with her son , Ben Abell. _ G. J. Crook and J. R. Wilhite attended the funeral of the Hon. John Breckman at Humboldt , Monday. Mrs. Norman Musselman re turned from St. Joseph Saturday , after a few days visit with friends. Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Sherdeman ol Lincoln , visited over Sunday with Mrs. S's parents , Jim Jelli- son and wife. W. H. Marrow of Shubert , was in town b'etween trains Tuesday en route for Humboldt where he on business. Miss Lillie Schmidley came up < * , ' fjom St. Joe , Saturday , to spend the week end with her sister , Mrs. Breithaupt. Mrs. McCoy is filling Miss Naylor's place at the long dis tance telephone office while thq latter is having her vacation. Louise Rule and Myrtle Huff nell went to Salem on Friday , for a visit with the former's grandparents , Mr. and Mrs. Mc- Cool. _ The weather man must think the fruit in this country is like a cat with nine lives and is deter mined to kill it and give it a snow burial. George Inskip came in from his western trip Saturday very near on the sick list and will stay at home a few days to recuperate. He got to much alkali water. Eva Bacon of Speiser precinct was here Saturday to meet with the school board at a special ses sion. Miss Bacon is an instructor of ability and merit and has en joyed excellent success in her work in the past. Her work has Ven such that any school shouU ie proud of her services. Mrs. Jim Powell left Friday for Gordon , to join her husband who has been there a month. The hoosehold goods were shipped Thursday. They leave many friends in Falls City who wish them prosperity and happi . v ness in the new home , but regret their leaving their old home. Reavis , Isham Reavis and Ed Falloon were before the supreme court in Lincoln Tues day. Mrs. Wadhams of Lincoln , ar rived in the city Saturday , for a visit with the family of her cousin , J. R. Wilhite. Sterling and Virgil Falloon , Edgar Schock and Blain Yoder were among those who attended the Southeastern Field meet at Eumboldt on Saturday. Rena Ilaney and Elizabeth arhart were Falls City visitors Saturday in order to meet with the school board in a special ses sion relative to securing positions in our schools for the coming term. Miss Maggie McMahan made a very beautiful hand-painted sofa pillow which she raffled off last week at ten cents a chance- Phillip Schlater was the lucky one , holding No. 1 , which drew the cushion. Ben Poteet has tendered the chautauqua company the use of his home grounds for the season. The grounds consist of six acres , with both well and city water and the finest shade to be found arround the town. A jolty automobile party con sisting of Miss Graham , Miss Miss Slocum , Miss Hutchins and H. C. Smith made a trip to Salem and Verdon Monday evening. The party enjoyed a fine supper at Verdon and with good roads and weather the trip proved a most plearant one. Henry Ruegge , found a squir rel in the court house yard last Sunday. Why would it not be a good idea to introduce a num ber of these pretty little animals into the square ? Nearly every city park has a large number of squirrels and no doubt the little fellows could be made to feel at home in the court house square Julius Smith , from south of Sal em , came into town Saturdaj' and while heie was taken suddenly ill , falling in a faint in front of Whitaker Bros , office. It was at first feared that his condition was dangerous but when Dr. Wil son was called it was found to be less serious and later in the day he was able to be upon the street again. Eggs wanted at Shields' Va riety Store. 72-2t Dr , Hahn made a business trip to Stella , Saturday. E.ra Lichty from near Merrill - rill was in town Wednesday. Frank Simons was a Rule visitor to Falls City Monday. Mrs. 1) . C. Simmons of Salem was shopping in the city Wed nesday. Lizzie Xubrick of Verdon visited her uncle , Lcyi Kubrick over Sunday. George Falste ad made a busi ness trip to Omaha Monday re turning Wednesday. Harry Crooks , traveling' sales man for the Leo Vinegar Factor } * , was in town a few clays this week. Rev. Cline went to Auburn Tuesday to attend the district Ministerial association held at that town. Chas. Xoeller and son , Elmer , of Preston , were in our city Mon day. We acknowledge a very pleasant call. Mrs. W. II. Kerr will return from Omaha Saturday , where she has been visiting her daughter , Mrs. Hanson. Mrs. A. E. Gantt. returned from Humboldt Monday , where she has spent the last week owing to her father's illness. Mrs. D. W. Sowles and Mrs. Mary Mettx returned from St. Joseph Saturday where they have been visiting their sister , Mrs. George Boon. St. Martha's Guild will give a ten cent tea at the residence of Orville Schoenheit Wednesday May 15th. A cordial invitation is extended to all. While in the city last Saturday , Dr. Kenney of St. Josephassisted by Dr. Emma Lawrence removed a tumor from the eye of Lizzie Zubrick of Verdon. The opera tion was very painful , but the lit tle girl stood the operation nicely and at this writing , under Dr. Lawrence's care , is doing very well. The Difference.
