I Fleming Robb came down from Verdon Wednesday evening. Wm. McPhcrson came up from Preston the first of the week. Rev. H. B. Smith was down from Lincoln the first of this week. Clara and Elta Boose spent Sunday at Auburn and attended chautauqua. Harlow pays highest price for butter and eggs and gives either groceries or cash. Wm. Moran and wife have re turned from an extended trip through the North west. Mrs. Lee Crawford and daugh ter of Stella have been visiting with Mrs. Tipton this week. Lloyd Morris and wife of Stella spent Monday here , the guests of her parents D. P. Lowe and wife. Harry Morrow came up from Kansas City the first of the week and spent several days with his mv . wife and baby in this city. Chief L. C. Beasley and wife went to Nebraska City Saturday evening for a two days visit with their daughter Mrs. May Beyette. Geo. Holland and family , W. S. Korner and family and Mrs. Harry Morrow and daughter were Hiawatha visitors the past Tuesday. _ _ Mrs. Mary McKiever , Mazie and Leo , and the two little daughters of John McNamara left Sunday for Chicago where they will reside in the future. Reuben Horrocks is attending to business affairs in Indian Territory this week. He owns land in that vicinity and he went to attend to the crops and several other affairs pertaining to his property. Mr. McBride this week remov ed a portion of his stock of drugs to his pharmacy at Stella and the remainder he sold to Dr. Kerr. Dr. Kerr has taken up a greater portion of the week in moving his stock into the building form erly occupied by McBride. We have been copying our sub scription list during the past two weeks , and if any of our sub scribers should miss their paper they will confer a favor if they notify us immediately of non-ar rival of the same. The work of copying and arranging a list is no small matter and it is possible that we might overlook a name purely accidentally. H. M. Jenne has secured the services of Geo. Gebhardt to do shoe repairing and cobbling at .his shoe store , and patrons are assured of the best of work along this line. Mr. Gebhardt was for many years connected with the , Geo. B. Tom Spence who has been spending : his summer vacation in this city will leave Monday for Mound City where he will join the Locke Dramactic Company with whom he has been forsever- al theatrical seasons. Mr. Spence is a professional musician and is an accomplished artist along : this line. The Val Blatfc manager Of their business affairs in this state was here on Tuesday. This company is talking ; of putting a new cement walk around their store house just sout of the Put nam Bottling House. The elaborete display of Mexi can drawn-work in the Walil store window is attracting a great deal of attention. The work varies from the smallest ot doilies to a large lunch cloth and is about the prettiest needle-work display ever seen in this city. Mrs. Thomas Snyder of In dianapolis who has been visiting her parents Mr. and Mrs. Ben Foster for the past five weeks left for her home Friday. She was met by Mr. Snyder in Bush- nell , 111. , and they will visit in Chicago a few days. George Grinstead and Joseph Wedner are doing some artistic painting and graining on the in terior of JohnGilligan new home this week. They are both artists in this line and when the job is completed it will be just right. Herman Zoeller. who liyes two miles northeart of Falls City brought the most artistically loaded load of ha } ' to town Mon day , that we have seen in many a day. His nephewRoy Schaible , loaded the wagon. Isaac Heaston came in from Sheridan , W3'oming the first of the week and is visiting with his family. He returns to Sheridan Sunday. H. T. Gardner left Saturday for Canada where he will join liis wife and children who have been visiting there for several weeks. Mrs. Sullivan living in the south-eastern part of town is seriously ill. the chances for her recovery being very slight. Mrs. Edward Schroder of Lin coln arrived in the city last Thursday for a visit with the family of Ben Foster. Mrs. Chas Lietzhke , daughter and son returned last Friday from an extended visit in New York. L. Knickerbocker went to Rule Tuesday morning to attend the funeral of Charles Gagnon. Mrs. Jane Shoup returned the first of the week from a visit with relatives at Auburn. Sallie Schoenheit entertained MissOllie Harris of Stella the past Saturday and Sunday. Herman Zoeller , from out northeast of town , dropped in and said hello , Tuesday. Herman Minnick of Atchison spent the past Sunday with his mother in this city. Beck of Pawnee City was attending to business here the past Saturday. W. II. Wylie of Nebraska City made his usual Monday trip to city this week. Sam Ross of Lincoln spent Saturday and Sunday with friends in this city. L. B. Nicky and Earl Neely came down from Nebraska City the first of the week. Robt. McCormick of Omaha is visiting with his parents Joseph McCormick and wife. Sheriff Fenton attended the funeral of Charles Gagnon at Rule on Tuesday morning. BOKN On Friday August 17th an infant daughter was born to Fred Knickerbocker and wife. Frank Shubert , from the town that bears his name , was a plea sant caller at this office Saturday. Mrs. Nancy McKinsey and daughter of Ft. Worth , Texas are visiting with her brother , Peter Loar. Mrs. Win. Cade and grand daughter Laura drove to Dawson - son Tuesday where the ) ' were the guests of Mrs. V. EEmer son.- Emery Fry and wife returned Sunday from Auburn where they were visiting her sister Mrs. Geo. Codington , and attending the chautauqua. Arthur Walton of Colorado who has been the guest of Tom Spence , left Wednesday for Mound City , where he will join the Locke Dramatic Company. Harry Hughes returned Tues day evening from his ten days vacation trip to Oswego , Kansas and has resumed his position at the Cleveland Department store. D. F. Harbaugh of Dawson , who has been furnishing toppy cattle for this market all summer , had in Monday three carloads that averaged 1,429 pounds and sold at $6.10. Harry Pittock returned the first of the week from St. Joseph where he has enjoyed an excel lent position , the past three months , with the large house of Chambers & Marney. The Vinegar factory will be ready to rsceive apples by Sep tember 1st. The farmers should bring in all their ready apples at that time and will receive 20 cents per 100 pounds for them. Special Trains via Burlington teState State Fair , Lincoln. On Tuesday Sept 4th and Wednesday Sept 5th special trains will leave Falls City 6:00 : a. m. via Nebraska City and Thurs day Sept 6th special trains leave Falls City 530 ; a. m. going via Table Rock. Returning leaves Lincoln 7:00 : p. m. daily. One fare for round trip. Katie Nitzsche , Mina Clcason and Hulda Koehler , while driv ing along the road Monday near Rule were upset and badly bruised and scratched from the effect of a runaway caused by boys throwing at and frightening the horse. Miss Gleason was confined to her bed from the ef fects of bruises and the shock. The boys will most likely be ar rested for bad conduct. Mary and Lydia Werner , Louisa Yocsel , Rev. Manshart and wife , Ben , Dave and Minnie Gates , Rev. Naninga and wife , Walter and Will Halm , Carl and Clara Weincrt. Mrs. Weinert and Charles Gade left last Thursday morning to attend the Y. P. A. convention being held at Topeka Kansas. The Firemen's Tournament which will be held at Humboldt next Thursday. Friday and Sat urday will be quite an event in the way of pleasure and good sport. The Humboldt Volunteer Fireman have the state record for running and coupling. Three days of pleasure. Rev. Koehler brought this force a half bushel of delicious yellow peaches or. Wednesday of this week which have received a large share of attention. We thank the Reverand for his kind ly rememberancc. W. H. Crook attended t h e democratic convention at Lincoln this week. His daughter Miss Edna and her friend Miss Kackcl- reis accompanied him on the trip. trip.H. H. E. Boyd of Humboldt was in this City Friday while en route to Coshodone , Ohio where he was called by the serious ill ness of a brother. Lloyd Peck had a tract of twenty acres in wheat this year which 3'ielded an average of fifty-one bushels to the acre. Treasurer J. S. Lord was among the people from here that attended the Gagnon funeral at Rule last Tuesday morning. Mrs. II. H. Burkett and little daughter of Lincoln spent a few days the past week the guest of Mrs. George Prater. BOKN. To Rev. 'Lindenmcyer and wife , early Wednesday morn ing an eight and one half pound baby girl. Lincoln Williamson of Hum boldt spent Saturday among his friends in this part of the county. Mrs. Wise and daughter Vcrda of Reserve , Kansas spent Friday with friends here. Cass Jones of Rule was a plea sant visitor at this office on Sat urday of last week. John Oswald has been suffer ing the past week from his hands being poisoned by chemicals with which he was working at his photo gallery. As Brother Giannini says "Were we all to go to the hot place to-morrow , we would un animously yell back for blankets , the change being so great from the climatic conditions here the past two weeks.
