v years by what is known as the
grinding process , and during all
this time the student has been
pursuing studies that he knew
would be of no practical use to

must know a few branches and
in order to get them he must go
through the grinding process.

Herbert Hedges was one of a
large class to take the civil ser.
vice examination at Kansas
City some weeks ago. Last
week he received a report of his
standing. The average per
centage made on his papers was
8-1 , which is a very good show

those taking the examination
would get through This puts
him in line for an appointment
as railway mail dork if he de

Mr. Herbert Hedges , the
young man referred to in the
above article was one of the

master for several years. His
younger brother , known as
little Ralph is now book-keeper
in Kansas City making his $100

Nebraska , on Tuesday , August 28 ,
1000 , at 11 o'clock in the forenoon , for
the purpose of placing In nomination
a candidate for elate senator for the
tlrst senatorial district of Nebraska , to
be voted for at the next general election -
tion to be held In the state of Nebras
ka , November fi , 1000 , arid for the tran
saction of buch other busings as may
come before said convention.
The basis of representation of the
counties composing said first senatorial
district In baid convention shall be the
vote ciibt for Hon. Chas. B. Lctton for
supreme judge at the general election
held November 7 , 1905 , giving one del
egate for each 100 votes or major
fraction thereof so cast for said Hon.
