The new catalogue of Mongtomery-Ward relates a visit made by their representative to my store and the purchase he made. This catalogue says he paid $3.50 for a wool robe that they will sell for $3. The wool robe I sold him was made by the Northern Woolen Mills of Cleveland , Ohio. Montgomery-Ward cannot buy a single robe of this concern , and they haven't a wool robe in their establishment like the one I sold him. "My friend was taking a walk one morning after a severe ill ness. As he trudged along , he saw an acquaintance , a coal deal er , standing beside his scales. " 'Just give me my weight , will you ? ' said my friend , as he stepped on the machine. 'I want to see how much I've pulled down. ' " 'Weight , Bill ! ' called the dealer to the clerk inside. Montgomery , Want & Co. have had a man in Falls City patronix.- ing our merchants. The result of his' visit is published in a May and June supplement just issued by that concern. On page 38 of that supplement the following appears : ' 'At the furniture store of Reavis it Abbey , Falls City , Neb. Mr. Walker inquired the price of a cabinet like our R f 22. It was $ y.7S. Our price for the same pattern at Chicago , is $5.55 , a difference in our favor of $4.20 era a saving of 43 per cent. The freight from Kansas City to Falls City is 25c. " Mr. Abbey waited on this gen tleman and priced a kitchen cab inet with top $4.75 and base $5 , total (9.75. ( ) Page 1101 Montgomery Wards catalogue , pictures cabinet R622 for $5.55 HUT IT HAS xo TOP ON IT , and only one Hour bin. Our base has two bins and just as large as R622 and we ask only $5 for it here in Falls City. Why did he not price his Fam ous Russell Cabinet Page 1101 cabinet R021. They ask $5.W for it in Kansas City and when you get it the freight must be paid and the railroad has broken it nine times out of ten , then it must be set up and castors bought for it. We had that on our lloor for $6.00 set up , castored and freight paid , and it was so priced to this Piker. Mr. J , 1C. keyda has purchased this cabinet of us and paid us $ f for same. Hut further. He priced every thing in our house HUT IIOTOHT NOTHING. He did not mention Globe Wcrnickc Hook pases. He did not mention Stearns & Fosters superior felt , mattrasses , He did not mention limerick pillows. lie did not mention McDotigall Kitchen Cabinets. Nor carpet sweepers , nor Kar- pen Leather furniture , nor car pets , etc. Uccause they arc sold the same the world over and be ing standard goods , his firm can not handle same. We ask in all fairness to be given credit for honesty and fair ness in this statement. This firm of Montgomery Ward are pirates in business and resort to lies and misrepresentations to injure the commercial relations of the citi- x.ens of thiscounty and elsewhere , They should be outlawed by all decent citizens. We promise and advertise to beat them on all standard made goods. We handle no shoddy , their slock in trade , and respectfully request that every customer for Furniture or Carpets will call on us before sending your money away or at least send to us for our catalogue of carpets or furniture , which will be had for the asking. REAVIS & ABBEY FALLS CITY , - NEBRASKA. NOW AND THEN. There never lias been a time when { food horses were worth more than now. A visit to the Kansas City horse market last week disclosedprices that were positively startling' . The most ordinary kind of a draft horse was eagerly sought at $150 while good teams brought all the way from three to six huu- dred dollar.- . How long these prices will prevail was a sub ject oi much guess work among the patrons of the market , the prevailing opinion being that they would hold for at least a year longer. Time was , and not very long ago at that , when horses were a drug on the mark et. The finest kind of animals went begging for a purchaser , while the ordinary kind could not be sold for the cost of pro- duction. The automobile , bicycle and other means of rapid transit may have had some effect on the roadsters but the draft horse has no competi tion and remains the King of live stock. Every farmer should raise good horses. Breed your mares to the best stock in the neighborhood ; treat the colts with all consideration for k they will either be your servants in the future or a great assist ance to your bank account. The idea of compelling a colt to follow its mother at the plow all day is not only cruel but is destructive of the colt. Let it play about the barn lot. If possible give it plenty of com pany. Feed it well , not only from the fountain of life but from the grain bin as well. If you get the right blood in your animal and treat it with the consideration so valuable an as set deserves , our word for it , you will be the gainer in the end. i * < The result of the liquor re monstrance has been the subject - ject of considerable comment among our people for the past two weeks. The bitterness dls- played and the hard feeling en gendered will last for a long time The prohibition or anti- license movement was never be fore so strong as it was imme diately following the late mu nicipal campaign. This senti ment has been weakened by the filing of the remonstrances. Ordinarily the governmental policy of a majorit } ' rule is in great favor with the people , and the majority having pro nounced against the anti-license movement the general sent ! ment seems to be that it would have been wiser and better for our prohibition friends to have waited for the next election and depended upon public senti ment for the growth of a move ment that seemed destined to eventually make Falls City a dry town. However , this was not the view of the remonstrators - ors and the liquor fight has been the result. The hard feeling created by the contest will probably result in a new align ment. The saloons will un doubtedly be in favor of a single ticket next spring , in order that their forces may not be divided as they were last spring. Such a contest would defeat whatever chance the anti-license people had for suc cess. It is only three tickets in the field that there is any pro bability of them winning , and thiscondition has beeneliminat ed by the remonstrances. On the other hand , the remon strances will have a good effect in making the saloon keepers more careful to keep within the letter of the law. It is a pretty safe guess to say that no minors will be permitted to purchase liquor here within the next year. The accomplishment of this will make the saloons stronger than before as many voters are in favor of high li cense only when the business is conducted according to law. * V * We have never been able to convince ourselves that a cold storage plant would not pay in Falls City. "Within the past month Johnathan apples -have sold on the streets of Falls City for 35 cents a dozen. These apples were cold storage apples and were shipped in from Colorado. Think of it , shipping apples from the desert to the land of plenty. Kichardson County Johnathans are the fin est apples in the world and are so regarded by every apple ex pert. Year after year we raise immense crops , sell them for fifty cents a bushel to the'apple packer in the spring send out to Colorado and pay three doll ars for the same stuff we sold for fifty cents a few months be fore. Richardson County is full of cold storage products. 12ggs butter , apples and many other articles of produce that could be kept in cold storage with great prollt. The cold storage at Leaveuworth and Kansas. City are filled with Richardson County produce. It has been purchased by the buyer and is field by him for the produce. It has been purchased by the buyer and is held by him for the inevitable raise in price thai- pays him a handsome profit. If we had a cold storage our people ple could do the same thing. The fanner could make two or three times what he now makes and instead of letting such a good thing go to the commis sion man , could retain it him self. f * How men despise each other and how we burn ourselves out with hate. How great our troubles seem to us and how little they are after all. Have you ever cherished a wrong against another ? Have you nursed it and brooded over it until it has become a mighty mountain ? Have there been times in your life when your better nature struggled for the mastery and you were even tempted to sympathise with your enemy in misfortune ? How you have fought such emotions as unworthy of you. How you have beaten down that which is best by remembering the wrong that was done you and sought with all your power to rejoice in your enemy's sadness or dis tress. Yet when the years are gone and lime has softened your anger , you will be just a little ashamed of yourself and the perspective will have softer outlines in the distance. Gov ernor Boyd and Governor Thayer - er were enemies and hated each other as cordially as man can. Within the past few weeks both have been gathered to their Fathers. That about which they quarreled is of no consequence. Their hatred and its causes that once seemed so monumental to them is but an ugly memory , and the years of enmity are lost years as they might have con tained things which make life sweeter instead of things which make of life a hell. The little quarrels of men are not worth while no good has ever come of them. Jealousy , hate scandal , have embittered many a life and. destroyed many bright p r o- spects. The love of your fellow man never drove a smile from a human face. The hate ot one o your kind has never dried a human tear since the days of Cain and never will. * . * Poverty is not a crime and therefore we are not ashamed to confess that we are poor. Do you realize that a dollar a year is a very small price to ask for a paper such as The Tribune ? There is but little more in it than the cost ot production. For us to maintain the price it is essential that our subscribers should be prompt in meeting their subscriptions , in fact , all subscriptions should be paid in advance. There are a few of our subscribers , and fortunately they are very few , who have been somewhat neglectful of this matter. We would appre ciate a remittance from such at the earliest possible moment. \Ve need the money , it belongs to us , we have been giving you more than value for your money. Please give the matter your attention at once. A Clear Complecticm and Bright Eyes. In most eases a sallow , blotched com plexion and dull heavy eyes are due to poor digestion and an inactive liver.
