Fire a.t Auburn ,
A , dIsastrous fire occurred at
Auburn , on Saturday night. Sev-
eral small building on the north
side of the principal business
street were burned to the ground ,
and some damage done to the
plate glass windows in the stores
across the street. \Ve are informed -
formed that A. E. Souder suff-
ered some slight loss of this char-
acter. The total loss is reported
to be about S5OOO , partly covered
by insurance.
Elks Meet and Organize ,
The members of the Elks lodge '
which IS to be installed in this
city on the night of : May 20th ,
met at the Sphinx club rooms on
Saturday night , and organized
by the election of the following
officers : Dr. Fred Kellar , exalted
ruler ; Rev. H. B. Smith , esteemed
leading knight ; Geo. Hall , esteemed -
teemed loyal knight ; R. C. James ,
es ! eefued lecturing knight ; Ed
M. : May , secretary ; J. C. Tan-
ner , treasurer ; Herman Minnick ,
tyler ; Dave Davies , Grant \Vin-
del and John Powell , trustees.
The lodge starts out under the
most favorable circumstances ,
and with the above gentlemen in
control of its affairs for the next
year , it should prove an unqualified -
fied success. The installation on
the night of May 20th promises
to be one of the biggest affairs
Falls City has ever seen. It is
estimated that 300 hundred visiting -
ing Elks will come on the Oma-
ha , Platts mouth , Lincoln and
Beatrice special which will reach
Falls City about four o'clock in
the afternoon of the 20th.

District Court ,
. Judge Kelligar held a short
adjourned term of the district
court on : Monday afternoon. A
few' ' minor orders were made , but
no cases were tried. The indict-
ment found by the grand jury at
its late session against Lind Car-
son of Auburn was dismissed by
County Attorney James on the
written request of the complaining -
ing witness. Judge Kelligar adjourned -
! journed court until May 9th , at I
which time the injunction case of

Be it known that on the 20th

of Houston and Wiser dissolved
partnership by mutual agree-

State bank for collection. It is

While going along the west
side of the street don't forget to
stop and take a look at the beau-
tiful embossed paneled , game ,
piece pictures for dining rooms
at G. E. Hall's shoe store. They
are certainly beauties. Mr. Hall
is giving thc'tn away with every
purchase made that amounts to
at least one dollar. Don't fail to
call early for they may be all
gone if you wait.
Among the Richardson county
stockmen who have been on the
Kansas City market during the
past week were Sam Kimmel who
received $5.90 for a car load of
stockers ; 1. W. Harris of Stella
who received S4.90 for a shipment
of fat cows , : . . Fiddler of Falls
City with one car of prime steers ;
\V. F. Dunning & Co. , or 'Yerdon
three cars of cattle ; and E. L.
Brown of Yerdon with a mixed
load of stock.
1. W. Harris of Stella was a
pleasant caller at this office 'rues-
day. : Mr. Harris is known
throughout the county as one of
the best judges of cattle in the
west , and like every other man
who knows his business has made
a great success of it.
Dr. and Mrs. F. C. Wiser will
leave in a few days for Silverton\
Col ? where the former has large
mining interest. Dr. Wiser will
take up the practise of medicine
ill his new home and will no
doubt be very successful.
Mrs. Rosie I\-Iichles gave a
quilting party to her many friends
they were royally entertained.
