The merchants there have signed a petition to be presented to the officials of the road , praying that the ends of the two' 'plug" runs be located at Falls City One "plug" runs from Auburn to Omaha and the other from Hiawatha to Kansas City. It is doubtful it there will be any change.-Hia watha ' \V orId. The following Falls City peo- ple came over to Hiawatha Sat- rday to hear Innes : Irs. C. M. Wilson and daughter , Anita , Mrs. . With the calling of the special election for congressman to fill the Burkett vacancy the congres- sional campaign in this district may be . said to have definitely opened. That Lincoln will make a desperate effort to retain this office within the corporate limits of that city goes without saying , and is more of a certainty than twice two makes four. To this no one can make legitimate objection - jection on the theoretical grouud of equality before the law or the right of any citizen in any place , . in the district to aspire to any office within the gift of the peo- . . pIe. But on the basis of common fairness : , of equity between men , of knowing when one has his share and more ; of recognizing that one of the lines of demarca- tion between man and swine is that the latter want to stand in the trough as well as to"eat from it-on these reasonable grounds a Lancaster county candidate for congress is asking for the apple , the paring , the seed and any chance worm that may have in- - . - - ' ' . . . . . . . . . . . , . . . . . . . . : i.e . - -P y W. . , " . . . . . , .r. . { , g vaded the fruit while hanging on the tree or resting in cold stor- age. A list of good things polit- ically held by Lancaster citizens would be too long for publication \n \ 'rhe ribune. Beginning with the United States senate and for- eign embassies , through many : ; minor holdings of public office of more or less importance. Lan- caster is true to the origin of her amc-she might well be called the "House of Lancaster , " or to modernize the expression , the "State of : ancaster" would not come amiss. + None of these honors are begrudged - grudged by the outlying "coun- try"-rather do wc all take pride in the high ability and forcefulness - ness of the men whom Lancaster has furnished for important pub- lic service - but in Heaven's name , is there not some point where it may be said , "It is enough ( " Does not that point lay just a little this side of the place where Lancaster gets everything - thing ? . The question answers itself and requires no argumcnt. It is for the counties of this district - trict outside of Lancaster to say I courteously , but firmly , that. the coming congressman from this district must be a resident of some other section of the district than Lancaster. The outside counties have the power , if they will ex- ercist it , and if they fail to stand pat and firm on this occasion they will have frittered way the opportunity - portunity in twenty years and closed the door of opportunity against themselves for ten or . twenty years to come.-Nebraska City Tribune.
