Seriousness of Bridge Whist. . . i
The boor stood open as I passed , a
and therein I beheld silent groups of
women sitting around tables , their
hands before their faces , their eyes
rlvited upon a sheaf of cards which
they seemed about to devour. "What
Is this ? " I Rslted. "Why this appalling
silence and Intense demeanor ? " "Oh & .
that Is a bridge whist club , " was the
response. "It's a matter of life or
death with all the players.-Ex-
change.
Life is what we are alive to. It la
not length , but breadth. To be alive
only to appetite , pleasure , pride , mon-
oy-maltlng , and not to goodness and
kindness , purity and love history ,
poetry and music , flowers , stars God
and eternal hopes , is to be all but
dead.-Maltbie D. Babcocle. .
