A lean nan.
'fhis is a true story of the
meanest man I lwow.
One evening after school a
manly , merr.y-eyel little boy came
run nitig home frightened ; his
father asked the cause , to which
the boy replied : , .
.
' Neclcly ran me home. "
"I doti't want YOU to run , I
want you to keep out of trouble ;

but always take your own part ,
The next time Heddy tries to run
you , just stand up to lout and if
you don't run I'll give you a dol-
lar.
I was at thc house the other
evening wren the little chap came
in. His clothing WilS covered
with dirt , his eye was swollen
and tur..lngbluc , his nose and
lips were bleeding-
.
" ' \v 11 R t's wrong , II asked the
fa ther.
"I had a fight with l : eddy , "
his eyes were filling and the
bloody lip trcmbled. "I didn't
run. " ' 'he sobs were fast filling
his threat and the tears were falling -
ing- now.
" 1'ou shoulllcn fight t my son , "
said the yit rtuous parent.
"Y ou- bu t you said you would -
give - me - a clollar" returned the
boy.

"I said that for you to know I
didn't want a coward for a son , "
said . the man of high ideals , "run
to your mcther and have your
face washed , you are a sig-ht. "
A look of distrust had crept into
thc troubled eyes of the little bob .
His tears ceased and his lip did
not trcmble. The shock had
stifled his grip. Hc had learned
something , something that he
had believed to be impossible , his
father would tell a lie. So hurt
and sore and disappointed he
quietly left the room.
I have never liked this man

At The Court House.
1'11e week has been a busy one
at the court house. The old
board is holding its last session
and working hard to dean up all
old mdtters. Most of the week
has been spent in the allowance
of claims and in this thc 1.oard
has used the pruning knife ; : un-
sparingly.
'Tlte'T'ribune bill for printing
the ballots was cut to 8201.75.
This is wholly inadequate for
he t work done and considerably
less than has been allowed in the
preceeelingpresidental ycars.
The . HorneF. . E. Martin
county attorney . , -
tin , volunteered his opinion that
8HIO was enough but thc board
though otherwise.Ve un der-
stand thc Journal , in the interest
of the tax payers of course , will
appeal from this allowance.
In this The Tribune will join
them as we want the matter re-
