President Roosevelt has inaug-

amendment of thc interstate com-
mcrcc law so that freight rates
shall be under government super-
vision. For years freight rates
have been controlled by thc several -
eral states and because of thc
pernicious influence of the rail-
roads in politics , practically nothing -

Under the interstate commerce
law as it now is , the commission
can do nothing more than : cake
recommendations which arc regarded -

railroads please. The president
now expresses his impatience
at state control and his
