Surprised Thein.
Although the Colts do not be-
long to time National league , still
it is not because they cannot play
as veil but for the simple reason
'lk that they havn't the practice , timc
and bear the name of amatcur.
The Omaha team certainly had
a surprise which lasted during
the entire I.mme 1\tcsday.
The extraordinary manner in
which Rueggc pitched the sphere
and the wonderful quality of Po-
teet with the mit certainly pro-
duccd a sensation among the
league paj'ers.tl'hen. ! . when
Scars the first man up featured
.
( '

first ball tossed by Leibhardt they
commenced thinkin ? . G I in i c s
made a lovely hit in the fourth
inning , while Cornell mad e a

.ning' . Whcncvcr anyone can beat
: . . . . , Foehlinger and Foster stealing
bases wc just wish they would
notifiy us , as they did excellent
work both on bases and in their
positions in the team. Jarrott
threw in a pretty drive from right
field , while Heck covered second
to a finish. Scores were run in
.
by Scars , Poteet , Foster and
. ' . H'ochlinger. Game by innings.

A good double was made bj' Fodc

UMPIRE WINS
The Colts were defeated at
Verdon last Sunday , lat rules
were suspended and the judge got
dsy. It was thc first time we
knew that the game was played
} hy thc umpire , but of course since
( Vcrdon has no ball players with
thc exception of a few imported
affairs we will have to overlook
such trincs. Parrish thc dark
t
spot and Bumn thc bunch of atmosphere -
mosphere came down from Tc-
cumsch and did the battery work
for the village of Vcrdon. Pax-
ton pitched one ; of thc prettiest
games of the season while Potcct
.
. ' ,
stood behind the man at thc bat.
\Vhenc\'er Vcrdon becomes thc
possessor of nine ball players : then
their umpire wont ha\e : to put
down alt thc score marks.
By thc way what is thc date ,
for thc game between Vcrdon and ,
thc National League team ?
