without thc payment of a dollar.

tion to thc local patrons if it were
given equal rights with the Bell
company and the local company.
At the suggestion of the local
company this was dcnied by the
city council. '

petition would put into the pock-
ets of local patrons now goes to
the Falls City COifl ) any under' its
contract with the intcr-state.
The city gets nothing , thc citi-
cns get held up , and ; we are ask-
ed to be fair and say nothing
about such a graft.
'l'he three farmers mutual com-
panies along whose line there
are many hundreds of farmers
who desire admission to this city.
'rhis has been denied thcm.
These farmers arc patrons of this

ands of dollars with our merch- I
an ts every year. Do you not
think we could well afford to be
as generous with them as wc arc
to thc Bell company and the local
company ?
1'0 let in thc Rub , Vcrdon and
thc wson-Salem farmers com-
panies : will cxtend the business
limits of Falls City to every home
on these lines. It will permit
several hundred farmers to talk
with our business men from their
own home. It will add greatly
to our market and increase the
business of every physician , every
lawyer , every grain merchant ,
every undcrtaker . . , every butcher ,
every dry goons merchant in fact
every Uusincs man in Falls City.
And all this is to be denied in the
interest of a few wealthy grasping -
ing men.
When thc Dawson-Salem com-
pan asked permission to enter
this city its interests were made
known to the council by such '
men as Mr. Grush , 1.11' . Hummel , -
Mr. \Vertz. \Ir.Ayers ! and others.
The writer has personal knows
ledge of two farmer subscribers i
on this line who were formerly C
regular customers of this city , who t
have not traded a dollar here
since thc action of thc council ,
and because of such unjust ( lis1
crimination. \Vc have heard of '
many others who have pursued I
thc same course. (
The streets of Falls City belong - 1
long to thc people of Falls City. 1
