hold goods yesterday , allowing
' him $265 on a $300 policy.
Elt Nuns , who is running a restaurant -

this city the first of the week.

catine , la. , arrived in the city
Friday and will take up their
residence here.

ary conventions of the Nebraska
City district are holding a two

days : convention in this ci ty .
The family of C. H. Wilson ar-
rived here Saturday and have
taken up their abode in the .Gar-
ver cottage on north Central av-
enue.
Elton Nims is now engaged in
the restaurant business in Kan-
sas City , having purchased an
established business there. He
was at home a day or two during
the 'veek.
Rev. Cobb who was formerly a
Methodist : pastor at this place , is
now located at Tusla , 1. T. and
in addition .to his ministerial
duties recently assumed editorial
charge of the Chief , a weekly pa-
per published at that place.
Humboldt people are arranging
to entertain a large crowd of out
o'f town delegate's to the conven-
tion of the W0111ens' Home and
Foreign : Missionary societies of
this district which will convene
in this city the latter part of the
week. .

Eva Cooper was down from
Lincoln over last Sabbath visiting
her parents and was accompan-
ed by her friend , Miss Killian of
'Vahoo.
Marshal Todd will look after
the collection of delinquent per-
sonal taxes in the west end , he
having been appointed a deputy
by Treasurer Zook. '
Frank Larimore and family
of Nemaha has taken charge of
the Sarber restaurant. Mr. Sar-
ber and family mo'.ed into the
Carpenter cottage 011 Second
street.
George Hansell ! was up from
Falls City the first of the week'
looking after the delinquent per-
sonal taxes of which he says
there is considerable against the
west end.
Prof. Arthur McMurray of
Chicago was -in the city ' over Sun-
day the guest of relatives. He
is engaged in a lecture tour for
the Ott school of oratory , of the
above city.
A splendid meeting was the
verdict of all who attended the
B. Y. P. ' U . of the district which
was held last week at the Baptist
church in our city. Some thirty
delegates from abroad enjoyed
the program and the hospitality
of Humboldt homes , and the clos-
ing evening's musical program
-rendered on Friday evening. by

The city election passed off
without unusual incident and the
result was more or less of a sur-
prise to all forecasters. The en-
tire temperance ticket was suc-
cessful with the exception of Fred
Butterfield for first ward council- F ;

man and L.C. Edwards for clerk. '
The telephone scrap cut more or
less figure in the contest and is . +
likely responsible for the election
of a license councilman in the
strong temperance ward and a '
temperance councilman in the .
ward where he other side is
usually successful. ; . .
