To he editor of The : Tribune : : -Stung to the quick by he sev- eral defeats in quick succession aclimnistered by thc regular republicans - publicans of the city and county , and by the editorials of the " rribunc , " thc 1\'Iurtins have emerged from their hole , and publish a "more holy than thou" tirade in their paper last weelt. About eighteen hundred republican - lican voters in this county last fall refused to follow the leader- ship of the prominent democrat of California , ( whose mouthpiece the , Martins arc ) and voted for C. F. Reavis for District Judge. There voters could see that it was democratic money , democratic ad- vice , and to the interests of the democratic party to defeat 1\'lr. Reavis. There were probably about - bout four hundred republicans in this county , who , from either , prejudice , or a misconception of their duty , voted against Mr. Reavis , but things have happened this spring that show that the majority of these last mentioned voters , now see the democratic mask of l\Iartins and are anxious to repudiate them. About two weeks prior to the 1st of January last , the Martins and their dupes in this city , planned a coupe on the regular republic ns. They would call a meeting for the organizafion ot a Roosevelt club on one days notice , and having two weeks' prepar- ation , get out their entire strength , and secure control of the club , and thus make some be- lie'e they were "it" and use it surreptitiouly for the benefit of the democrats this fall. But be- hold , the old court room filled up too full for them , and they were so badly turned in its organiz- ation , that they could not le og- niz tlt'ir offspring and declined to sign the roll of members. In this they were consistent. This should have been a lesson to them to be good" but no , their demo- cratic manager spurred them on- ward in the hopes of some possi- ble injury to the republican party. The Martins went into the caucuses in this city and county to elect delegates to the county convention , with banners flying and everyone of them at' their - - - - - - - Bargains in Fruit Trees You can get 6 first class Kief- fer Pear tree for Sl ; one dozen of the finest budded peach trees for $1.50 ; one dozen 3-foot Scotch Pine trees for 82.50. In the third ward of this city , their favorite for county attQrney was turned down by a vote of forty to sixteen. It was simply enough to know that the Martins and the democrats - crats were behind him to secure his overwhelming defeat. The four-hundred followers of Martin , before mentioned arc getting on to them. They see that the Martins arc endeavoring to lead them into democratic ranks , by making them dissatisfied with the methods of the regular repub- licans. That the Martins arc simply a blind behind which prominent democrats hide , and they refuse to follow such leader- ship , and it will not be long be- fore the few remaining republican - can followers that still cling to the Martins will see to where they are drifting under such lead- ership and will return to the fold to Staulcl shoulder to shoulder with the regular republicans to fight the democrats under whatever disguise they appear.
