If wc expect ourchi1drcn to live l
thc bcautiful , and lovc thc beautiful -
tiful , we must surround them with
beautiful influences in the home
and school. A child is educated
by every influence with which he
comes in contact , is being clanged -
cd for better or for worse every
moment of his life I pity thc
man who has no pleasant recol-
lections of his school days , hut
how can hc have such happy
memories if his school life is associated -
sociated in his mind with a tunable -
blc down building , a barren
school room and constat contention -
tion to prcscnc the school play-
grounds from the cncroach11lcn
of animals ; and tramps.-Supt. C.

Last spring on a number of
school grounds , trees were planted -
cd and efforts made t'o beautify
the grounds in many respccts.
School boards should require
teachers to exercise slrecial care
in protecting these trees and
shrubs. Let thc teacher appeal
to thc pride of thc pupils and ask
their assistance in protecting
these. This same rule should he
applied to thc care of the text
books and all school property.
The boy or thc girl who wilfully
injures or destroys school books
or other school Property should
bc made to pay for the samc. 'rhc
members of the school board , together -
g-ethcr with the teacher arc thc
proper parties to make and enforce -
force this rulc. Pupils must not
learn destructive and wasteful
habits. Inspection of school
property should bc made from
time to time , and pupils made to
feel their personal responsibility
for thc Property trusted to
