The Burlington has purchased
an option on the Maurer springs
near Red Cloud and may devel
op that as a source of water sup
ply for their round house etc
at that place
The Burlington grade at Beav
er City was slightly undermined
by a heavy rain Wednesday last
but Foreman Mason and force
soon had the gap filled so that
tfle traffic was not delayed

their return east from a trip to

TO SUPPLY DRINKING CUPS
Burlington to Install Sanitary
Drinking Cups on All Trains
Chicago 111 July 7 Railroads
throughout the country are
speedily complying with the new
sanitary regulations made com
pulsory by a number of the leg
islatures
The Burlington system has tak
en the lead in the installation of
individual drinking cups on all
its lines north and west Though
the new law affects the Burling
ton only in Illinois and Kansas
the officials deeieled to supply all
its patrons in every state with
the new individual cups
Special automatic devices have
been installed so that every car
will be furnished with an appar
atus to suppty travelers with the
indivielual cups The individual
paper drinking cup is made of
pure cellulose It folds flat and
can be carried in pocket purse or
satchel

tem has personally directed the
installation of the automatic de
vices He said For some time
Wisconsin has had the ban on the
so called death cup it
customary on trains
through the stale of Wisconsin to
have the porter remove the drink
ing cups at the northern or the
southern boundary of the state
and replace them after the train
had traversed the other boundary
line
The Burlington system seeing
the wisdom of such a measure
determined not -only to eomply
with the law with reference to
these individual stages but o ex
tend its application everywhere
on the system The individual

Pay Twice a Month
The Burlington roael is now
paying its employes in Missouri
every two weeks instead of
monthly as heretofore This
step was taken to comply with
the Missouri law compelling all
employes to pay their help at
least every two weeks If the
plan works satisfactorily in Mis
souri it may it is saiel be adopt
ed in Illinois and other states

The railroad company has con
nected with the city water mains
and all trains will in future be
watered from the city mains
which will furnish the offices and
shops with drinking water also
The soda ash in the company
water was all right for the in
nards of the locomotives but
not desirable for human uses

month of June between here anel
Chicago The four passenger and
mail trains ran 60000 miles dur
ing the month anel lost a total of
only thirty four minutes in that
time
The Chicago Omaha Limited
was late a total of but sixteen
minutes for the month or an av
erage of one half minute for each
day The
Express was late at Omaha a
total of eighteen minutes for the
month or an average of six
tenths of a minute each elay Fast
Mail No 15 scheduled at forty
five miles an hour reached Oma
ha every elay on time The oth
er Burlington Fast Mail No 7
reached Omaha every elav on
time
Fast Mail No 7 has not been
late at the Missouri river a sin
gle day during the months of Ap
ril May anel June It run ap
proximately 45500 miles in that
period without loss of time at
Missouri river During June this
train was helel on four occasions
in Chicago for the eastern mail
and yet reached Missouri river a
time

in America was shown by the
Maryland Tuberculosis Commis
sion in January 1904 In 1906
there were four such exhibits To
day practically all of the larger
cities of the country have such
displays and in twenty five stat
es comprehensive campaigns have
been carried on with them These
exhibits are visited annually by
millions of people
The American Tuberculosis Ex
hibition of the National Associa
tion is completing six years of
continuous service eluring which
time it has been shown under
three flags in the United States
Mexico and Canada anel has been
displayed in 21 states inclueling
every Southern state east of the
Mississippi except West Virginia
Maryland and Delaware The
Western Tuberculosis Exhibit of
the National association just clos
ing its season in Butte Montana
has been shown in Illinois Kan
sas Nebraska Missouri Arkansas
Oklahoma Colorado Utah Idaho
and Montana
As a result of the general ed
ucational campaign through the
various exhibitions on tuberculos
is millions of pieces of literature
have been distributed millions of
people shown how to prevent con
sumption and several states anel
cities have been aroused to take
legislative action against this dis

to be reported considerably above
the expectation of a week or ten
