McCOOK GREETS BOARD OF
Public Lands and Buildings on Monday Afternoon
and Evening
REPRESENTATIVES OF TEN TOWNS UNITE WITH
Us In Entertaining Members of the Board and Urging Un
selfishly the Claims and Advantages of the Metro
polis of the Real Southwestern Nebraska
The Tribune indulges in no idle flal
tery when it states that the gather
ing of citizens of Southwestern Ne
braska which greeted the members of
the State Board of Public Lands and
Buildings Monday afternoon and eve
ning upon their appearance in this
city to look over McCooks locations
and to hear McCooks plea for the
location of the school at this place
was the largest assemblage of rep
resentative citizens ever seen in this
city or in any other city of this
part of Nebraska upon a similar bus
iness occasion
Ten counties of Southwestern Ne
braska were here represented and
by leading men in all walks of life
in the professions in business by
farmers and others It Indicated in
absolutely unmistakable terms that
McCook is the popular location of
typical and real Southwestern Ne
braska for this school and leading
prominent citizens came heie many
miles in some instances to show the
members of the state board their
deep earnestness in this matter a
fact which was the more impressively
drove to Culbertson where they were
shown ever that towns offerings
Several cars from McCook soon fol
lowed the Culbertson party to thaz
town and -a ere in readiness to brin
the membeis of the board buck to
this city when their mission Cul
bertson was finished
Upon the return cf the ooard to
McCook they immediately drove
around to the diffreent proposed loca
tions about the city embracing up
land bottom land and irrigated land
Their itinerary about McCook in
cluded a drive htrough the Morlan
farm souhtwest of McCook and it
was the consensus of utterances of
the board that this splendid farm
and orchard cannot be excelled in the
state
Returning to the city shortly be
fore eight oclock after removing the
evidences of their many miles of
auto travel the members of the board
and the numerous guests of the citi
zens of MUJck repaired to the ban
quet rooa1 in the Masonic Temple
building -where they partook of an
excellent banquet served with every
shown by their warm and earnest and tasteful accessory by the ladies of
intelligent utterances before the
board on this subject which has mov
ed fall Southwestern Nebraska to a
depth rarely reached on any proposi
tion
The board arrived here on No 1
Monday arternoont They were met
at the depot by numerous delegations
from McCook and from Culbertson
The members of the board electei to
go first and at once to Culbertson to
look over their proposition Culbert
son people were present with auto
mobiles and the members at once
the Order of the Eastern Star

Mothers Day Proclamation
Office of the Mayor City of Mc
Cook Nebraska To the People of
McCook
The Governor of Nebraska having
proclaimed that Sunday May 14th
be observed by the people of this
state as Mohters Day every man
to wear on that day a flower in hon
or of his mother I have been re
quested to ask for general compliance
with this proclamation Therefore
in pursuance of this proclamation
and as Mayor of the City of MaCook
I hereby recommend that by gneeral
consent Sunday May 14 1911 be set
apart as Mothers Day and that on
that day every man and every boy in
the city of McCook and every visit
or within the gates wear a flower in
honor of his mother also let this be
a day for writing letters to our moth
ers
It is eminently fitting that in this
as in other matters of Southwestern
Nebraska McCook should be first and
foremost in promoting this Mothers
Day Spirit
