The first game of football for this
season was playcl on the East Ward
grounds last Saturday afternoon
with a final score of 0 to 0 The
Oxford team was considerably heav
ier than McCook by at least ten
pounds to the man The McCook
team this year is an entirely new
team only two members having play
ed last year
The game was free from rough
play on both sides Oxford could on
ly gain on the old cris cross and tlfe
quarterback run Only one forward
pass was worked successfully by Ox
ford while McCook pulled off three
to advantage McCook gained at will
through the line of Oxford On ac- j
count of the very hot weather both
teams agreed to shorten quarters this
undoubtedly kept McCook from scor
ing McCook held Oxford for downs
repeatedly Oxford played much slow
er than McCook The whole McCook
game and every man was in the game
from start to finish McCook made
consistent gaiiis by line plunges skin
tackle plays and worked a delaj ed
halfback plunge for good gain
Saturday McCcok goes to Trenton
to play and a week from Saturday to
Oxford for the return game
