September 6th and 12th were read
and on motion approved
F S Lofton asked consent of the
board to have the record show as fol
lows
That while I was unavoidably de
tained from attending the session of
the board of September 12th I am
heartily in favor of the action taken
by the board in regard to the special
tax levy and the creation of a poor
farm
The petition of H Harsch John
Fritz and others asking for the es
tablishment of a public road on the
township line between Indianola and
Missouri Ridge precincts was read
and considered On motion the board
postponed decision in the matter un
till they have viewed the road
The claim of L B McMahan for
1053 for tax refund on ne of 10-2-26
claiming interest on 1896 taxes
was on motion rejected
On motion the county treasurer
was instructed to refund to Ernest
Kennedy the sum of 200 being the
amount of 1908 poll tax illegally as
sessed against him at Indianola and
paid by him under protest for the
reason that he was not of age at that
time
The following claims were audited
and allowed and the clerk was in
structed to draw warrants on the
respective funds in payment thereof

The case of Crippen has attracted
worldwide attention and his trial prom
ises to be a hard fought one and furnish
many more sensations Scotland Yard
of course is not giving out Its evi
dence but it Imis been widely reported
that finger prints will play an impor
tant part in securing the doctors con
viction For that reason much inter
est is being taken in this system of

Londoners are having an excellent op
portunity to study the system at an
exposition there Scotland Yard being
among the exhibitors Its display in
cludes a case of miscellaneous articles
bearing finger prints Among those
shown which have led to the detec
tion of rfotnble criminals is a cash box
with a blurred thumb impression found
in the bedroom of a man and his wife
who were murdered a few years ago
in London This print led to the iden
tification of one of the men who was
charged with another and found
guilty of the murder A champagne
bottle bears two finger prints left by
a burglar after entering a house In
Birmingham In this case an officer
took the bottle te Scotland Yard and
within a few minutes typical prints
were found in the finger print records
The impression on a candle shown
in the exhibit was left by a burglar
and was the clew that led to his ar
rest The system was not adopted by
Scotland Yard until 1901 since which
time It has resulted in some 44000
identifications being made and so far
as is known without error
