to a switch engine receiving a new

The retrenchment order did not effect
McCook very seriously as all depart
ments in the shops were already down
to pretty nearly bed rock A few in
each department were let out in the
cut but good service limited the num
ber
Dispatcher T B Campbell writes
from Long Beach Calif that his
brother Joseph is slowly on the mend
and that he and Mrs Campbell leave
today for McCook stopping briefly
in Salt Lake City and Denver en
route

homefolks Floyd will return to his work

Word from Denver midweek an
nounced that another operation had
been found necessary in the case of
little Esther Boyle from which oper
ation she was recovering nicely The
little one is having a serious time
with an ear trouble resulting from
a recent attack of scarlet fever
M L Ruby was called Tuesday
night to Plattsmouth by the death
of a brother who met with foul play
and was afterwards found in the
Nemaha river This is the first
death in a family of six boys he
being the youngest one44 years old
This is sad he leaving four small
children orphans He was on his
way home from Wichita Kansas
Ira Peterson our old townsman and
ex county sheriff is back on a visit
from Elberta Utah and has won
derful stories to tell about fairy
land where money grows on trees
etc Ira says they are more than
pleased with their new home among
the mountains that the country is
a veritable treasure house of the
gods Should any of his old friends
desire to see him and learn about the
country they should call on him at
the Commercial hotel or what is bet
ter get ready and go with him next
