The incorporation of an aerial nav

vealed plans for a commercial passcu
ger airship that rivals the wildest
dreams of Jules Verne Officials or
the company declare that within n
year they will have a ship that will
carry up a hundred passengers in n
forty mile wind and at a speed of 100
miles an hour
The machine is the invention of 1
W Oman formerly of San Antonio
Tex but at present at St Louis On
is in process of construction in t bi
shops of the inventor at St Louis The
inventor claims that his ship can start
either from the land or water De de
clares it will ascend straight into tin
air or can be launched In the manner
of an aeroplane
May Bo Built In Any Size
The new airship is called a gyro
plane so named from the f t that ii is
a combination of gjro the heli
copter and the aeroi iie Its pro
moters saj it can be built in any size
from a two man runabout or a seven
passenger tourinr t to a monster of
the air that will fifty or a hun
dred passengers
A thirty or forty mile breeze would
be a help rather than a hindrance to
our machine said the inventor the
other day We will maintain abso
lute equilibrium iu anything short of
a cyclone The usual obstacles that
prevent the flight of an ordinary air
ship will be as nothing to this machine
of ours
It is planned to construct machines
that will maiutain a regular service
between cities and states and even
countries
Carries Four Huge Propellers
The gyroscope and the helicopter are
familiar principles in heavier than air
navigation but never before have they
been applied in the manner employed
by Oman The model of his ship is
fitted with four husre propellers twelve
feet in diameter which may be used
iu turn for drawing the machine from
the ground or carrying it through the
air
The machine has been inspected by
government engineers and pronounced
superior to all others it is declared
Ten patents have been granted cover
ing almost every feature of the ma
chine The machine is to be construct
ed entirely of aluminium and
and besides carrying four propel
lers is fitted with two engines
The inventor asserts the machine
can be made to stand still at one spot
in the air for an indefinite time We
could drop a thousand bombs on a war
ship from a height of two miles with
out moving a foot he declared Oman
has studied aerial navigation twenty
years

Luther W Charlton of Washington
has invented an envelope that canuot
be opened without detection A spoon
shaped tongue is cut In the flap of the
ordinary envelope to which it remains
attached by a slender stem The un
der flap of the envelope has two folds
on the inside under which the shoul
ders of the spoon shaped tongue rest
when the envetope is closed and sealed

added to the steam and heating plant
and other repairs and improvements
made to the plant

lock last Friday night on a trip to
see the new big shops
The company is putting down four
new drive wells at their point here
using twelve inch pipes They al
ready have seven down
A broken wheel on a freight car at
Eckley was the cause of No 6s de
lay first of the week Traffic was
delayed some six or eight hours
A boilermakers foreman from the
Santa Fe looked over the works
Tuesday Wednesday and- compliment
ed Mac on the excellent condition of
his power
The McCook division uses 11 G en
gines in its business and is keep
ing most of them busy these days
164S cars were handled on the divi
sion Tuesday
The bridge near the Harman farm
west of the city caught fire recently
but C H got word to the section
men and the flames were extinguish
ed without much damage to the struc
ture
The new block against work trains
is a sure enough block but costly as
to operation More rest than work

Hill Too many work train ac
cidents recently
One of the large locomotives ran
off the turntable at Brush Thursday
night and the wrecker was kept
busy Friday getting it back onto the
rail Meanwhile they were pretty
badly tied up being unable to get en
gines in or out of the round house
The wrecker which had been assist
ing in some bridge work near Denver
was on the west end when the acci
dent occurred and was early on the
scene

his younger brother Daniel Willetts
of Glassport Pa at Youngstown O
July 29 The brother was an engin
eer on the P L E He was oil
ing his engine in the yard at Youngs
town when he was struck by an
other engine This was the first trip
the engineer made after the death of
the mother July 20th A host of
friends sympathize with George in
this dual bereavement
