Red Willow county will bo held on Wednesday July 20th that date being decided upon we under stand at a meeting of the central committee held in this city some time last week We have been personally acquaint ed with Mr Harmon since he was a small boy and know him to be an honorable young man and one who would be alert to the interests of his constituents at all times and if we are to have a Democrat to rep resent this district in congress Ave know of no one in that party better fitted and more trustworthy than Mr Harmon Hayes Center Republican What do you know of the above from the standpat regular Republi can organ of the State of Hayes President Woodrow of Princeton in an address on Citizenship and the Educated Man recently said Every educated man should be in dependent It should be every mans pride to be no mans man I think the total number of voters in this country is about 15000000 How many of the voters govern the coun try Not more than one fifteenth about 1000000 the purpone of adopting a plat form and selecting a state central eonnnittea and for the- transaction of such other busim feii as may proper ly come before the convention The convention shall be made up of delegates chosen by the republi cans of the respective counties of the state at the regular delegate ee miy eoiuention in the manner provided by law on tin basis of one delegate for each 150 votes or tiie major frac tion thereof cast at the 1908 elec tion for O C Bell republican nomi nee for presidental elector Said ap portionment entitles Red Willow county to eight delegates It is further recommended that no proxies be allowed and that the dele gates present from each of the respec tive counties be authorized to have the full vote of their delegation In accordance with the rules of the republican state committee cre dentials of delegates to the conven tion should be filed with the secre tary of the state committee at least five days before the date of said con vention The members of the county cen tral committee for each county who are to conduct the 1910 campaign must be chosen at the delegate coun ty convention which elects delegates to said state convention and reported at once to the state committee Signed Myron L Learned Vice Chairman Signed Clyde Barnard Secretary Dated at Lincoln Neb June 16 1910 By Their Fruits Ye Shall Know Them Mr W E Andrews has not enter ed into any arrangements with any parties in Nebraska or elsewhere for the purpose of seeking the governor ship He has never received any sugges tion from the president either direct ly or indirectly concerning the Ne braska campaign for this or any fu ture year When questioned directly concern ing a prospective candidacy he said While I was in the state during my recent vacation national and state affairs were frequently reviewed in conversations with my personal ac quaintances and party friends Some of them suggested that I should en ter the race While I have not de clined to give their suggestions due consideration I have invariably ex pressed a decided preference to as sist someone else as the Republican candidate for governor All political parties have a splen did opportunity this year to render excellent service in the moral pro gress of our state and I sincerely hope that it will be utilized wisely and efficiently Of course I am in favor of county option and you may rest assured that I will be glad to do my part when the time comes This question is before us and de mands solution Why not dispose of it now and have it out of the way when the presidential campaign com 3 two years hence The accredited representatives of the Republican party will in due time arrange as to platform and candidat es Their thoughts and actions will formulate the policies and there will be no necessity fdr their going to Washington or elsewhere to find out what should be done Of course I have been absent from my home in Hastings most of the time for several years because my official duties have required my presence at my office in Washington 1 have always taken it for granted that a public official should spend at least a part of his time at his office in the transaction of public business The records of the national ad ministration and the present con gress present to the country some very commendable legislation enact ed in harmony with the Republican national platform of 190S That work has been performed by the Republi can party as a party without regard to any factional divisions or differ ences of opinions We can well af ford to go into our Nebraska cam paign this year with the understand ing that we will take from the po litical teachings of LaFollette Cum mins and Dolliver all that is good and serviceable for our state and that we will do likewise with respect to the political teachings of all other distinguished senators and members of Congress Are we not large enough and wise enough to sift the wheat from the chaff Prove All Things and hold fast only that which is good There are many good things to talk about as we seek the financial intellectual political and moral progress of our state Who can and will serve best By their fruits you shall know them 4e Call for Republican County Con vention The Republicans of Red Willow county Nebraska are hereby called to meet in convention in the dis trict court room in the city Secretary The Oregon Plan briefly stated is that candidates for the legislature sign one of two statements State ment No 1 is to the effect that the candidate will vote for that candi date for United States senator who has received the largest number of the peoples votes at the general election next preceeding the election of a senator in congress without re gard to my individual perference Statement No 2 is to the effect that the candidate will consider the vote of the people for United States sen ator as nothing more than a recom mendation which I shall be at liberty to wholly disregard if the reason for doing so seems to me to be sufficient Republicans are showing a disposition to ignore or avade it The Oregon plan merely means that the people j may elect theirU nited
