Leonora May Alexander
Leonora May Lewis was born near
Astoria Illinois on the 13th day of
January 1876and departed this life
on May 20 1910 at her home a
on May 2G 1910 at her home on
the Albert Finnel place ten miles
from Stockville aged 34 years 4
months and 13 days On the 10th
day of September 1891 she was
united in marriage with Joseph B
Alexander att Stockville Mrs Alex
ander was a devoted wife and loving
mother and leaves to mourn her
loss her husband and six daughters
the youngest of them five years old
also a host of friends and relatives
The funeral was conducted by Rev
Russell an intimate friend of the
family assisted by Rev F C Tyler
pastor of Box Elder M E church
She was buried from Zion Hill churcl
and the tired body laid to rest in
Zion Hill cemetery there to await
the resurrection
None knew her but ot love her
None knew her but to praise

A STORY OF FORREST
The Actors Encounter With an Im
pertinent Critic
Many years ago Edwin Forrest the
celebrated actor when In New York
was in the habit of dining at Win
dusts a noted restaurant on Park
row that was a favorite resort of ac
tors and literary men It usually hap
pened that Forrest would be Joined by
friends and that the little group would
sit together at one table On one occa
sion it chanced that an Englishman
with a reputation for conceit and Im
pertinence who had scraped acquaint
ance with the tragedian was one of
tlio group
Early In the course of the dinner the
Englishman began to make criticisms
which he considered pleasantries about
Forrests conception of certain roles
Encouraged by his own appreciation
he gave full play to his humor and
concluded each of his impertinences
with Pardon my freedom sir its my
way
To the astonishment of all who know
Forrests irascible disposition be bore
the Britons offensive remarks patient
ly and seemingly Ignored them as far
as possible When however the nuts
were brought In by the waiter he
took several cracked walnuts in his
hand and walking over to the Britons
place jocularly snapped them suc
cessively In the face of that Individual

SPEED OF WAVES
Over Seventy eight Miles an Hour Has
Been Recorded
Interesting facts about waves were
given by Dr Vaughan Cornish in oue
of his lectures In the north Atlantic i
he said waves had been measured the
largest of which was somewhat more
than forty feet high with a length
from crest to crest of BG0 feet It was
in the southern Indian ocean that
waves attained their fullest develop
ment and they had been measured
there with a length of 7S0 feet
In the Atlantic it had been found
that waves attained a speed of thirty
eight miles an hour In a wind of about
forty four miles an hour Speaking of
the swells in the waves that run free
ly on the surface of the sea after the
wind has ceased Dr Cornish said that
during a storm in December 1S08 he
recorded breakers near Bournemouth
which moved at sixty seven miles an
hour and had a length from crest to
crest of 1000 feet In February IS
he observed breakers on the same
shore which had a speed in deep wa
ter of not less than seventy eight and

fore concerning them is that they shall
pay either of them a fine of 20 shil
