The Taking of the Census
It is of importance to the citizens of McCook that the taking
of the census which begins tomorrow and will continue for fifteen
days shall be comprehensive and complete that the enumeration
shall cover the fullest possible number of our citizens To this end
every effort should be made every courtesy should be extended to
Enumerators Elmer Kay and Claude Evans who will represent the
general government in this vast and important enterprise In a
of McCook to see that the census
large measure it is up to the people
sus of this city which will be the official government record for the
ensuing ten years shall fairly represent us Give every assistance
you can willingly and freely
A Possible State Gathering for McCook
Tribune readers will be interested to know that McCook
stands an even chance to be designated as the place for holding the
1
Nebraska Hich School Declamatory Union s meeting tnis year
which is calendared for early May The commercial club has made
it possible to offer the union inducements to bring the meet here
and The Tribune hopes to be able soon to announce the fact
Having one of the contestants in the dramatic class in our own city
the people of McCook will doubtless be more than ordinarily inter
ested in this event should the meet come here
Anent Proposed Joint County Bridge
The question of the advisability of the proposed joint connty
river bridge between Hitchcock and Red Willow counties has been
raised The action of our county commissioners on this point can
be read elsewhere in this issue Also we in another column indic
ate the action of the commercial club which has named a commit
tee to investigate the matter and report There is a question as to
the wisdom of this proposed expenditure in the minds ot some
Plea For the Better Things
We hope the people of McCook at least that portion of the
citizens who are interested in better things in entertainment lines
will not forget tire consideration of a lecture course for another
year Some of the countrys best talent is to be found on the lect
ure bureau platforms Let McCook be in on this The sale of
season tickets in numbers largely exceeding last years sale is one
of the prime requisites in securing a course for next year
Not a Dead Issue by Any Means
The initiative and referendum is by no means a dead issue in
McCook or in Red Willow county When the law becomes better
understood and the people appreciate its merits and who oppose
it and why it is fought they will easily exceed the promising show
ing made at the last city election when the initiative and referen
dum proposition was easily overshadowed by other and local issues
The commercial club has again approached the rest room ques
tion and this time with fair prospects of successful issue The base
ment of the Commercial hotel is available -Let the business men
and other citizens interested now respond to the committees appeal
for funds and this long desired public benefit will be achieved
The entire state of Nebraska has a large part in the blessing
which is continued to Lincoln by the result of Mondays election
Lincoln dry by 935 majority means great possibilities for next fall
for Nebraska
