Dr John Merritte Driver
November 19th
Dr Driver was the popular successor of Dr H V
Thomas and Dr Frank Crane at the famous Peoples church
of Chicago preaching in McVicars theatre every Sunday
morning during his pastorate The doctor has been on the
lecture platform for a number of years now and has been one
of the most successful men of the lyceum field On his first
season of 168 dates over 100 towns returned him the next
year This is a record made by very few lecturers McCook
audiences will seldom have the opportunity of hearing his
equal
Adrian M Newens December 13
Mr Newens is staff critic for the Redpath Slayton Lyc
eum Bureau He was called to this responsible position be
cause of his peculiar fitness for the place both in tempera
mental and artistic qualifications His chief work is to train
build up criticise concert companies and programs and thus
make more successful already successful talent
Mr Newens while presented as a monologist is all that
and more His entertaining purpose programs are truly en
tertainments with GREAT PURPOSE He impersonates
and yet he does not He presents his characters of real men
and women without costumes or make up accessories Prob
ably the strongest point in his work is the MESSAGE he
brings to his audience in every program His entertainment
is the sermon without the pieicher the lecture without the
lecrurer the drama enacted without the actors and the stage
properties
Thomas E Greene Jany 2610
Dr Green is one of the highest priced lecturers on the
American platform a perfect whirlwind of logic oratory and
power He is one of the strongest return date men on the
lyceum platform It is impossible in a few words like these
to get him before the people in his true light and strength
He always pleases His power over an audience is unusual
His descriptive ability is little short of marvelous Practic
ally all the great lecture courses of the great cities of the Uni
ted States have been enthused by his powerful work We
will say no more about him
The College Singing Girls With
Walter Eccles flarch 210
The College Girls and Walter Eccles have proved to be
one of the greatest successes of the lyceum The eight yoifng
ladies of the company are unusually talented and versatile
They are PROFESSIONAL SINGERS having good solo
voices which perfectly blend in the concerted work They
are of attractive appearance and whether seen on or off the
concert program it is readily apparent that they are young
women of culture and refinement The concert is given with
all the dash and enthsiasm characteristic of college life The
program is replete with bright and amusing novelties includ
ing songs with action Special costumes have been provided
for each feature However the great success has been due
to the ability of the members to properly render the best sac
red and operatic numbers written for womeirs voices
Walter Eccles himself stands in the front rank of enter
tainers His work alone would make up a magnificent pro
gram

The Republican Ticket
The republicans of Red Willow coun
ty have no apologies to offer in behalf of
any of their candidates AH of them
have lived in the county for many years
and most of them have served the coun
ty with marked ability in one capacity
or another The democrats instead of
relying upon the qualifications of their
own candidates are attempting to in
fluence public opinion by the villifica
tion of some of the republican candi
dates Whatever the short comings of
the democratic candidates may be the
republican candidates do not ask for
support at the polls because thereof
but because the republican candidates
are men of ability and honor In other
words the republicans come before the
voters of the county with a ticket made
up of candidates who will make efficient
officers Most of them have been tried
and their qualifications for the offices to
which they seek election have been de
termined We know the business of the
county will be well done by them be
cause they know how have had experi
ence If a farmer is looking for a hand
he will select if he can find him a man
who has experience and is familiar with
farm work If a merchant wants a
clerk he will seek one who has had ex
perience as a clerk The county officers
conduct the business affairs of the coun
ty The countys business is both in
trical to and important and can be looked
after better and more economically by
men who have had experience and know
how it should be looked after than by
men who have had no experience and
have always followed other vocations
The voters are not interested in the
candidates as men but are interested
in seeing that the countys business
which is their business shall be proper
ly and economically conducted Does
it not stand to reason it is a good
business propo3ition that Naden Skalla
Peterson Moore and Premer men who
have had nxperienco and demonstrated
their ability should be retained in the
countys service to look after the coun
tys business
The office of county superintendent is
more important than is usually consid
ed It should be filled by a person with
wide experience in ail branches of
school work a successful teacher
Miss Bettcher fills every requirement
foi this office and is entitled to an en
thusiastic vote at the coming election
