The board of county commissioners met pur
suant to adjournment Present P S Lofton S

The petition of A Peters and others asking
for the establishment of a public road was read
and considered and on motion laid over until
the next meeting
The petition of W H Hartman and others
asking for the establishment of a public road
was read and considered and on motion laid
over until the next meeting
The petition of I H Wasson and others
asking for the establishment of a public road
was read and considered The Board finds
that all the owners of land along the proposed
lino of road have given their consent thereto in
writing and that the public good requires it on
motion saim was granted establishing a public
road as follows
Commencing at the Southwest cor of section
19-2-30 and running thence north 210 rods to the
northwest corner of the Southwest quarter of
the Northwest quarter of section 19-2-30 and
terminating thereat said road to be known as
Road No 42G and the Clerk was instructed to
notify the Overseer of Highways to open said
road
On motion the Board adjourned to meet De
cember 23rd lOT

The minutes of the meetings held in Novem
ber were read and on motion approved
The petition of H Winans and others asking
for the establishment of a public road was read
and considered The Board finds that all the
owners of land along the line of the proposed
road have given their consent thereto in writ
ing and that the public good requires -it on
motion same was granted establishing a public
road as follows
Commencing at the Southwest corner of sec
tion 35 township 2 range 30 and running thence
west one mile on section line between section
36-2-30 and section 1-1-30 and terminating at the
Southwest corner of section 36-2-30 said road to
bo known as Road No 427 and the Clerk was
icstructed to notify the Overseer of Highways
to open said road

on motion approved and ordered placed onflle
It appearing to the Board that the assessment
on the East half of the Northeast quarter of
section 8-1-27 Beaver was an error the assess
ment in 1901 being 1G0000 when it should le
been 50000 and H W Parker having paid in
the four years of 1904 1905 190S and 1907 the
sum of 4160 under protest when he should
have paid only 1300 on motion ithe Treasurer
was instructed to refund to H W Parker the
sum of 2860 as tho amount illegally assessed
against said 80 acres in the four years
On motion the Treasurer was instructed tore
fund to the following named persons the
amount of polltax illegally assessed against
them in 190S for the reason that they are over
50 years of age and exempt from polltax

Tho claim for refund of 1597 of J H Ajer
claiming that ho has been illegally assessed in
1908 on a note of 100000 owned by him was on
motion rejected as that note should be assessed
under the law
The claim of James Rooney for refund of
taxes on a part of tho propertjowned by him in
Block 30 original McCook claiming that tho
valuation on same is unjust was on motion
rejected
The following claims wore ordered paid out
of the respective Road District Funds by the
Overseers

lowed and tho Clerk was instructed to draw

ERMANY for many years has
been the land of Christmas nov
elties and each year the kai
sers ingenious toy candy and
cake makers devise some oddity which
proves irresistible in luring small or
great sums from the pockets of Yule
tide shoppers One of the latest ma
nias is for quaint and humorous Christ
mas cakes which are literally cartoons
in sugar and dough The cakes are
decorated with all sorts of funny fig
ures made of colored sugar and in
many instances are not the crude art

for example is a fair type of the liv
ing original as he is pictured in the
German comic weeklies A Munich
waitress carrying a well grouped

cidedly lifelike while the saluting sol
dier by his very attitude suggests that
foam capped steins and sentry duty do
not assimilate very well
The German authorities have done
much to encourage the toymaking in
dustry particularly by collecting toys
from all the world that the toymakers
might acquaint themselves with the
wants and peculiarities of foreign
markets The wooden animals of the
past have been eclipsed by the me
chanical toys A submarine boat
which sinks into the water and rises
again all with one charge of soda
powder a diver which goes to the
bottom and bobs up serenely when
air Is blown into him through a little
tube a Santos Dumont airship which
