IF i P I Y i J i if X i h TWENTY SEVENTH YEAR ARRESTED FOR ILLEGAL SELLING Keepers of Three Houses of Prostitu tion Held to the Next Term of District Court R Last Saturday night thrco houses of Hl famo in this city wore raided nnd their owners arrested together with twelve inmates The prisoners were taken before County Judge J C Moore who held them all to appear in county court Tuesday morning at nine oclock A dray load and a half of liquors of various kinds wore seized in the raid and will be used as evidence against the keepers of tho houses Tuesday morning the owners of the houses appeared in county court and through the medium of their attorney waived examination and gavo bonds for their appearance in the nest term of district court the appearance bonds being placed at 500 each which were duly given and approved by the court As these women wore taken with the goods in their possession and as addi tional evidence of a certain and accurate character is at hand there is no doubt of their being made to suffer for their bold and defiant breaking of the law It has been known for some time thac liquors were being openly sold in large quantities in these houses contrary to law but evidonco to convict was lack ing until proper detective service was secured from outside the city The trick was easy the more so as tho wo men thought they were completely protected and made little or no effort to conceal their illegal and unlawful traffic in liquors This liquor traffic too was said to bo very active on Sundays when the saloons of the city are closed and on other days when the law closes the regular drinking places of the city The boldness of wholesale dealers in the city or their confidence in being protect ed in their traffic is noticed in the fact that deliveries of liquors have been made even on Sundays to these houses The three women arrested appear on the court record as Ruth Frost Barry Bell Hall and Minnie Brown and the definite charge against them is keeping and selling beer whiskey and wines un lawfully and wilfully without- license or permit in their several premises While thi3 liquor soiling is but an incident in the terrible business of these places where womanhood is bartered and sold to those whom God Almighty created as the protectors and preservers of virtue and social purity it is to be hoped it may serve to bring to justice and some to adequate punishment those engaged in the awful traffic in human souls The appeal of every pure moth er wife or daughter in McCook is be hind this matter and every manly father husband and son should be hon orable and knightly enough to support the effort Some Domestics Nine quarter wide sheetings at 21c for Rochdale unbleached at 25c for Pepperell nine - quarter half bleached Simpson
