has been built at tho shops of the com

It is expected that the stoker will
make it possible to burn tho cheapest

Like all mechanical stokers the pur

F M Kiumiell McCook Nebnibka
Dear Sir
In regard to ludianolas petition ask
ing for a part of ludianolas School Dis
trict No 2 being transferred of sec
tion saying that this would be giving
away home of their taxable property
Spying that this district should do so
that District No 1 may have better
school accommodations Patrons of
District No 2 stating that patrons in
north end District No 1 may have bet
ter school accommodations by building
another school house in the north end
of Histrict No 1 and further they be
lieve that the petition would meet with
more hearty endorsement if it provided
that District No 1 did not get tho land
unless they build the second school
house in District No 1 Now they ex
pect to give us section of unimproved
land and we build a school house but
in case a second school house should
never be built in north end of District
No 1 District No 2 should be allowed
to keep the land
Now if District No 2 is in sympathy
with these people in the north end of
District Nol which our district joins
why dont they build a second school
house in their own district and take
these families they speak of in Dis
trict No 2 has a high school and could
give their pupils a complete education
which is not the case in District No 1
for we have only a common school
teaching as high as the eighth grade
District No 1 will give them all these
families in the north end of District No
1 and 2 and J section of good improved
land of our territory We do not pro
pose to build a second school house in
District No 1 and cripple our school
having nothing better than an eighth
grade school hire an eighth grade
teacher or build a second school house
Wo have been taxed to build one
school house and having the smallest
district in the county we do not pro
pose being taxed but for one house
There is no law for that
I will speak as a tax payer For my
part I am willing to be taxed to organ
ize a rural high school district at Red
Willow District No 1 We tried five
years ago to do this District No 1
North Star and No 72 tho three coun
try districts had 1200000 more valu
ation than District No 2 Indianola We
could have had a good school The
state superintendent and county super
intendent were highly in favor of it but
our city high school district did not ap
prove of it They think an eighth grade
school is good enough for the farmer
If we want any better they expect us
to pay tuition hire rooms and pay
board or move to town to finish the
education of our children So tbe ma
jority of them graduate in the eighth
grade school and generally have a 16-year-old
school inarm to complete
their education I think the farmer is
entitle to tho very best for ho feeds the
world and ought to be entitled to eat at
the first table
I believe in improving and getting out
of the ruts You will probably discover
by this writing that I am not a polished
scholar and wish for the younger people
to be able to do better Our desire is
for better schools in tho rural districts
Yesyou bet the second school house will
never be built if there is any law to pre
vent it Such is our verdict
