Saturday for a - brief visit returning Monday Stockville Republican Faber W C Stephens and family were re lieved from quarantine Monday after a siege with diphtheria and he returned to work for the company the same day Engineer Caulkins fell out of his engine Sunday and was badly stunned for a little while so that he was not able to take out the grain extra of 32 cars Sunday afternoon Red Cloud C A More than 100 cars of stock passed through Red Cloud on Sunday and four extra trains of cattle cars were sent out to Denver beside the other trains Business was lively Sunday and excitement The depot at Bartley has been quarl antinod on account of small pox and the company is using a temporary structure and extra agent there in the meantime Dwight Johnson and wife of McCook visited at the home of his brother L L Johnson in this city from Friday night until Monday night Republican City Ranger William Hewitt of McCook a former resident of Havelock who has been taking treatment at a local hospital is able to be out again and was on the streets of Havelock Tuesday Have lock cor Lincoln Star The Havelock chapter of the P E O was entertained at the home of Mrs J 12 Hursey of University Place this morning at breakfast in honor of Mrs Hewitt of McCook a former member of the Havelock chapter Havelock cor Lincoln Star Conductor Will Cassell was injured the first of the week His train stopp ed suddenly and he was thrown violent ly against his desk in the way car His injuries are not of a serious nature and he will probably be on duty again in about a week Republican City Ranger The Burlington has commenced lay ing 85 pound open hearth steel on the Omaha Lincoln line replacing the 75 pound steel now in use which will be placed on lines where lighter engines are used than on the Omaha Lincoln line where the heaviest locomotives on the system are used Shortly after the passenger train No 15 left for the west Friday evening the fireman Jno Campbell was stricken with appendicitis The train returned to Red Cloud and the fireman placed under the care of a physician His condition was serious and he may be compelled to undergo an operation Red Cloud Argus A freight car took fire at the depot Sunday and had it not been for the presence of mind of our particular friend John D Crans we doubt if even the track would have been left to tell the tale but John suugested that the goat get it to the water tank quickly which it did and a stream as large as a telephone pole was let loose and the fire was submerged Red Cloud C A For the benefit of the flag station be tween Edison and Holbrook we will state that Beaver City has the best train sprvice of any town in western Nebraska All trains stop here None of them rush through with a haughty wave of the hand from the flagman on the back platform O our train service is all right and we have an awfully nice jail Beaver City Tribune The switch engine and switching crew namely Tony Clark aud Claude Brown enginemen and Messrs Beard and Goth yardmen have been re turned to Red Cloud The freight business became so congested in tin yards that James Q HUT decided that in order to save expenses and keep the freight depot intact hed better have the engine sent back It looks better at any rate Red Cloud C A About five oclock Saturday after noon while making a running switch a loaded freight car took a toboggan slide and crashed on to the platform aud into the west end of our elabor ate depot tearing out the end and landing half of its length into the freight room At five oclock the goat at one end and the section men at the other attempted to pull the car out while Jack Edwards re leased the air Moss Abel seemed to have been Dunn up by the great catastrophe The damage was some thing like 500 or perhaps
