good
The Burlington has nothing
whatever to hide from the public
these days sas a Burlington
man in a position of authority
We are going to make friends
with the people try to give them
good service make an effort to
perform every function that a
well regulated railroad should
perform for its patrons and the
territory it serves We are mak
ing no secret rates giving no
special service to favored patrons
and are trying to obey the law
The service given is service for
the public and the public may
learn what it inquires about
We are not seeking newspaper
notoriety nor newspaper discus
sions but anything about the
operation or management of the
road is open and may be made
public The roads wants to
keep on friendly terms with the
people It wants to serve them
The stand patter has his uses
but can never have the undivided ad
miration of the worlds doers In po
litical economy he represents what the
breeching does in horse millinery but
even that strap has fallen into innoc
uous desuetude in the modern harness

The reception and social at the new Ivl
E parsonage Tuesday evening was a
very pleasant affair The building is
now completed and Rev and Mrs Heg
geman are pleasantly and comfortably
at home to their many friends Rev
Heggeman deserves much praise for the
energy and daily toil he has shown in
the building and management of this
new residence
Mrs Charles McKnight is quite sick
with lung fever
The Free Methodists closed a three
weeks meeting here Sunday night
Thos Saul was here this week on
his return from a viit to New Mexico
and Texas
Mr and Mrs Roy Hoover returned
Wednesday evening on No 5 to their
home in Wauneta after a weeks visit
here v ith relatives and friends
Merl Hodgkin is sick this week
Miss Lilly Fox teacher in the primary
department has been quite sick for
some time We are pleased to learn she
is now much better and expects to soon
be able to resume her place in the school
room
Mr and Mrs Lewis Harte went to
Benkelman last Saturday evening to
attend the wedding of Mr Harts broth
er Elvin to Miss Julia Arbogast at the
residence of the brides parents Mr and
and Mrs G W Arbogast Wednesday

Billy Bush is visiting a sister in Mis

The chairs for the now opera house
have arrived and will soon be put in
place ready for the opening play
Marshall Cox came in from Denver a
few days ago to visit his father General
Reuben Cox and attend the play in the
new opera house in which the Gener

treatment in a hospital in that city

load on hand as soon as conditions of
weather will permit He will have an

Rev J J Loughran late of McCook
is the successor of Father Bernard as
pastor of St Marys congregation The
heartiness of the farewell reception
tendered him on the eve of his depart
ure by his own congregation and the
people of McCook is the best evidence
of his sterling worth In extending a
cordial welcome to Father Loughran we
can sympathize with the people of Mc
Cook but trust the new pastor will find
here a psople if not so demonstrative
